Pros: somewhat adjustable backlight, PCMCIA support/extra battery life via addon sled Cons: outlook on Windows only, battery hog, screen somewhat pixelated, no built-in expansion, bulky and heavy
I've been having a long debate with myself over whether to write an iPaq review. I really hate my iPaq but much of what I hate is the confusing and convoluted operating system and not the device itself. I feel pretty strongly about separating the OS from...
Pros: bright clear display, stereo sound, Pocket PC operating system Cons: A few quirks with ActiveSync, expensive
updated 12/09/2000
I am the proud owner of a new iPAQ. I have a few confessions to make before I get to the meat of this review. First, I don’t need a PDA. I don’t have a lot of meetings to track, I don’t travel for work,...
Pros: Just about everything you could want in a PDA Cons: Plastic flip screen would have been nice
I have owned a Pilot, a Pro, and a Palm III. The time came for me to make the jump to a better screen (read as: Color) and I was ready to buy the Palm color handheld (around $450) when I found out there was a new Windows CE on the block called...
Pros: Beautiful and functional design. Great color screen. Cons: The Palm OS still works better than the MS Pocket PC OS
In my never ending search for the perfect PDA I've test driven the iPAQ the past week. I was sadly disappointed with the Jornada in the new Pocket PC realm but much happier with the iPAQ. First of all - it's beautiful. Bigger than the Palm V but more...
Pros: Small, lots of memory, fast performance, good screen Cons: A little complex, no onboard expandability
After much wrangling I finally got my hands on the iPaq, and having looked at all 3 of the consumer PocketPCs on the market, I definitely agree with everyone here that it's the best of the three, namely because it makes a serious improvement in the...
Pros: lightweight-great color display-price Cons: none
Face it! Today lugging around a laptop everywhere you go is not only impractical, it simply isn't necessary! In most cases, as you travel the world on business trips, you are checking E-mail, sending and receiving memos, putting together an Excel...
Pros: Jawdropping power and aesthetics. Connecting to the internet and outlook for email is truly a gem. The display is phenomenal. Cons: Overpriced. The industry itself. For the general user, the price does not justify what it can do when compared to other such units on the market.
I am a gadget freak! I will buy a gadget even if I don't need it. It just has to be enviable, and perform some wildly interesting task. Last week, it was the IOMEGA Hipzip which caught my eye. This week, it is the Compaq Ipaq 3650 handheld computer....
Pros: Windows CE OS, 32MB RAM, Beautiful Screen, Easy to Use, Excellent Software, Easily Upgraded Cons: Price, Cost of accessories
Update: 8-17-2002
I've been using my IPAQ for nearly two years now, and I still love it! About eight months ago, I received the Dual-Slot PC Card Expansion sleeve as a gift, dramatically increasing its functionality. This accessory retails...
After seeing this wonderful PDA at CompUSA one day, I decided to buy it after playing with it at the store for over an hour. I was a Palm III user and had been disappointed with it's limited software choices. and the gray screen was starting to bore...
I am a software developer and wrote the PacMan emulator for Microsoft's PocketPC release in April. Being a software developer working with Microsoft, I have owned and/or tested every HPC/PPC/PocketPC device and so far, this is my favorite one. It does...
Pros: Fast, great screen, lots of RAM Cons: Some quality control issues, not a lot of software
Like most people, I had my iPaq on order (and backorder, and more backorder...) for about six weeks. When I saw that the local Circuit City had them in stock, I rushed over and picked one up. After using a Palm Professional for the last year, I thought...
Pros: sleek compact style, excellent color, 32bit processor, super fast usb Cons: mediocre battery life, no extra software
Well after much anticipation I finally got my hands on a iPaq Pocket PC! Compaq definately put some thought into this gadget, it has met and in some cases exceed all my expectations. Sporting a brushed metal alloy look the iPaq is strikingly sleek and...
Pros: Sexy, Fast, good multimedia Cons: No display cover
I purchased this product because I had an HP Jornada 430se, and they found out that the 64K color display was really only 4K. So, they offered to buy back the HP after nearly a year. So, I decided to go shopping for newer technology.
MY PROBLEM: I’m constantly switching my methods of organization. I'll use a Franklin Planner for a few months, then a Palm V, then a spiral bound notebook. I bemoaned being unable to stick with one system until I read...
Pros: Bright Screen, expansion capabilities, good sync with Outlook Cons: Slippery, very easy to drop, short battery life, Pocket PC OS
Having been a Palm user for a little over a year, I was required to switch to the Compaq Ipaq for work purposes. First of all, I'm not one of those "platform bigots". I like whatever works best for me. The iPaq falls short in a number of areas. However,...
Pros: Amazing color screen! Plays MP3s LOUD SPEAKER! Pocket Word! USB cradle! Synchronizes with Outlook! Cons: Bad character recognization. PCMCIA expansion makes it HUGE! Difficult to seat in cradle.
Halo!
Okay .. I recieved this PDA from my work. I am a computer technician and our customers have a variety of PC's, laptops and handhelds, now including IPAQ's.
I had purchased a Palm VII when it was only available in the tri-state area of...
I want to start off comments regarding the iPAQ 3600 series with a note that there is no difference in the technical spec/performance of the iPAQ 3630 and 3650. The difference is that the 3630 model is available through RadioShack, which has a...
Pros: Fast,Colorful,Easy,Intuitive,Easily Expandable,Meets a Salesman's every data need. Cons: Expensive...but worth it
A friend recently convinced me to go digital for all may planning needs. The rationale was that if I lost my beloved franklin planner, suicide would be the only reasonable and honorable option for me.
Pros: Color screen, handwriting recognition Cons: Battery life, size
Being a bit of a gadget geek, I have carried a PDA for many years. Until recently, that PDA had always been a Palm. Not only have I been customer of Palm, I have also been an ardent supporter of their products. I never shied away from the chance to...
Pros: Speed, display and storage possibilities Cons: Lack of expansion cards at this time
I admit it, I love gadgets! And I am the type of person who cannot resist a good deal. Because of these traits I am a very happy owner of a Compaq iPaq.
I have owned and used the primitive Sharp organizers, the Avigo, the Palm IIIx, and the...
Pros: Beautiful Color Reflective LCD Screen, Plays MP3s, 32 MB RAM, Lots of Apps Cons: Expensive, somewhat heavy
I recently got a shipment of Compaq iPaq H3650 PocketPCs from Microsoft for evaluation, and I nearly ditched my Palm V after getting the chance to play with these marvelous toys. The iPaq is arguably the best PDA that's currently on the market today,...
Pros: The best one on the market, feature rich and worth every penny. Cons: Quality control not the best and support in UK a bit flakey
My whole team got one of these 3-4 months ago, as part of a drive to improve efficiency and to help us work smarter.
Verdict - Virtually complete success.
Linked to a desktop machine this baby gives you everything that MS Office gives you but...
Pros: Does more than any PDA I've seen
Cons: Minor problem with headphone jack
I had a Handspring Visor Prism for about 4 months and was fairly happy with it, but found that it had some limitations and did not like having to learn writing in Graffiti. After trying out a Compaq 3630 a colleague had bought, I sold the Handspring and...
After looking to update my Handspring Visor to a sleeker, a bit smaller device, I took hold of an iPaq and returned it less than a month later. They tried to curve the edges and make it fit your hand when in actuality it was horrible awkward and it felt...
Pros: Speed; Daylight Viewability; Size; Expansion Capabilities Cons: No Built-In CF Slot; Color Depth @ 12-Bit Only
I've owned Apple Newton MessagePads 120 to 2100, a variety of Sharp Wizards, the short-lived Sony MagicLink, the sleek Psions, Palm Pro and V, and a slew of Windows CE devices from 1.0 to PocketPCs. Needless to say, I really love mobile computers. The...
Pros: Size, color screen, resolution, speed, features, compatibility with Office Cons: Size and weight. Too bad it is not slightly thinner and lighter. No Mac support!
I've used a Palm or a Visor for quite a while now. Recently, I broke my third Visor screen. Uggggh!
But after toying around with paying another $85 for a repair, I decided to investigate what other options there were.
I went from a Visor Deluxe to the new 206MHZ Color Pocket PC, and boy is there a difference. This new system is simply AWESOME. No way will I go back. Even the little things are amazing, such as the quality of the color screen in direct sunlight.. its...
Pros: Color Screen, Lots o Memory, MS familiarity Cons: Battery life, OS still not perfect, bad Compaq quality control
News Flash!
My long anticipated Ipaq finally arrived and what a disaster! It was thrilling to get it and I immediately unpacked, charged and got to work. But wait. The left directional button seems dead. Yes it is, completely dead. No left...
Pros: Sleek, powerful, flexible, easy to configure Cons: Everything on back order because of high demand
The Compaq iPaq Pocket PC is the most powerful and easy to use personal digital assistant (PDA) I've ever owned. Using the USB dock, synchronization with my Windows 2000 laptop and Outlook was a breeze. As an information technology professional, I have...
Pros: PCMCIA slots, Wireless modems, and GPS. Up to 1 gigabyte of memory. Cons: The stylus sometimes gets stuck in the slot.
In August, I took the plunge and bought a Compaq iPAQ. HP and Casio each came out with Pocket PC's at the same time Compaq did this summer. After much review, I chose the Compaq for several reasons:
Pros: accurate handwriting recognition and beautiful design Cons: expensive with useless bells and whistles
After a long search for this hard-to-find device, I have to go through more trouble to auction it off on eBay. Fortunately, there are many individuals out there that would be too eager to overbid for it.
Pros: attractive, great colors, quality Cons: expensive, hard to find
I really think I am in love with this gadget. I have owned quite a few PDA's and many have been excellent, yet were missing one thing or the other. The Compaq Ipaq 3600 series (no difference between the 3630 and 3650)is truly the best. I was previously...
Pros: Weight, high speed, display, functions, upgrades. Cons: No CF built in, battery replacement hassles?
I jumped on the PDA bandwagon about three years ago [people still did not know what "PDA" meant]. I first bought a Cassiopeia E-11, then a Nino color 510, a Cassiopeia E-100, an E-115 and now this Ipaq. Actually, I still have the E-115, but I...
In the interest of full disclosure, this is my first PDA-type device. For the past seven years I've been an adamant user of the Franklin Planner. My biggest worry about moving to a PDA (i.e. Palm) was that I take lots of notes about my daily activities...
Pros: Best Color Screen for outdoor use PERIOD! Really fast speed. Cons: Bulky with expansion pack... that's all I can think of.
I had the original Palm-sized PC (Windows CE 2.0) and appreciated some of its benifits; however, upon receiving a free Palm Vx, I junked it for the slimmer and faster Palm. Well, ever since the PocketPC was introduced in March of 2000, I've watched...
Pros: Fast processing speed; sleek, comfortable design; lots of room for expandability Cons: Limited quantities of accessories; limited repair knowledge
After reading several reviews which compared the Jornada 545, the Cassiopeia E-115 and the iPaq 3630/3650 Pocket PC's, I chose the iPaq based on its faster processor (206 MHz), the fact that it has 32 Meg RAM(twice that of the Jornada 545), its...
Pros: Great Screen, Expandability, Functionality Cons: Requires Screen Protection
I have to admit I wanted to like the Pocket PCs. This is due to my love/hate relationship with my Palm OS based TRGPro. The TRGPro is one of the best Palm based PDAs, but it shares the same limitations of low screen resolution, limited expandability...
Pros: Fast CPU, Nice screen, Slim Cons: Still Many Unsolved Problems
As of November 2000, the iPaq Pocket PC still have many problems. I am a prudent consumer and am stunned to see the 42 opinions before mine rated the iPaq as "Highly Recommended" or "Recommended". I urge you to be prudent if you...
When I started looking into PDAs, I did not even know about the existence of the recent release of the Pocket PC platform. After doing some research, I knew that it was the type of device that I was looking for. Then it was decision making time: the HP...
Author’s Note: This review will be continuously updated with my everyday experiences as I use the Compaq iPaq I recently purchased. Check back here periodically for the good, the bad, and the ugly on the this hot PDA in an ongoing, real-world review...
Pros: Wireless Internet Ready, Bright Screen, Great Sync'ing with Outlook 2000 Cons: Expensive, Bulky with add-on sleeves
I started using PDAs with the first Apple Newtons (had 4 of them), then went to the Philips Nino, then two Palm Pilots, and finally I've added the Compaq H3650 Ipaq to my collection.
I wanted to wait for the H3670, but didn't have the...
Pros: brilliant color screen, size, speed, wow factor Cons: battery life, currently limited software
In the ever-changing world of PDA's the Compaq iPAQ is the current leader of the pack. The system is priced at or below most PPC's at $500 retail. It is also the fastest PDA on the market with a 206 MHz Intel StrongArm processor yet is smaller than the...
Pros: outlook compatibility, handwriting recognition Cons: not small enough, price, battery life
SUMMARY
I am a handheld computer fan and have owned two Apple Newtons, a Psion, Rex, and 2 Palm Pilots. I do a thorough analysis before every purchase, often spending an hour or so in the store trying out the devices. If Outlook...
Pros: Lightweight and cool looking. Cons: Expensive.
Is cool functions mean cheap..not so for the $499 priced Ipaq H3650 Pocket PC. This personal digital assistant has all the features of a PDA: address book, calendar, to-do list, and handy e-mail. It only weighs 6.3 ounces which is the lightest Windows...
Pros: A LOT of functionality Cons: Not yet perfect...but closer than any PDA
Preface:
Given the large number of very thorough reviews, I will not do a formal write-up of the IPaq's features and programs. This review will be more of a 'straight-from-the-hip' discussion of my experiences.
Pros: Good display, price, 64mb of memory Cons: Battery life, clock problems, snapping speaker, other unsolved issues.
The iPaq is, in my opinion, a pretty device with nice features, but under the surface there are some troubling problems that plague this device. An old saying in the computer industry goes that Compaq is actually an acronym, which stands for:
Like the Casio model, the Compaq PC Companion Model C140 is a 14-ounce Windows CE machine with a backlit screen. Selling for about $621 by mail, the Compaq unit we reviewed comes standard with 4MB of RAM. For about $100 less, you can get a 2MB...
Pros: Fast, beautiful screen, small and light (relatively anyhow) Cons: New processor type limits number of available apps
When I reviewed the HP Jornada 545, I thought that the Pocket PCs could kill Palm's hold on the handheld market. If the Compaq iPaq is representative of things to come, then I am now sure that it will.
Pros: Beautiful Display, Much better than Palm, Easy to use, tiny laptop Cons: ... None!
When I first saw advertisments for Compaq's iPAQ Pocket PC, I was blown away. It was one of those gadgets that I never thought I'd actually get because it just looked so wonderful. By looking at this thing, I never imagined it would cost only $500, I...
Pros: Style, 32 MB Ram, Windows CE Cons: Expensive, practically only found on eBay
I have had my iPaq for a month or so now, and I am still lovin' it. It's sleek chrome and silver turn heads all the time at my work place. But enough with the looks, let's get to what is really important, the hardware and OS. Currently, the 206 MHz...
Pros: Light weight, excellent display and sound. Cons: Could be overpriced and no expansion capabilities.
Ipaq Light.
Compaq ipaq H3650
I am looking to purchase a Palm or Handheld device. A few of my friends have one and I have been fortunate enough to get their scoop and even see how theirs are performing.
Pros: Great Screen, FAST, Lightweight Cons: Limited supply and no accessories
I purchased this product mainly as a neat new toy. They became available and I had noticed them on auction sites going for much more than they were worth. I had planned on re-selling it but after my first glance at it's sleek wonderful construction and...
Pros: Color monitor, Windows CE Cons: Weight, documentation
I spent about two months looking at the different offerings in the PDA market. Of course, the Palm line and Visor were early choices to look at. A friend introduced me to his HP Jornada and the Windows CE OS. This OS was more in line with what I had in...
Pros: fast processor, extreme flexability, mp3 compatibility, wireless ready Cons: screen cannot be tilted 90 degrees.
Ipaq H3650 Pocket PC is the ultimate compact office solution out on the market today. Compared to its competition, it is perhaps the best PDA out on the market today.
I purchased the IPAQ about 2 months ago and I fell in love with it. I...
Pros: Eye-catching styling; bright color display; very sleek; battery charges in cradle Cons: A bit bulky with add-ons; battery life stinks; accessories aren't cheap; dust under screen
I'd like to begin this review by admitting that I own an iPAQ 3650, but that I don't really need it. I probably don't really need a PDA, or half the electronic gadgets I spend my dwindling free time obsessing over for that matter! Needless to say, the...
Pros: High flexibility, extensive functions Cons: Low to zero availability
I currently have an evaluation unit of the Compaq IPAQ H3650. Some of the main features include: Voice Recorder, Ambient Light, Expansion Pack, and a color reflective thin film transistor LCD (TFT color display)with 240X320 resolution at .24 mm pixel...
Pros: new "expansion pack system" fast 206 mhz intel processor 32 mb memory 12 bit tft screen Cons: not many applications out yet-- i said yet- watch for them they will come in due time
Compaq's newest addition to its pda family is the IPAQ (what a great name for a pda). Some new incredible features that have been added to the plethora of existing programs are things like pocket word, pocket excel, and internet explorer. Coupled with...
Pros: lots of memory, fastest unit Cons: demand is greater than supply, expect to order and wait
I decided to buy the new Compaq iPaq Pocket PC before it was officially released. What attracted me was it's 6 oz. weight, 32 megs of RAM, Intel StrongARM 208 MHz processor, and the Pocket PC operating system.
Pros: screen, memory, fully interfaceable with MS programs on desktop Cons: Pocket Internet Explorer too week
I got to have a quick look at a Demo iPaq and it was immediately clear this was to be MINE! I was a Palm V user until then and made much use of the device, which I found practical and reliable. However, legibility was a definite problem and my eyes would...
Pros: Windows software is familiar, wireless internet option, functional pda features Cons: Software instability and glitches, add-ons are bulky, inadequate instructions
I got my ipaq as a pda, and also as a traveling replacement for my laptop, for short trips where I don't want to take my computer along with me, but still need access to some basic computer functions, as well as internet access.
Along with the...
Pros: Ability to record; storage space; fast processor Cons: Expensive; can be hard to use
The iPAQ is one of the best PDA's available on the market today. This PDA uses the familiar Windows interface, which makes it a lot easier to use right away.
The iPAQ comes with 32 MB of memory, and you can add storage cards to expand your...
So there I was with my Palm IIIe, the envy of the less sophisticated cliental I generally work with, standing in the aisle at Office Depot, eyes agape at the HP Jornada I held in my hands. I had never seen anything like this before. The colors, the...
Pros: Nice color screen, decent CPU speed. Cons: Terrible durability, short battery life, no way to do full backups/restores, expensive.
I've owned two 3600-series iPAQs. Both died, the same way. The touch screen eventually stops working right, making the entire device unusable. I didn't mistreat them. I never dropped them or exposed them to extreme temperatures. And this wasn't just...
Pros: Fast! Loads of Features! Handles PCMCIA Cards! Cons: Needs expansion packs to be useful! Screen not as good as Jornada! No Headphones!
I own an HP Jornada 548 and 10 (yes 10) Compaq iPaq 3650's. We have them connected wireless using Compaq's WL100 wireless network cards. They are dream machines.
The iPaq is great. It is noticably faster switching between apps then my Jornada...
As a long time Palm user, I was interested in how the iPAQ would fit my established processes. I have dabbled in the past with WinCE 2/2.1 era devices and been suitably disappointed. I also currently use a Palm Vx that has been sitting on the charger for...
Although this undoubtedly is the best PocketPC to date, it still suffers some from compatibility and some cumbersome methods. As far as hardware, it is superior. Mine (yes I can be clumsy) has survived 4 3+ foot drops to hard floors without a flinch....
Pros: Screen Cons: Clunky operating system, poor infrared connectivity, poor synchronization with Lotus Notes and poor PIM functions
I think the only thing to recommend the Ipaq is its screen. I don't care about the audio or digital photo functions. Besides there are much cheaper or better ways to find multimedia functionality.
Pros: Bright screen, expansion sleeves have potential Cons: Expansions sleeves are bulky, buttons should be on the side
Using 203mhz processor, the iPaq is much faster than the other Pocket PC's, the screen is readable in sunlight and uses an electric eye to adjust its brightness level. The slim design, light weight and brushed metal body really make it a standout from...
Pros: very powerful hardware, the display is mid-ground between indoor/outdoor Cons: not as easy to get add-ons like memory cards and modems
My co-workers at my office use the IPAQ for a special project, they're conducting surveys of local public parks. The display screen is advertised as being better suited for outdoor viewing which is great for us since we use it mostly outside in parks and...
Pros: Dazzling Color Screen, Coolest PDA on the market Cons: Battery Life
I bought this PDA three months ago. It is the best PDA I've ever had, and I've had a Palm V and a Newton. The only complaint is battery life. If you travel a lot get an extra AC Charger. I also bough the Flash RAM Expansion slot and a 128MB Flash Memory...
I did not (and will not) buy an IPAQ.
I decided this over several weeks of careful ponderings.
I have been using various palm pilots for the last 3 years.
I am going for a Jornada 548.
The Pocket PC vs. Palm is becoming the Mac vs. PC of the new millenium. I can appreciate the simplicity of the Palm but I love the new features of the Pocket PC: When I'm bored and waiting for something to happen, I can pull up an ebook to read...
Pros: Great color screen, it's a real computer. Cons: Becomes bulky if you add a Compact Flash or PC card sleeve.
The H3650 is IDENTICAL to the H3630. The only difference is the marketing channel - H3650 is sold via the web and H3630 is sold through bricks & mortar outlets. Therefore I will take the liberty of plagiarizing from my own H3630 review:
Compaq iPaq H3650 is NOT RECOMMENDED! Here is why!
This PDA is not recommended for the following reasons CONS:
-The harsh sounding external speaker and the lack of expansion sleeves avaiable.
- Slow to startup...
Pros: Fast processer, sleek and comfortable design. Cons: Battery life, No Built In CF Slot, Expensive
I used to have a Philips nino 300 when I got it I thought it was fast, running at 75mhz, since then I sold it moved up to the iPAQ and was there a difference, a BIG difference The iPAQ runs at 206MHZ and has 32 megs of ram (my nino had 8) and i have yet...
Pros: compact; same capabilities as your desktop! Cons: ???
OK. I work at Best Buy in Green Bay, WI, and Id have to say this has to be the coolest little gadget in the store! This thing has capabilities just like a computer and has got to by far be the best PC ever made. Palm size and travel size this unit...
Pros: Very cool, very fast Cons: very expensive, no compact flash port
The Compaq iPaq H3650 is unique in it's overall design, basically it's one bad a__ looking PDA, by far the best of the breed. There are basically two types of PDA users:
1. The Palm Pilot users who are basically blind to the other side. ...
Pros: Fab screen, versatility, good looks Cons: Pocket PC OS, size, battery life, size
Having switched from a Palm V due to a corporate fiat I was prepared to hate this thing. However, it does do lots of things fairly well. I can connect it to a Ethernet network and pickup my email. I can dial up and connect to my network. It reads MS...
Pros: Great programs that most people use. The handwriting recognizer is easier than Palm. Cons: Not many programs to download. It has a side light. No backlight.
I absolutely love my iPaq. The one thing I especially like, is the handwriting recognizer. Very easy, you can use cursive OR print! Comes with Excel, Word, & Notepad. They are programs that many people use in daily life. The info is very easy to...
Pros: Easy to read screen with brightness control, long battery life, easy to use and you don't have to learn to write new letters- it recognizes yours! Cons: Can't think of any-- but cost, but it's truly worth $500! And they are often hard to find.
That's right.. this little MONSTER MACHINE is silver, but it deserves the gold medal in this race! It has it all, and there is nothing I could want in a pocket pc that this Ipaq doesn't have..
Pros: Ease of use both with and without expansion packs Cons: a little bulky if you need to carry around the unit with expansion packs as only one will store on the unit itself.
After having test driven the HP Jornada and having problems with it locking up, I was very anxious to get my Compaq Ipaq 3650. I was not disappointed! The screen is so clear, and I have had not a single lock up! My CF expansion pack finally arrived...
Pros: Sleek Design, Bright screen, Super fast processor, price. Cons: Lack of built in expansion slots, Difficult to sync using USB.
I just received my iPaq last week and was shocked that I could find one available. I had been using an HP Jornada 548, and was very comfortable with it, but when I saw the iPaq, I just had to have one. First, I was very impressed with it's sleek...
Pros: Bright screen, speedy, COLOR Cons: Larger than most people say, apps cost
Since the iPaq is impossible to find (I drove 200 miles to get mine), my expectations were pretty high. Overall, they were satisfied, however, it's not perfect.
Pocket Word, Excel, Outlook work and synchronize well. Unfortunately, the synch...
Pros: Holds lots of data, easy and cheap to expand functionality Cons: activesync software is a bit buggy.
I have been working with and using PDA's since the HP omnigo. I have had an HP-PC, and omnigo, and palm pilot (III, IV). This is the best PDA i have ever used. Not only is the screen easy to read and bright, it is rechargable. No longer do I have to...
Ok, I'll start off with the cons just so I can get them out of the way. Yes, it is expensive and hard to get. With a price in the neighborhood of $500-$600, this is hardly a piece of equipment that you buy lightly. Second, it doesn't come with much...
Pros: Beautiful screen, colorful, moving images Cons: Battery life, contacts/appointments must be replaced with 3rd party software, no manual or help screens
I used a Palm VII for a year, then switched back to paper and pencil via Filofax. I bought the IPAQ because I can get wireless true internet access, but am still waiting for Compaq to actually ship what I need to do so. Regarding its basic functions,...
Pros: Great Color Screen, Amazing Capabilities, Good Audio Cons: Screen Scratches Easily, Very Breakable, Needs Expensive Components
If you listen to any opinion here, let it be this one. My high school was the only one in the country to do this. Mindsurf Technology gave us all Compaq iPaqs to test for the year. I learned a lot and also have some complaints. Here's the official prices...
Pros: Speed, functionality, looks, RAM, applications. Cons: Battery life, ROM, no built in CF or PCMCIA slot.
In general, this gadget is what all the other opinions have pointed out. Its almost perfect. I bought my 3650 on ebay and have totally been happy with it. The software is easy to use, syncronization is simple.
Pros: Fast, Handwriting Recognition, Sound w/Headphones Cons: Voice recording sound is horrible, Customer Service
I bought the iPaq yesterday to replace my 1997 Phillips Velo 1, so unlike Palm users, I have nothing recent to compare the iPaq to. I just read reviews, researched other Palm PC products and went for it.
Pros: many apps, lightweight, good battery life, good screen Cons: requires extra's to surf net or hold many files
Previously I had an IBM Workpad equivalent to a Palm 3. I needed more and of course wanted the latest/greatest. Well I believe I got it! This device does it all and I use it constantly for work, home and PTA business. I can transfer Word or Excel docs...
Pros: Color, speed, design.. Cons: uses WinCE which is crippled windows, lacking in drivers, IE is pathetically implemented..
We bought this and a IPAQnet card+service in order to support our moderately JavaScripted web based application. PIE claims to be Javascript 1.1 compliant but is nowhere NEAR THAT. Most of the JS 1.1 reference is completely missing.
Pros: Great Screen, Fast, Lots of Apps, Size Cons: No built in expansion, battery life
This is a sexy cutting edge PDA that everyone sees and wishes they had. Compaq did an excellent job designing the new iPaq series of handhelds. As much as I hate to admit it MS also did a great job with the PocketPC OS. I switched from a Palm based...
Pros: Transfers from computer easily, tons of software capabilities Cons: Not much memory makes buying memory cards a must, Compaq does not have the best record for customer service
I recently received the Ipaq as a birthday gift. I am a college student, and wanted an mp3 player mainly, but the Ipaq had so many other cool things that I couldn't pass up. It synchronizes itself with everything I have on my computer; word documents,...
I was so excited to get one of the few available units and loved playing with it for the two days it actually worked. It went bad on the third day, and I can get no satisfaction from Compaq customer service at all. It seems that many many units have...
Hey, pretty good for a something that could fit in your hand! Im my opinion it's better than Palm pilot, well the 5 series for sure. I am the proud owner of a new iPAQ. I have a few confessions to make before I get to the meat of this review. First, I...
Definitely don't like the limited memory expansion capability, but I also had severe quality problems with my Ipaq 3650. I have had to return my unit for repair a total of four times to date.
Pros: 1. Compatibility with Microsoft Windows,
2. Sleek Design, 3. Screen, 4. Support Cons: 1. CF and SD slot not included, 2. Low Memory, 3. No wireless
I bought an IPAQ 3635 which is the same except that it came with the Compact Flash Sleeve Free! I bought it in November 2001 when the Unit was going out of Production by Compaq for 300$ after their 150$ rebate. I think the unit is worth that much only....
Pros: a neat idea Cons: too bulky, hot, cumbersome
This personal organizer is essentially a great idea. The size is nice, the color screen is great, the backlighting is alright and the functions are okay. The one really great part is the ability to rewrite the hard disk in Linux form, which allows you to...
Pros: backlight, easy data entry, handwriting recognizer Cons: size
I really like this PDA, I had one of the old Casio's when they first came out in color and were running WIN CE. This one is a huge advancement. It is fully customizable and is actually a really good deal at the prices you can find it for. It can be...
Pros: At first, I was not thrilled...now I am. Cons: There are smaller, thinner, prettier ones now, but for the price...it is great!
Nicely made. Needs add on to expand...but I got a "slider" which is DO IT YOURSELF and found it to be great for use with the 128mb CF card I recovered from my prior clamshell unit. Got a modem for it which works fine for fax/email. Web pages are hard...
Pros: good outdoor reading, sleek design Cons: too expensive for what is made of and offered
U may disagree with me but I really think this device is overly-hyped in comparation to Casio Cassiopeia and others. For one thing, the screen colors are not that great but indeed are better readable under bright light. It does have a fast CPU(201 Mhz)...
Pros: Simply the Best PocketPC Cons: They can't roll them out quick enough.
We play with a lot of toys. But this one hasn't left my side. I read with it, work with it, stay informed and connected with it. I sleep with it and have it over for dinner. In all seriousness, I've had a few handhelds, and while this one has its...
Bought it over a year ago when the 3650 first came out. It is a dream. Love the idea of an onscreen keyboard or ability to write and have it turn into text that i can read. Being able to use word makes it extra valuable to one who gets in the mood to write--can take written articles and edit while waiting for a plane or traffic light. Haven't used it with Excel yet but if it works as well as word then I'll be happy. Like setting the auto off at different intervals depending on what I am doing. Once had it for 12 days with no chance to charge--the auto off helped. Have had it with no charge too long--called support--they helped me and it was up and running with my contacts, etc in a few minutes.
