Pros: Great picture! Does great with CD's too. Cons: Does not play most CDR media.
This is a great DVD player. However it is not the all-in-one wonder tool that we should expect of a DVD player nowadays. The picture quality is superb, as is the audio quality.
One of the features that I really enjoy are the dimmable...
Pros: Plays any disk
Flexible setup
Universal Learning remote control Cons: Slow disk change
I can compare this HK DVD50 5-disk DVD changer against a Toshiba 5-disk changer (Model #SD4109X)I used for about a year. I'm very happy with the DVD50 and prefer it mainly because it plays MP3's I burn onto DVD's and CD's. In addition, the setup menu and...
Pros: Great sound, good DVD menus, very good video Cons: Slow CD/DVD loading speeds, limited console controls
I thoroughly researched DVD players and wanted a multiple disc player with great video and sound. I was initially considering a Sony player, but ended up looking seriously at the Harmon Kardon. I've had the DVD5 for about a year now.
Pros: Quality design and build, support for lots of media. Eye catching design. Progressive output. Cons: No random play on mp3 disks. No SVCD support.
This player is really nice. For those of you who have not read my other article, I had an Apex 600a that died after owning it for less than a year. Because I am a person who hates to buy things twice, I decided to spend the money this time and get...
HK won't stand behind product by blankk ,Feb 10 '05
Pros: it worked fine 'til it quit Cons: HK won't address a reoccurring problem
The central laser processor broke and HK says that it is out-o-warranty so, sorry. The problem has a fix for $150 but that would have only a 90 day warranty on the fix only. This is a known chronic problem that they are ignoring and they blame it on the DVD industry for changing security on dvd's.
Harmon/Kardon Blows it Big with DVD50 by garygannon ,Feb 07 '04
Pros: Good picture and sound quality. Cons: Problems with CD shuffle mode and MP3 CDs. Difficulty reading DVDs and lengthy set-up mode.
The HK DVD 50 from Harmon/Kardon is the most expensive boat anchor I've ever purchased. Billed as the wonder CD player of 2001 with capabilities far out stripping their competition and a picture quality unsurpassed by them as well, the HK DVD 50 commanded a lofty price of well over $550. Having owned my current Harmon/Kardon stereo system for over 10 years with flawless and superior performance, I didn't hesitate one minute to shell out this large amount of money because of Harmon/Kardon's reputation and my experience with their product. What a mistake this was.
The HK DVD50 has not lived up to the standards Harmon/Kardon has set with their other products and has never worked properly since we took it out of the box. Buyer beware. Even after carefully researching this product, I got duped. The high-end retailer I purchased it from, California Discounts in Penngrove California refuses to stand behind their product and all Harmon/Kardon will do is direct me to a service center. Seems that both of them know they built a lemon of a product and don't want anything to do with it. Go figure!
