Pros: Interesting concept, good acting, decent script Cons: See review
Summary: Although "Cloverfield" won the "box office" contest during its first weekend (a dubious honor considering this weekend's winner was "Meet The Spartans"), I wasn't sure I wanted to see it. The warning signs at the theater didn't bother me. I've seen a ... read more

Pros: Suspenseful, action packed at the end Cons: Party scene went on entirely too long
Summary: I should not have read reviews prior to seeing this movie as I was feeling queasy before it even started! I am not a big fan of shaky films so I was worried that I would not be able to enjoy it. The movie was not as bad as I expected and the shakiness ... read more

Pros: Different take on a crowded genre. Cons: Less party footage and more disaster would've been nice. Also a more fulfilling ending.
Summary: UPDATE: Cloverfield is much more entertaining when you add RiffTrax! I went to rifftrax.com yesterday and downloaded the trax for Cloverfield. I watched it again with Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy (voice of Crow T. Robot on Mystery Science Theater 3000) ... read more

Pros: Great monster movie; keeps you guessing Cons: Shaking camera movement; thin plot
Summary: Hud: Look, all I'm saying is that this thing coulda have come from anywhere! It could have come from outer space! Marlena: Like Superman? Hud: Yeah! Wait... you know who Superman is? Marlena: [sarcastically] Wait, you ... read more

Pros: Follows to it's own technical standard, entertaining sequences Cons: Romantic subplots feel forced and unreal
Summary: January is often a month where studios dump the trash they don't believe in. These are usually witless movies with a lack of star power or much of a coherent plot. For a moviegoer like me, I hate this season. I love movies and I hate spending money on ... read more

Pros: Good movie, exciting, fast-paced, action packed. Cons: Not much.
Summary: No, it's not one of my all-time favorite movies, but it was a movie worth watching in the theaters. Now, from the things I had heard from it, I was TOTALLY DISINTERESTED in seeing it or even spending money on it, but my husband convinced me. I had heard ... read more

Pros: Action packed, Had me on the edge of my seat, kept me entertained Cons: I can never watch it for the first time again, it was so exciting!
Summary: This was the most fun I have had at the movies in a long time. I wasn't expecting much to be honest. My boyfriend had heard some of his friends talking about it when he visited them in Los Angeles, so he was really excited to see it. I usually stick ... read more

Pros: The Monster Looks Hideous and Scary Cons: Lack of Character Development, No Background Information on the Monster, Camera View May Sicken People
Summary: Cloverfield (2008) was the first highly-anticipated film to start the new year. A film has not received such a large cult following since King Leonidas and the Spartans victoriously defeated the much-larger ancient Persian army in the epic graphic ... read more

Pros: Good Action, First Person perspective, the ending. Cons: Guy with the camera, Dodging every crisis that comes along.
Summary: Typical monster action thriller, sorta. What do I mean by this, the main characters escape almost certain death multiple times with only a few minor cuts and bruises along the way. However, somehow, the filmmakers were able to present the movie in a ... read more

Pros: Superb acting; great story; choppy camera work Cons: Slow start; too short; choppy camera work
Summary: Those of us--boys anyway--who grew up in the '70's made the Saturday afternoon Japanese monster movie a ritual. Godzilla, Gamera, and Rodan, are every bit a piece of American television culture as Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and Star ... read more

Pros: Matinees are cheap, you can upsize your snacks for a quarter. Cons: I can never get those 75 minutes back.
Summary: After returning home from seeing "Cloverfield", I had to take my dogs outside. We'd just been hit with a rather nasty ice storm, so the walk was quite treacherous. We started in the house, put the leashes on, went outside, they did what I took them out ... read more

Pros: You get to play with the dark side of your imagination. Cons: Some will object to not being spoon-fed the story's details; you gotta stay awake.
Summary: Some movies dare you to use your imagination, rather than to simplemindedly give you everything all in one clear (and not as interesting) package. Film makers may know this, but it seems like nine out of ten film makers today who work in the ... read more

Pros: Subject matter Cons: Lack of development of said subject matter, video camera point of view for entire film
Summary: I came into the movie blind. No previews, nothing. Just me and my 13 and 15 year old and a bag of popcorn. I had hoped (albeit prayed) that after 15 minutes of the first person view through the lens of a vidcam, that view would change to the ... read more

Pros: Like a virtual roller coaster ride Cons: Can make you sick, inconclusive ending
Summary: Cloverfield Remember the Blair Witch Project? Well, Cloverfield is one of those films that is done through the eyes of one person's camcorder just the same. And because of this, the entire movie felt like a roller coaster. I will be revealing bits ... read more

Pros: Plot, Amazing Special Effects, Believable Characters Cons: Motion Sickness, bad for the big screen
Summary: The Bad: Motion Sickness My husband and I were so excited to finally go and see Cloverfield, which from the first preview, we were hooked. Unfortunately, I spent nearly half of the movie with my eyes closed due to motion sickness from the jittery ... read more
