Garmin iQue 3600 - The Traveler's Dream PDA

by soupcraze Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Feb 12 '04
Pros: Oh my...!
Cons: Not at this price!
The Garmin iQue 3600 is quite different compared to a lot of PDA's on the market. Garmin is a very respectable brand that makes GPS systems, and so the Garmin iQue 3600 is their introduction into the PDA/GPS convergence. I managed to see ...

Garmin iQue 3600 PDA/GPS with Palm 5 OS

by jchiles , Sep 26 '03
Pros: Huge screen, great GPS with voice prompts, great organizer, SD card, voice recorder.
Cons: Poor quality speaker, moderate battery life, no Palm 4-way navigation button (this has a 2-way).
The iQue 3600 is Garmin's venture into the PDA world. It combines the convenience of a PDA and GPS into one neat little gadget. The technical details, per Garmin, are as follows: * 200 MHz processor powering Palm OS 5 * Garmin GPS and mapping s ...

The bases were loaded and Garmin hit a home run with this one!

by donc13 , Nov 05 '03
Pros: Fantastic integration between the PDA and GPS. Tons of features!
Cons: Not much in the way of negatives, read the review.
It was the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, down by 3 and the bases are loaded. Up steps Garmin and hits a home run! I mean it. This PDA/GPS combination is the neatest thing since sliced bread! Its list of features is as impressive as is its execution of th ...

Can it really do all that?

by lovesgagets , Dec 30 '03
Pros: Performances as good (if not better than the 2610), excellent PDA performance, Price, SIZE!
Cons: Needs additional accessories (memory cards, mounting unit) to be fully functional in vehicle.
The Garmin iQue 3600 is the world's first integrated PDA/GPS combo system. I purchased it as a Christmas gift to myself this year. After looking and looking for the "perfect GPS unit" for my vehicle, I was introduced to the iQue. I drive a Mini Cooper ...

Garmin iQue 3600 - a cool, but expensive gizmo

by msenin , Nov 03 '03
Pros: Quality product, easy to use, color, audible alerts, hi-res screen, organizer/GPS receiver and software.
Cons: Price, battery life.
With hi-res color screen, sound, Palm OS 5, 200 MHz ARM CPU and 32MB of RAM, Garmin iQue 3600 can be named the Ferrari of Palm OS-based PDAs... With the Ferrari price tag though. Palm OS 5-based organizer: It is very easy to use, even for those ...

Garmin IQue 3600 "never-get-lost"

by mmyersepinions , Jan 17 '04
Pros: Palm's OS, all-in-one unit, easy to use and GPS works well.
Cons: Expensive, accessories are required, needs more memory.
After pouring over many different Palms, (T2, T3) and various Pocket PCs, I decided to try the Garmin IQue 3600 PDA using Palm 5.1 OS. I originally was looking to purchase a separate GPS system for the PDA but after looking at the alternatives I decided ...

Great Gadget

by zeduk , Oct 06 '03
Pros: small great PDA and GPS in one unit
Cons: Not for hikers You'll need an SD card
I have had mine for a few days and already don't know how I lived without it. I had a GPS before and while it could find an address and show it's location I still had to plot my own route. The Garmin gives turn by turn directions on screen and spoke ...

Not a gadget, this is a useful tool!

by omnibus , Oct 25 '03
Pros: A shirt pocket sized wonder and it only weighs 5 ounces.
Cons: Battery life for some applications is short.
One can only imagine the brainstorming sessions that must have occured in the hallowed halls of Garmin Inc, near Kansas City. "Do we keep it pocket sized, or supply a large and bulky rechargable battery so that full brightness can be used indefinitely" ...

by eppi60 , Nov 05 '03
Pros: Excellent Product, Very compact, User friendly

I'm on my 2nd unit- same problem. Avoid this like the plague.

by adjmcloon , Sep 18 '03
Pros: Great ideas, but it's of no use if it won't hold my data!
Cons: Shouldn't have released this unit until the bugs were worked out.
When I first saw the previews of the Ique online, I was really excited to see all of the features. I waited patiently for a few months and finally got one of the first units shipped out in early August. Everything seemed fine for the first day, but afte ...

You have to be dumb to get lost with this thing.

by IGITMAN , Oct 04 '04
Pros: Convenience. You will never get lost again.
Cons: Battery life isn't great. Relatively expensive. Acquiring sattelites can take some time.
The Garmin iQue 3600 is not my first PDA. I've had quite a few. This one is by far the best, as it is packed with incredible features. The ability to have something that fits in your hand that will get you within a couple of feet of where you are trying ...

Fantastic
by digitalmaniac ,May 03 '04
Pros: looks great, screen resolution fantastic, handy navigation software.
Cons: communication with mapsource too elementary, no live tracking with laptop.
paying 1200 AUS dollars means a steep climb for us aussies but, well worth the expense. ergonomically excellent and the screen resolution is top notch. i would have liked to see more integration with mapsource though. the waypoint transfer between the unit and mapsource could have been worked out prior to release. i also find the fact that the unit cannot live track with your laptop a bit on the elementary side of technology for the climate but, all in all a great piece of kit and a good buy for thoise techno junkies out there.

Garmin iQue 3600 - Too good to be true?
by jwyrick ,Nov 23 '03
Pros: Small, nice color display
Cons: Unreliable
Since I travel for a living, I thought the Garmin iQue 3600 would be the answer to my navigation problems. It was small enough to carry in my computer bag and it also might be handy as a PDA. Feeling I could finally justify paying over $500 out of my own pocket, I purchased one.

When it arrived I tried it out and it navigated me across town very well. I could barely wait until the next week for my trip to Denver.

I loaned it to my wife to drive across state that weekend. She reported that it never did find any satellites.

I took it to Denver and it was "seeking satellites" during the whole trip even thought it was a sunny and cloudless day. Thank God for Mapquest.

It was a very expensive PDA that worked great for playing games, but I returned the device for a full refund.

I'm hopefull that they will come out with a reliable unit in the future.

unreliable
by trashcollector ,Jan 06 '04
Pros: good user interface. Fast. Great mapping software. Great color display.
Cons: resets without warning. Ultimately failed. Incomplete manual. Several Garmin calls needed to get fully functional.
I received a Garmin iQue 3600 for Christmas. While it worked, the performance as great. The voice direction software works superb, even recalculating a route when a wrong turn was made.

As a PDA, it works well. I downloaded and installed palm software without problem.

After 10 days of great operation, the GPS portion of the unit failed to acquire satellites. It is going back to Costco today for full refund. I've mail ordered another from Costco. I hope the second units lasts more than 10 days.
