Pros: Back seat is almost usable now, well-configured cargo space Cons: TOO big, TOO refined, TOO equipped, TOO pricey The Bottom Line: I'm not crazy about the RAV4. It just strikes me as a vehicle that's refined out the impurities that made it worth knowing...another bland, mediocre SUV.
Cars are like people, they all have their individual quirks and personalities, and sometimes you get along with them, and sometimes you just don't see eye to eye. This past week, I've been driving a 2006 Toyota RAV4, and it's one of those cars that ...

Pros: Reliable car with lots of thoughtful touches. Cons: Back seat doesn't really seat three people. Back door opens from side instead of top. The Bottom Line: I'm glad to be revving up my new Toyota RAV4, but if you have a big family, you might want to keep looking.
This review has been a long time coming. Up until last week, I was driving a very basic 1997 Toyota Corolla. That car served me very well for almost eight years and 120,000 miles, but it was beginning to look like an eyesore. It was time to trade up ...

Pros: V6 and third-row available; roomy; fun to drive with the V6 Cons: Thoroughly typical of the class in four-cylinder, five-passenger form The Bottom Line: A thoroughly competent and pleasant compact SUV, without the V6 and third row too little distinguishes it aside from the Toyota name.
In the past, Toyota has made product decisions that almost make it seem like it doesn't want to do too well. The first Sienna minivan was a half-size smaller than the leaders. The styling of the Highlander and Camry could not be more boring. The Tundra ...

Pros: Power (V6), Handling, Comfort, Safety (with optional side airbags), Mileage Cons: Supply/Demand Pricing, Rear-Door-Mounted Spare Tire, Extended Warranty Sales Pitch, Inaccurate Toyota Website The Bottom Line: Anybody looking at small SUVs has to consider this one. Just be aware you probably won't get much of a discount.
Introduction: We have now owned and driven our 2006 Toyota Rav4 Limited for about one month. The odometer reads 1300 miles. We two retirees live in the Northwest and were looking for a multi-purpose vehicle that could function in a variety of weather ...

Pros: A perfect family car: comfortable ride, lots of room, latest safety features, very versatile. Cons: V6 is hard to get (as of March 06); no rebates or incentives. The Bottom Line: Versatility, Toyota quality and reliability, V6!
Purchased vehicle: 2006 RAV4, Base model, 4WD, V6. Color: silver with ash interior. Options: side/curtain airbags, alloy wheels, roof rails and cross bars, tonneau cover with cargo net, floor/cargo mats. It seemed this was the only option ...

Pros: Interior, Safety, Performance, Turning radius, Overall size, Audio system Cons: Suspension, rear door, 3rd row seat, fuel efficency, supply shortages. The Bottom Line: Until I get used to this suspension, I can't recommend it.
I have the V6 4WD base model with the 3rd row seat and the towing prep package. This package does not contain a towing hitch even though the Toyota web site says it does, just pre-wiring and some enhanced transmission fluid system. I have 670 miles ...

Pros: 6 cyl engine, gas mileage, storage capacity Cons: Audio, road noise, cabin refinements The Bottom Line: Toyota reliabilty made me go for this one. It does have flaws however.
Our family bought a RAV4 2005 model last September and we bought a 2006 model this August. Because we now have 2 RAVs I am compelled to review the 2006 model as it compares to the 2005. Engine: Our 2005 is a 4 cyl and is quite peppy but when I was ...

Pros: Longer Body/width, More horsepower, Good Gas mileage. Cons: a few cosmetic quirks, Gated shifter, miss the 'OD' button. The Bottom Line: Definitely worth looking into and at least test driving.
Price Paid: $23,355
BACKGROUND I traded in a 2003 Saturn Vue V6 AWD for the 2006 Rav4 2.4L - My experience with the RAV is limited to my wife's 2004 4wd base model. There are a few things I liked about both vehicles that I miss/dislike in the 2006 model. My 2006 is a ...

Pros: V6 power-perfect size for us-good fuel mileage- Sharp looks-Fun to drive Cons: None I can think of... The Bottom Line: Very well designed little vehicle. It's probably not the perfect car for everyone but it was as close to perfect as we could find.
First I'd like to say I second just about all the comments "friendly_jacek" has mentioned about the RAV4. I too find it hard to believe there are so few reviews on this vehicle. Especially since it is so much different than the previous RAV4 design. I ...

Pros: Good fuel economy for an suv. Easy to drive. Great standard features, size, comfort Cons: A little pricey. Hard to find 6 cyl with the option package you might want. The Bottom Line: Great SUV for someone who wants Toyota reliability, economy and style.
Yea this isn't as cute as the prior years...I don't want cute. I wanted to go back to a Toyota PU with a club cab, but this is better if you don't need an open bed. I drove the 4 cyl in January and found it very nice. Then I drove the 6 cyl last ...

Pros: Well rounded package. Great power and handling. Good towing car. Cons: Some options hard to get. Considered a girly car by some. The Bottom Line: The finest small SUV available here, period (now, i'm talking V6, 3rd row seats here).
This is very strange to have so few reviews for 2006 RAV4 as the 2006 model has been around for a year and 2007 model (basically unchanged compared to 2006) has been around now for a few months. Nevertheless, this is my take on the car. I bought 2006 ...

Pros: Great Gas Milage, Lots of room, Safe in Winter Cons: I have no complaints! The Bottom Line: Looking for an SUV with lots of room, high level of safety, and great gas milage this is your car!
I bought my RAV4 NEW/USED (It had 200 miles on it, someone traded it in after having it a week) in the summer of 2006. I have enjoyed the great gas milage (22-24MPG) that this vehicle gets, especially with the ever rising gas prices. I also like how much ...

Pros: Solid 4WD operations, competent ride & handling Cons: Gas mileage, rattles, no Auto headlights, no radio information, cheesy cupholders. The Bottom Line: Toyota quality is not what it used to be, they are getting cheaper with materials, things like seats & trim rattle. Would shop the competition next time.
I had a Toyota Matrix & loved it, but decided to grow up a little, got the RAV 4, 4cyl 4WD Limited model...like the auto climate control it is easy to use. The reclining rear seats & rear legroom are a plus. The car failed my expectations in the ...

Pros: Everything, but... Cons: Sun Visor(read review) The Bottom Line: Before I bought one for myself, everyone who has one could only say good things about it.
I bought a 2006 RAV4 Sport 4 cyl about a month ago. Every time I get in to drive where ever I need to go I'm in heaven. The 4 cyl engine is plenty to get around as well as economical these days with gas prices soaring and the V6 not getting as good ...

Unsafe ECU in 2006 Toyota Rav4

Pros: Quality, comfort, ride, handling, features. Cons: Electronic throttle or ECU or whatever. Serious safety flaw.
I have a 4 cyl. 2006 LTD Rav4. Overall very pleased with the car, but it has a serious safety issued relating to the ECU. I don't know that much about it, something to do with an electronic throttle or some such thing. Anyway, if you check other forums you'll see more and more complaints of a serious Lag or Hesitation normally 2 seconds or so when trying to either merge, or accelerate from a slow speed. I've nearly been rear ended on 3 occassions. I'm 58 so i know how to drive, but when you push on an accelerator to merge etc. it should pick up speed, not get lost in some strange mode. Toyota claims this is normal. understand Camry has same issue (not sure if with 4 cyl. or what) but possible ECU solution or computer change etc. Anyway, for this one issue alone i cannot recommend the Rav4. Shame cause it overall is a great vehicle.
