Shopping For Books For My Son Made Easy!

by meleahk, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Feb 25 '03
My 8-year-old son loves to read! Well, sometimes he does. I admit that we sometimes have to stay on him about it. His interested are many and Nintendo® and Play Station® are on the top of his list. But, he does enjoy a good book now and again. And...

by Freak369 Freak369 is a Top Reviewer on Epinions in Online Stores & Services, Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 10, Nov 09 '05
Pretty much everyone is familiar with the CD clubs that offer you a ton of discs for a penny plus shipping and handling. But there are other clubs like the “Fruit of The Month”, “Chocolate of The Month” and even “Dessert of The ...

Children's Book of the Month Club is On-Line!

by mizgnomer Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Dec 04 '02
I love reading, and when my first (and so far only) child was born I wanted to be sure to expose him to tons of books. Being a newbie to the world of parenting, I didn't know what books were appropriate for newborns, or know which books were the latest...

Awful! Would never do it again!

by mommam , Nov 08 '06
PARENTS BEWARE!!!! CBOMC is just stealing money from you. Go shop at Borders, Barnes & Noble or better yet your local independent bookstore. Heck order from Amazon or Powell's Books online if that is easier for you. The catch here is the hidden ...

Deceptive Advertising.

by zteacher5 , Oct 15 '05
This book club is a double edged sword. If you don't get out much, it is wonderful. If you don't keep track of your spending it is marvelous. They do offer quality books. The hook is to overspend in order to complete your club membership obligations. ...

Regretful

by cherimegb , Jun 26 '09
CBMC is an outright scam. Their terms and conditions are not clear in the initial offer and from personal experience I would urge those to never deal with these people. The initial offer is to send a certain number of books up front for "free" ...

How inconvenient

by dz89278 , Apr 17 '08
Okay, I fully understand and agree with the two year contract after getting such a great deal on my first order. The problem with this club? You have to actually tell them every single month that you do not want them to send out the "main selection" ...

Bad customer service & would not award YoCash as their advertisement said!

by sethsmom , Jul 24 '09
In my opinion, Children's Book of the Month Club is a joke. I am a part of YoVille, an online virtual "game" where you can earn points to "buy" things in the virual world, and companies have offers to award YoCash if you order from them, or if you fill ...

An amended view: I think this is mostly a good deal

by myna , Oct 13 '04
Update: In my previous review I said that the advertised prices are deceptive. Since then, I've done more research and found that the prices may seem higher sometimes because apparently the books are mostly hardcover editions (there are board book ...

Overall not worth the hassle. S/H prices are more than sales tax in most states.

by slorayne , Jun 21 '05
Customer service was friendly, well-timed but expensive delivery. Treasure point books DO NOT count towards your required purchases. I found that out the hard way, now I am having to pay FULL price for a book I do not want/need. This part of your ...

AWFUL!!!
by samhaymom ,Apr 28 '06
I can't STAND CBOMC. Their customer service is terrible. Their shipping and handling is terrible. If you need to contact the company and wish to speak to someone directly GOOD LUCK. There is no such thing as customer service in this company. To cancel my subscription I have to write to them. Sorry, but I have two toddlers and I work full time. Let me cancel by phone or online. From now on I will take my kids to Barnes and Noble and let them explore the other side of reading...the fun of browsing through lots of books and knowing that there is so much to choose from. If you don't mind being held hostage by a company, and like paying high prices for books and shipping and handling, then go ahead. For me, no way.

A must visit for ALL parents!
by bkavetsky ,Aug 23 '05
I love this club. I just recently re-joined when I found out I was pregnant. The deals you find are amazing. The Intro offer is 8 books for $2 plus an option to buy two more for only $4.95...10 books! You are then obliged to buy 4 more books in two years (never a problem). I actually received over 15 books in my intro offer for a total of $32 (shipping is where $2 turns into $32)!!! That is like $2 a book...and I am talking quality books. Hardcover, beautiful collectors books. I would recommend, and have recommended this site to all parents!

warning, cbmc scammers & liers.
by barbierh ,Jul 24 '09
WARNING TO ALL BUYERS; CBMC, has MOST HORRIBLE customer service. Their SHIPPING and HANDLING is the WORST. I ordered 6 books, may 28,2009, called 4 times, all the time, telling me they mailed the books via regular mail, and DOUBLE CHARGE me 2ce,,I never got them, untill JUNE 21,2009, I threated them with canceling everything,  got 3 wrong books & a small child back pack via UPS, can you belive it? I WILL NEVER EVER ORDER THRU THIS CBMC, I just returned everything, & put a stop on my credit card, in my opinion, the are SAMMERS & liars!!

Bad
by dermatitisdocNew Member ,Dec 21 '09
These people are thieves.  Their obligations are not clearly stated anywhere.  Whenever I bought books in my effort to fulfill my obligation (over $10, no DVD), they still said they did not count.  On top of this, they harassed me by phone at night.  I told them at least 15 times not to call me at home.  I wrote to them to complain but that didn't help either.  Finally, one night they called my home while I was trying to put my kids to bed.  The person on the phone was so incredibly sarcastic and rude when I said that I wasn't interested in their phone calls.  I don't care how many free books they tell you you'll get, it's simply not worth it.  You'll be on the hook forever.
