Pros: Lovely archival prints best on matte paper… Cons: Features lacking for Mac users; frustrating to try to change black ink, type, cartridges…
I was already getting beautiful prints from my Canon S9000, so why did I buy an Epson 2200? Pigment inks offer an archival quality, man! Let's get this straight. I really love my Canon S9000 more than my Epson 2200. And if print longevity were ...
Pros: Archival ink, accurate color, very sharp prints, quiet, separate ink tanks. Well designed. Cons: Optimal settings not listed in manual.
Doesn't work with 3'rd party RIPs.
As a professional photographer, I can say that this is truly the printer I have been waiting for.
For years I have dreamt of the features offered in this exceptional printer. The inks are rated at 100 years of fade resistance. The ink...
Pros: Excellent prints on Matte, watercolor, fineart velvet and premium luster papers. Cons: Price may be a factor, not all purpose printer (but it's not made to be)
Let me first say I've had 4 Epson Printers (700, 1520 the 1280 and now the 2200) but I've also had the Olympus P-400 and now the HiTi 640PS. So I'm not averse to trying non-Epson products if I have a specific job to do. That being said, I'm a ...
Pros: Archival quality without the service bureau Cons: None
(Purchased at Calumet Photo in Hollywood for $699.)
I work with color negatives and slides that I've scanned with a Canon 2740 film scanner and manipulated in Photoshop. Previously, for important work, I would save the file as a TIFF and...
Pros: Easy to set up, fast and excellent print quality Cons: Cost, and not for the beginner
For the past few years I have been utilizing the HP Photosmart 1100. It worked well with my 1.6 megapixel camera, but once I purchased my first Digital SLR over the summer, it just was not up to the task. Well, it is tax time, and I was lucky enough ...
Pros: When you use it to print on Matte papers, the prints are stunning Cons: This printer is strictly for printing on Matte papers...other then that it's completely useless...
Actually based on the glowing reviews I've seen here and on other sites, I figured that the Epson 2200 was the last word on photo printers. Was I in for a shock...

Warning; Archival Inks are terrible for Glossy The Epson 2200 uses archival inks that supposedly will last for 80 years...but the inks sacrifice the overall quality of the glossy prints...creating a 'bronzing issue'...which is to say that the ...
Pros: Ease of use; excellent color; individually replaceable ink cartridges; archival ink Cons: inks not compatible with all papers
I have owned several high quality inkjet printers and the Epson Photo 2200 is by far the best. I simply love this printer. Because I am an artist, accurate color reproduction is critical for my work. With all my previous printers I would usually spend...
Pros: Beautiful Photos Cons: Bronzing (overrated as problem however.) Not a speed demon.
I have owned my Epson 2200 since March of '03 and have been compelled to write my own review after reading some of the 1 and 2 star reviews here on epinions. I feel like these reviews are just not justified. #1 - This a a photo printer. If you want a ...
Pros: Archival printing, photographic quality, excellent color fidelity, included roll paper handling, quiet, easy setup, warranty Cons: Optimum settings for color-managed work flow not obvious; slow printing for max quality
If you are like me, you spend a lot of time behind the camera, and a lot of time in front of the computer, producing images to match your vision of the world. After all that time, and expensive equipment, you want the ability to produce prints that...
Pros: Solidly built, very quiet Cons: Muted colors and poor blacks on Premimum glossy pape
I just purchased and Epson 2200 as an "upgrade" from my Epson 1280. My first difficulty was my large 11X17 pictures were very grainy and very poor quality. I found that if I turned off the "fast printing" function, the quality improved a lot, but the ...
Pros: Eye-popping images that can stop a conversation dead in it's tracks! Cons: The 2200 is in short supply- and 7 inks aren't cheap!
Let me get to the conlusion first: WOWZA!
I've been around photography for 35 years at a semi-professional level. I've done the whole darkroom thing as early as the 1960's. I've worked with custom color print labs and I've owned 3 other...
Pros: A significant and notable step up from previous Ink-Jet "Photo" printers." Cons: There are plenty!
I bought this printer only to test the "archival" quality paper and inks. I must admit, I was quite impressed with the Luster photo paper surface; it resembled the true photographic luster surface that I accustomed to, but with a tighter texture. I was...
Epson Has done It Again Come Out With Another Great Printer That Does The Job by pottymouth ,Jul 10 '04
Pros: The speed and the quality the easy to use functions. Easy to set up. Cons: Very expensive ink cartridges and Epson photo paper.. Wish the ink was more affordable.
I have owned quite a few epson printers and this one is by far the best.. They just keep out doing themselves. Thanks to this printer I will never have to go and have my pictures developed again.. Also my graphic design and cartoon drawings come out fantastic with the help of this printer.. Believe it is something i just wouldn't go with out..
Pros: Beautiful Matte Prints Cons: Not made for Glossy Prints
If you like printing on Matte paper this is the printer for you. If your preference if glossy, don't buy it. The Lack of gloss and the bronzing that turns up on the photo's doesn't make for a very nice glossy picture.
Pros: Looks impressive. Cons: Poor service from Epson.
I have yet to see a single picture printed with this printer. I bought it brand new and have had trouble ever since. The light magenta cartridge failed to print, and forget about trying to use the "print head clean" function because you will empty your print cartridges in no time. I called Epson and they think it's a defective cartridge; but they are in no hurry to get a replacement to me. Even printing text uses up the ink cartridges quickly. I know, the printer is for photos, but once in awhile I like to print text from the computer and not have to switch printers. Office Max and Office Depot do not stock the cartridges (in Santa Fe, NM anyway) so forget about getting a quick replacement. My $100 HP printer does better pictures. I am not being fair, because the printer has not printed a single picture, but for the money I paid I wanted one I could plug and go with.
Pros: Reasonable price considering the end results are amazing! Cons: Large size might give you trouble when finding a place to to place the printer.
I am a professional photographer, and as I made my way out of the darkroom and to digital, this proved to be an excellent printer for business. If you make sure to use Epson photo paper and inks I doubt you will have any doubts. The ability to print up to 13x19" and also using matte black ink for black and white photos.
If you want to produce high quality images for yourself or others I think this product, and other Epson printers are the way to go.
Pros: Large format and varied media. Cons: No negative thoughts in paradise.
Best printer ever made. Excellent for photo art. If you want pictures, any printer will do. If you want a masterpiece with every photo, this is the printer.
After hearing of a few... by aussie_dt3000 ,Jan 17 '03
After hearing of a few raves about the 220 known in Australia as 2100 and after owning 2 epsons in the past I bought one
What attracted me this this printer was the high res DPI the large format and the ultra chrome inks , Ive seen good prints fade after a short time with the garden variety printers, ok for office work but not good enough for the serious photographer .
If you want the best pay the price! Its good to know that my prints will last past my lifetime and into archival history . There are a few bugbears with some software but overall a good tool .
The 2 things that didnt impress me was the slow printing time in best quality mode , But the most annoying thing is the paper rollers need to be redesigned as they leave marks on the finished prints (glossy paper) ((That nearly made me take the printer back))
Think of the best print... by dommi_dt3000 ,Dec 15 '02
Think of the best print that you have ever seen in your life - usually on the wall of a showroom, - that´s what comes out of this printer - practically straight out of the box.
For serious black and white enthusiasts the only printer worth considering (other than it´s big brothers). Combine it with a 4000dpi scanner and the darkroom is history (and good riddance)
A fantastic printer - as long as you read the instructions (hint!)
Note: Epson USA recommends their Premium Glossy Paper whereas other regions do not. To avoid bronzing ignore Epson USA and use the papers recommended by the other Epson Regions.
I've tried the printer using all the available interfaces, Parallel, USB and Firewire. All worked 1st time, but Parallel slower than the others.
Paper Cutter a boon when using roll-paper.
Best quality seems to be using Matte papers, in particular Archival (Enhanced) Matte from Epson.
In conclusion: This may well be the best 'affordable' printer on the market at the moment, but it doesn't suffer fools gladly and requires a modicum of effort to get the best from it.
ps Stock up on Light Magenta and Light Cyan.
Enjoy!
This printer just about has... by egale_dt3000 ,Nov 04 '02
This printer just about has it all. Photos are brilliant. Using Epson's Professional or Premium papers or a variety of papers which are pigment ink compatible give results as good as printer. Plus, these prints don't fade. The average print will last from 40 to 80 years whereas the standard print from a dye based printer, printed on glossy paper, will last from a few weeks to a few months before fading will occur.
This printer also has separate ink tanks so there is no more throwing away an entire cartridge because you used up one color.
It is a big printer. There are attachements for roll paper and an automatic paper cutter. You need a good size area to work with this especially if you use the attachements.
All in all, it is a great printer. It may not be speed demon, but it is ok. I would rather wait a few minutes for a print that will last than get a print quickly that will fade as quickly as it printed.
It is the best photo... by nobody_dt3000 ,Nov 05 '02
It is the best photo printer that I've used. I am a professional photographer who usually prints 8 X 10 and sometimes 13 X 19 size portraits. I use Enchanced Matt paper and Luster paper for my pictures. The image quality, if not better, is at par with that of Epson 1280. But if you want your prints to last, close your eyes and pick up the 2200 (if you can find it).
