Pros: Nice, easily navigable web site. Pay online works great.
Cons: Navigation requires an extra screen or two, but no big deal
Thanks to the category lead, Mrisch, for adding this to the epinions database. Ive been with GMAC Mortgage, since very soon after my last refinance, which was a 15 year fixed rate mortgage at 5 3/8 percent with no points, done in October 2002. I ...
Pros: The customer service staff can handle pretty tough attitudes. Cons: GMAC Mortgage will not change your automatic payment. Also, the website information may be outdated.
I opened a mortgage with Quicken Loans in February of 2004. In October of 2004, they sold the loan to GMAC. Everything went relatively well at first. The website requires a bit more clicking around than I like, but now that I am a neophyte webmaster, ...
Pros: None! None, none, none, none! Cons: Inept, rude. Did I mention inept?
I have two mortgages (two houses) with GMAC. On my primary home, they approved me for 100% financing -- no problem there, but they neglected to include the mortgage insurance in my original payments. I didn't notice it was missing. A year later, ...
Pros: Predictably horrible Cons: Liars, deceivers, con artists
When we thought about buying the family home and keeping it in the family (80 years now), we looked carefully at our options to make sure that we were making a sound investment. However, our mortgage company sold our loan to GMAC, and we immediately ...
Pros: Please choose Countrywide instead for your mortgage Cons: Deplorable ethics and customer service.
I recently had an experience that confirmed to me that GMAC offers miserable customer service and deplorable business ethics. After decades of maintaining a perfect payment record on my mortgage, a terrible bank error (a technical error in automated ...
Pros: Can't think of any. Cons: Ineffectual and rude customer service whose motto must be "the company is always right."
We have been long time customers of GMAC Mortgage and everything was fine until a bank error caused us to deal with their "customer care" unit. I don't recall ever being late with a monthly payment during years of association. The problem started when ...
Pros: Nothing good to say about them Cons: Foreign customer service, greedy and predatory, companywide incompetence
Refinanced my farm last October with a broker, was sold to GMAC a month later (sale of loan was no big deal- it happens all the time), then the problems began. My wife forgot to pay the homeowner's insurance in November, got a call from agent three days ...
Pros: Very nice, helpful, I was able to get pre-approved for a motgage by phone Cons: I was not fully informed of what I should expect.
I recently started looking into the possibility of buying a home. I am a first-time homebuyer so everything is scary and exciting at the same time! I went to a few different places to get pre-approved for a mortgage, one of which was GMAC. I got the ...
Pros: Good website/automatic payment system. Cons: Poor Customer Service. Customer service will lie to get you off the phone.
I refinanced thru a mortgage broker 3 years ago. Then it was sold to GMAC - no problems until August 2007. The measure of a company is how it deals with problems - which is where GMAC gets a 1 out of 5 in my book. An escrow payment for real estate ...
Pros: NONE Cons: HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE-THEY WANT YOU TO DEFAULT AND TAKE YOUR MONEY
I have never had a problem with a mortgage company and HAD excellent credit. I am not too sure now as GMAC has filed against my credit twice and put the loan in default. I made the original payments on time. I had my identity stolen and stopped bank ...
Pros: NONE. ZERO. ZIP. NADA. Cons: UNPROFESSIONAL, UNETHICAL, DON'T CARE ABOUT CUSTOMERS
GMAC Mortgage is supposedly discontinuing their construction lending program. That's a good thing since they do/did a HORRIBLE job of it. I had to beg, threaten and escalate draw requests to a higher level to get money for my builder. And their ...
Pros: Extremly honest, fair, and fast. Cons: Nothing. Unbelievable!
Laura Good is probably one of the most honest bankers/brokers I have ever met! We called in on ad we saw off of my wife's blog, and after talking with Laura for about 5 minutes - I could tell we wanted to do business with her. My instinct told me she was ...
Pros: None Cons: Lost paper work, had to send numerous times, horrible communication
I got my mortgage loan through GMAC Mortgage. The day of my closing they came up with three documents that needed to be filled out by my builder and requested the blueprints to be overnighted. After numerous attempts at contacting them and them telling me that everything was in line, this all came up at the time I was supposed to be closing. I am still waiting to hear when I will close, but from my experience I WOULD NOT recommend them!
My main problem with GMAC is how they handle paying my taxes. They require taxes and insurance be escrowed. In 2007,they lost my school tax bill and paid it late after I sent them my copy. In 2008, they paid my school taxes TWICE resulting in an escrow shortgage that made my payment alot higher than it should be. It has been six months and they still haven't gottten MY $$$ back. I have requested a call from a supervisor and they refuse. I will probably have to pay a lawyer to get my $1800 back.
Pros: The customer service people are friendly and speak English. Cons: Questionable competence.
My wife and I got a 6-month CD to save for a vacation. Opening the account was unduly difficult. It took them 2 months to debit our checking account of the funds (the first time I can recall a bank taking this long). The reason is that one of their people entered the wrong routing number. They claimed to have left voice mails regarding this problem. There were, in fact, garbled incomprehensible messages in our in box. The caller ID display simply read "Cellular Call". Nothing to indicate that it came from GMAC.
When the problem was finally corrected, the CD is to mature on the eve of our departure. The funds are to be direct deposited into our checking account. We'll see if that happens in a timely manner.
