Veteran L.A. electronica duo Crystal Method are all about making their work a practical, functional part of people's lives; they've composed music for video games and film/TV soundtracks in addition to their more auteurist outings. This notion came to its ultimate fruition with DRIVE. Originally created as a 45-minute workout mix of mostly new, original material, it first appeared as an iTunes exclusive download. As a conventional CD release, DRIVE--with its carefully arranged progression of beats and moods for maximum exercise efficiency--comes packaged with four additional bonus tracks boasting a variety of electronic styles outside the pragmatic purposes of the initial mix and hinting at the broader pleasures to be found on Crystal Method's more conventional releases. |
