Sony's SAT-B55 is a DirecTV Plus satellite receiver, which means it is capable of receiving signals from multiple satellites. This receiver will enable you to watch almost all of the new channels beamed by DirecTV (expect high-definition TV signals) - provided that you also have one of the new, wider satellite dishes. Even if you don't want to swap out your current dish, you might buy the SAT-B55 as a replacement for an older receiver. It's packed with features, such as an on-screen guide that integrates your local stations. The SAT-B55 is VCR friendly. The auto title insert feature stores title and date information for programs that you've scheduled for recording. Also, this receiver is compatible with Sony's SmartFile VCRs and has one-button record and a 10-event timer. The Media Window program guide lets you keep an eye on one channel while surfing DirecTV's 200-plus stations. The SAT-B55 also offers a variety of enhanced viewing options, such as a station index with graphics, four groups of eight user-defined presets and custom presets; these presets might be helpful in keeping objectionable material from young eyes. Other features include 32-bit Microprocessor, a message indicator, automatic title insert for recording and integrated guide for three satellites.Dual A/V outputs allow you to connect this receiver to two TVs. The SAT-B55 also has both S-video and RF connections. It comes with a unified remote that can operate most TVs, VCRs and cable boxes. |
