Pros: Acceleration better than last year's Golf, Price, Standard equipment. Cons: Interior quality, Fuel economy, questionable reliability. The Bottom Line: The Rabbit is a good step up from last year's base model Golf, but interior quality has suffered.
As a slick marketing ploy to increase sales in the US, Volkswagen dropped the Golf designation last year in favor of the Rabbit nameplate: the Rabbit had previously served as Canada and the USs version of Volkswagen's Golf from 1974-1984. The new ...

Pros: Classy interior, ingot-solid structure, surprising feature content. Cons: Sluggish performance, worst-in-class fuel economy, long-throw clutch, steep pricing. The Bottom Line: Volkswagen's bob-tailed Jetta represents little better value than its sedan stablemate. Shoppers expecting a sporty driving experience will be particularly disappointed.
Background I noticed something funny when I opened my December 2006 issue of Car & Driver. Well, two things. One was the magazines disastrous, eye-straining redesign that has readers dropping their subscriptions like hot potatoes. ...

Pros: Engine Performance, steering ratio, stereo, interior layout, safety results Cons: Fuel consumption, back seat access The Bottom Line: The interior, ride, quality, and performance of a luxury car, but with a compact car's price tag.
After I was unfortunately rear ended by a twenty year old on a cell phone, I needed a new car quick that was compact, had some more power than my 02 Saturn SL1, and was actually fun to drive with a solid feel to it. Good luck car shopping with those ...

Pros: Feels like quality, standard heated seats (!), nice sound, solid Cons: I need to get window tinting, but that's all. Gas mileage could be better. The Bottom Line: Very intelligent and generous car. I recommend.
I am in love with my new Rabbit. It's fun to drive, zippy, so comfortable, even for my larger-than-average husband. When I financed it, the banker wanted to come out and look at it. He's 6-foot-6 and wears size 15 shoes. I made him get in. He was amazed ...

Pros: Acceleration
Quality
Ride
Soundness Cons: Key is bulky/ignition is awkward
Should have in dash stereo USB port as standard
I have had my 2007 VW Rabbit 5 Speed for 6 months now. I absolutely love it. It handles superbly and feels like a much more expensive car than the price tag indicates. I had a 2004 Saturn Vue prior to this and moving to the VW Rabbit is a huge jump in quality both inside and out. The control panel is laid out logically and there is more than enough room for 4 people. I use this car for may daily commutes which is about 80 miles roundtrip and I am very comfortable and it has made my commutes that much more bearable.

VW nightmare - horrible customer care

Pros: Neat features, nice styling Cons: WORST POSSIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
My son purchased a 2007 VW Rabbit, new. A few months after he bought it, a crack developed in the windshield overnight. The local dealer in Las Vegas evaluated it as a warranty issue. Before he could get it repaired, my son had to move to PA. The PA dealer won't cover it under warranty. Numerous calls to VW 'customer care', as they call it, have been fruitless. They have lied to us and refuse to acknowledge this is a warranty issue.
Now the car is having oil consumption issues. This just started and we are watching it closely, but a new car should not use oil, period. If it does, it is defective, period. We'll see what VW says about this. More lies, ducking and dodging, I'm sure.
Conclusion - DO NOT BUY VW.

Great Car!

Pros: Looks, handling, ride, standard items such as CD/MP3 changer, heated seats and much more! Cons: Add more storage compartments in the front. The radio reception not strong, but not bad.
The Rabbit is a great car in this price range. I drove some of the Japanese imports and this car beats them all as far as power, handling and ride are concerned. It's very solid and well planted as most German cars are. It's not "tinny." For the options you get, the price is right! I bought this car as a commuter car and have not been disappointed. It fits you like a glove when you drive it! Some are complaining about the gas mileage...but you can't compare it to Civics, Mazda3s, and the Yaris...etc as the horsepower and torque blow those all away. They are not in same class! You want to drive a lawnmower....then buy a Yaris or Fit!
