Pros: Informative about Alzheimer's Disease. Cons: Very slow moving and depressing. Should be a documentary. NOT entertaining.
Summary: I rented this movie upon a co-worker's recommendation after conversing about Alzheimer's Disease. I was actually looking forward to it but now that I have seen it, I don't know why. While it can be said that it is a gentle portrayal of ... read more

Pros: Performances. Cons: Much else.
Summary: The high praise for Away from Her renders it one of 2007's most inexplicably acclaimed films: Sure, it's good, but is it good enough to earn an 88 on Metacritic.com, becoming the year's 9th highest-rated release? Methinks not. For a first-time ... read more

Pros: An absorbing study of what happens as we grow old. Cons: Two needless, juvenile, and self-indulgent comments about American culture and politics.
Summary: As the opening credits roll it is evident that Away From Her is not going to be a happy film. Fiona (Julie Christie) is washing and drying dishes after supper with her husband Grant (Gordon Pinsent). He dries a frying pan, hands it to Fiona and ... read more

Pros: Polley's mature direction. Terrific performances from Pinsent, Christie, Thomson, and Dukakis. Cons: Grating, unnecessary moment referring to the Iraq war.
Summary: In Away From Her, director Sarah Polley tackles the issue of Alzheimers disease and how it affects an older married couple. This is a movie that could have gone wrong in so many ways. With a young director, many might question her ability to ... read more
