E. B. White, Peter F. (AFT) Neumeyer, Edith Goodkind Rosenwald, Lessing J. Rosenwald Collection (Library of Congress) - Charlotte's Web: Student Packet Grades 3-4
Pros: Wilbur, Charlotte, Templeton, Fern. The prose. The plot. That beautiful web. Cons: You're kidding, right?
For our family reading time, we've been reading some very good books...ones a bit advanced in length and complexity for our almost four year old, but nevertheless books that all of us, parents and daughter alike, can enjoy. We don't mind stretching her ...
Pros: A classic story Cons: Starts out slow, death
Anticipating the release of the movie Charlotte's Web we borrowed the classic book by E.B. White from the library. The Story The book tells the story of Wilbur the pig. He was born the runt of the litter and saved from an early death ...
Yeah, that about sums Wilbur up. Long before the world was entranced by the sheep-herding skills of a pig named Babe, a pig named Wilbur captured the hearts of young and old alike. Like Babe, he was a runt, but he owed his existence to a young girl named...
Pros: characters, story, language....pretty much everything Cons: none
Long before studies came out that officially indicated that children who were read to became adults who read, my parents were reading to me. I remember some of the picture books. The thing I most remember, however, was my progression from picture books...
Pros: The premier sympathetic spider and lovable pig of children's literature, engaging plot, and beautiful prose. Cons: It was made into a dreadful movie.
What do you get when you combine a sagacious spider and a pure-hearted pig? If you use an economy of words, and write with the gentle prose of E.B. White, you get the children's classic Charlotte's Web. But wait, before I say more . . ....
Pros: Simple tale, beautifully told. I wouldn't change a thing Cons: Absolutely none
No, there are no fairy godmothers or spells in this book. I call all special books 'magic' books. And you don't get any more special than Charlotte's Web. I consider it to be the best in children's books.
Pros: a sweet innocent story of friendship Cons: sad ending
As stated in some of my recent reviews, upon doing some attic cleaning I came across a box of books I had owned in my youth. Being a neurotic kind of mom, I had to reread them to determine whether they belonged on my 7.5 year old daughter's bookshelf....
Pros: Classic tale of friendship, and farm life Cons: introduction to death,
I have read the book Charlotte's Web and seen the movie. The book I read as a child and the movie I saw as a pre-teen. I loved them both, although both did seem to be an introduction to death.
Pros: Classic, story of love and friendship, nice illustrations. Cons: none
Charlotte's Web is a book that has been in my family for many years.
This was the book that I read when I was young, then my children read this book and now my 4 year old Grandson wants it read to him whenever he sleeps at my house.
Pros: beautifully illustrated, well written and a great story Cons: fantasy, animals talk and there is a bit about death in the end, when the spider dies.
This book is a tradition in my family. See, I'm reading MY book to my 4 year old daughter. Yes, I said MY book, because its the book I had when I was younger. The book I read, and reread till it was dog eared. My daughter loves the story as much as I did...
A pig, a rat, and 8-yr old girl and one very clever little spider. These are among the characters that form an unlikely friendship in E.B. White's much loved, "Charlotte's Web".
Pros: wonderful children's book, strong characterizations, interesting morals throughout book Cons: The fact that it has to end
This opinion should just about wrap up my splurge of opinions written on children's book, all inspired by a children's literature course that I have so recently had the pleasure of taking. I highly recommend a similar course to anyone who can find one,...
Pros: Challenging Vocabulary; Thought Provoking; funny and Interesting for Kids and Adults Cons: Sad Parts, so Watch the Sensitive Kids
AS I was browsing through the Epinions site, I noticed that the children's book "Charlotte's Web" was recommended by members 100% of the time! Unanimous, it is, this book is a great classic and one you should consider reading with your child...
Pros: Well written book for kids at chapter book level Cons: Personally, I just don't care for it
Plot: A runt pig, Wilber, must rely on the aid of a literate spider and other barnyard animals to help him survive into adulthood and beyond. As a runt, normal farming procedures dictate an early death at the hands of the farmer. With the help...
Charlottes Web, one of Americas best-loved childrens books, is seamless in plot, poignant in its delineation of characters who will live in childrens ...More at Christianbook.com
