  • Craftsman Belt Drive Garage Door Opener - Quieter is better

    May 14 '05
Pros: Quiet belt drive, good safety and security features
    Cons: pricey

Summary: Our previous Genie garage door opener was a chain drive type that made a god-awful racket when opening the metal door. There's something about metal grinding on metal that makes my teeth itch. So when we moved into our new house my wife persuaded me ...

  • Problem with Sears warrenty policy, this could be you !!!

    Mar 02 '10
Pros: Works great... when it works !!!
Cons:  Try to get warrenty replacement parts without getting ripped off...

Summary:  I recommended and installed this Belt Drive Garage Door Opener  unit for my neighbors, because I've owned one for approx. 5 years and had some good luck with these units. Unfortunatly their opener is only 9 mos. old ...

  • Craftsman Belt Drive Replaced Genie Screw Drive

    Nov 26 '05
Pros: Quiet, good price on sale, good range, Homelink compatible
Cons: None, and don't expect any as long as it continues to work

Summary: In my condo I purchased last year, my garage is below my second bedroom and my upstairs neighbors garage is below my master bedroom. The building is not very well insulated and sounds travel. I also work nights and sleep till 11 or noon. Yes, I realize ...

  • Not nearly the best model for garage door openers

    Nov 10 '05
Pros: It was quiet when it worked which was not often
Cons: Belt gets twisted--motor problems result. No faith in model to work reliably--switched to Genie

Summary: My wife and I purchased this model about two years ago. The Craftsman we bought had problems from the start and never worked correctly. After almost ten months, Sears refunded our money after the door stopped working for the 7th time. The lights on ...

  • You Can Install This Opener

    Nov 07 '05
Pros: Easy Installation, Great Features, Worth the price
Cons: Not as quiet as expected.

Summary: I literally just came in from cleaning up after installing this garage door opener. It was a breeze. I would say if you can read and have minimum wrenching capability...you can install this door opener. The instructions were great and applied for all ...

  • Nice when it works, junk though

    Oct 14 '10
Pros: Quiet, nice when it works.
Cons: Will start having problems after warranty expires.  Sear's warranty coverage is terrible.

Summary: After 1 year, intermittent closing problems.  Sears wants $65 to just look at it and then however much to fix it.  They told me that labor is only 90 days, and parts are 1 year.  This opener quit working just after the warranty expired.

  • Lots of Hidden Costs

    Jan 15 '08
Pros: Great opener, very quiet, easy to install.
Cons: Beware of the Sears screw-job; hidden costs abound

Summary: Great door opener, but Sears apparently feels compelled to screw the consumer at every turn. It was only after opening the box and taking inventory of the contents that the instructions mentioned that the opener in the box was only good for a 7 foot

  • Complete crap

    May 31 '07
Pros: Really quiet - especially since IT'S NOT WORKING!!!
    Cons: Doesn't work

Summary: Lasted one year. Just out of warranty and so Sears wants a service fee to look at it. I will pay another company twice as much if I need to just to not deal with Sears again. They clearly make inferior items designed to break just after the warranty

  • 1 year and it's done

    Feb 17 '07
Pros: Was Quiet when it worked.
    Cons: Did not last long.

Summary: Bought a year ago and it busted. The down travel is all screwed up. I called sears and they said they would send someone out to look at it for a show up fee of $70. I then had to pay the tech by the hour for labor. Only the parts are covered under

  • Aftermarket pieces needed cost $100

    Feb 07 '07
    Pros: It works, for now.
Cons: Support not included. Sales people should disclose cost upto $100.

Summary: I purchase a Craftsman opener 12 years ago for my roll-up metal garage door, and it finally broke. It performed really well! When I talked to the Sears sales person I told him our COMPLETE situation, including type of door and the model of the old unit.

  • Trolley assembly has broken on past two units

    Nov 08 '06
Pros: Quiet.. I guess so - but we have a detached garage.
    Cons: Severely flawed. Stay away.

Summary: The trolley assembly has broken on both of the past two units I've bought like this. I thought it was a fluke...Something is wrong. Craftsman used to make superior products. Now, I'm unimpressed. Quiet is great. Quiet and broken is a pain in the

  • Replacing it in less then 2 Years

    Sep 19 '06
Pros: None (It opens the door when you push the button but only for 1.5 years)
Cons: Lasted less then 2 years. Warranty is 1 year.

Summary: Had 2 of the Craftsman Belt Drive openers installed in Oct 2004, now in Sept 2006 one no longer works. Problems started with door partially opening or closing, opener lights would stay on after door was closed, then it stopped working entirely. Craftsman

  • Well Built quality Opener

    Aug 26 '06
    Pros: Reliable, quiet, and FAST
    Cons: none

Summary: I've been using the Craftsman Belt drive for awhile now and I am impressed with the quality of the product. I had a very loud 10 year old Genie that died. I don't have a room above my garage but enjoy the speed the door opens and the great range of the

  • Three years and Done

    Jul 18 '05
Pros: Initial positive reputation of Craftsman, belt drive implementation
Cons: Poor performance following warranty expiration

Summary: Have purchased many Craftsman products over the years due to quality reputation and performance. Purchased this opener for new house three years ago. Over last four months, stopped working intermittently, as if a short in the system. Had repairmen over
