The 1997 Legacy Wagon is available in six full-time 4 wheel drive models - Brighton, L, 2.5 GT, Outback, the new Outback Limited and LSi. New for 1997, both the 2.2L and 2.5L engines have an increase in horsepower and torque. All Subaru vehicles feature a horizontally opposed boxer engine. The Outback models feature increased ground clearance with heavy duty suspension, raised step roof, two tone paint and cargo area power outlets. The new Outback Limited features leather bucket seats, cold weather package, weather band radio and special Outback Limited badging. The GT has been redesigned and now includes a standard 2-way power moonroof, redesigned front facsia, fog lights and 16-inch alloy wheels.
