Pros: inexpensive, VERY accurate, lightweight, nice software add-on, surprisingly sturdy Cons: manual?, elevation accuracy, having the palm/visor in the outdoor!
Summary: I received the Magellan GPS Companion for the Palm V as a free bonus when I purchased the Palm at Staples in November of last year. I had wanted a gps device for a while before that for no good reason, other than to be even more of a geek. Now I have...

Pros: NMEA compat, DGPS accuracy, quick sat locks, great pricing, decent free software. Cons: None, as long as it's reasonable limitations are understood.
Summary: Before buying this, you must understand that this is an add-on module, to make visor useful as a gps. It NOT a high-end GPS with "WAAS" accuracy. Remember, you get what you pay for, and with this, you get much more than you pay for. Those claiming "exa ...

Pros: Easy to use, fast satellite acquisition, many useful navigation features, good PDA integration. Cons: No desktop integration or data feed, no multitasking, software has limits, no external antenna option.
Summary: What is GPS?
GPS is short for Global Positioning System. The basic concept is pretty simple: It uses triangulation to calculate your current position displayed as a longitude and latitude. A GPS receiver does it by finding at least 3...

Pros: Super Cheap (esp. with $50 rebate), pretty good accuracy, decent size. Cons: Ties GPS unit w/ less-than-rugged Palm, mediocre mapping software, 10hr battery.
Summary: Put simply, I bought this *toy* as because I could essentially get it for "free". It was on clearence at my local electronics store and coupled with the $50 rebate, the only thing it cost me was $30 the time value of my ~$50 investment.
If you...

Pros: EXTREMELY ACCURATE! BEST GPS BUY FOR THE PRICE especially with Magellan's $50 rebate! Cons: Minor: Altitude variation, non-standard battery insertion, 10 hour battery life (use rechargables)
Summary: Bought visor GPS Companion (with $50 rebate) on 4/16/02. Quickly read simple GPS use instructions and almost immediately had it running and pulling in 7 satellite readings in 3G mode. Entering approximate longitude & latitude seems to reduce satellitte...

Pros: Relatively cheap.Fairly easy to use(once you figure it out).Works as advertised. Cons: Extremely skimpy printed material.Requires Windows OS for online help.
Summary: As the title suggests, I bought this as a "toy". Although I plan to give it a workout (driving) on a couple of business trips this year. It is pretty easy to install. You should go online to make sure you have the latest software. If you have used any of...

Pros: Cheap, includes maps on CD, works with Handspring Visor Cons: poor tech support, CD manual not compatible with Macs, batteries hard to install properly
Summary: I ordered the Magellan GPS companion for my Handspring Visor through the PalmGear web site. I was immediately struck by the difficulty in installing the batteries. In most AA battery devices, there is a spring for the negative (-) side of the battery...

Pros: receiver itself works well Cons: mapping software is totally unacceptable
Summary: The receiver itself works pretty well - gives you the elevation, lat/long, etc with a nice graphical display for the satellites. But the mapping software that comes with it is utterly atrocious. The resolution is low. I could never find the "go to my...
