Pros: large bright blue LED display, programmable personal messages, clock and calendar, Caller ID, battery backup Cons: Caller ID requires subscription through your telephone service
It is interesting that Sharper Image calls this product the Info Globe Scrolling LED Message Center with Caller ID. No where in the title does it state that it is a clock and calendar ... a feature I love! Description This is a ...
Pros: A great conversation piece, that actually displays useful information. Cons: The mechanical noise is distracting and limits its placement.
This product has been out for some time and if you read the other reviews, it has a rating all the way from great to terrible. However, the concept is so interesting that when Radio Shack had a sale on them, I decided to buy one. The Good As ...
Pros: I always know who is calling. Cons: You must have Caller ID from your phone company.
To start with, I have purchased two of these ID Globes because I love the convenience so much. I am getting older and, if I don't have my eyeglasses on, I am unable to see who is calling on my cordless phone. Now I have this globe set up across the room ...
Pros: Don't have to rush to find your cordless/caller id phone. just look at InfoGlobe. Cons: (Only if it's a problem for you) EVERYONE can see who's calling your house.
I bought the InfoGlobe at a Discovery store, as it was displayed as soon as you walked in the door. I couldn't resist buying it. When I got it home and did the simple plug up to the phone and phone jack it was wonderful. I think the $50 price is a ...
Pros: Good to see who is calling and screen them out before answering the phone. Cons: Apparently lots have trouble with the rocker arm, but it is a 2 minute fix
We have 4 of these and are looking for more. The first one was orange on black which is our favorite. We bought it at the Discovery Store (out of business) Then we bought 2 more blue on black globes at Sharper Image (out of business). The ...
Pros: Looks awesome, Fun to watch, Lots of fun features, Greetings, conversation piece Cons: humming noise, Guests watching the caller ID instead of paying attention to you.
This product is a fun gadget! Once you start watching it its hard to keep your eyes away from it. Its almost magical how those words spin around the globe and other effects that are programmed into it. It has a lot more features than I thought it ...
Pros: It's Large display to see caller ID, date, time and messages from accross the room. Cons: It's loud, not well made, hard to setup, and not worth $50.00.
I bought the Olympia InfoGlobe Digital Caller ID as a gift for my wife (Christmas, 2003), and we were both disappointed in this product for the following reasons: It's hard to figure out how to set it up. There is no way you can just press a button ...
Pros: Nice. Cons: I´m expecting to open it again in three months.
It is a very nice clock, I installed in my room, the first days everybody that cames into my room stays with the clock, not with me, after a couple of weeks the spinning noise started to be louder and louder, too loud that I had to take it away from my room because we could not sleep, I move it to my office and about 2 months later stopped working, the thing spins but no numbers on it, I´m Electronic Engineer so I dared to open it, it is really hard to do it because the transparent blue cover holds everything together with plastic nails, even if you loose the four below screws (two of them covered by the rubbers), with my Swiss knife I could open it without mayor damage. there are few serviceable parts inside, but the only one was the problem, the design uses a tiny brush system to transfer 12 volts to the rotating plate, this brushes became loose and dirt, I cleaned and adjusted, and now the clock is working again. and the spinning noise became to normal again as new!
Infoglobe CID/clock display by armorris ,Nov 18 '05
Pros: Easy to see from any angle. Cons: Slight vibration and noise. Poorly written owner's manual.
I like the Infoglobe. I bought mine at Radio Shack in mid 2005. I have seen complaints about an earlier version, but I like mine. On a solid oak end table, it makes a faint hum. The version I have has a big chunk of iron in it to weight it down, reducing vibration and noise.
The complaint I read that the owner's manual is poorly written is valid. That seems to be the problem with almost everything made in China.
Someone on this forum complained that his unit got fried in a power surge. I have a later version. I live in Florida, where lightning and power surges and outages are common. I'm not using a surge protector and mine has not failed yet. I've reverse engineered it and it has regulated internal power and is as well protected from surges as almost any other consumer product.
Neat but overpriced, does not last by richmolnar ,Dec 01 '07
Pros: Visible from across the room. Love the various greetings. Cons: Overpriced. Lasted only a few months.
I really loved this little gizmo, but it only lasted for a few months. Then it just went dark. When I unplug it and plug it back in, it displays the message, "EPROM ERROR", then it works for a few minutes and goes dark again.
Pros: Wonderful design and concept. Great idea! Cons: Everyone of the readouts stops working within 3 months. Otherwise I'd love them.
I have purchased no less than 10 of these and every one of them stopped
working within three months. I love the concept and the infoglobe when
they work and would pay twice the price for a unit that kept working.
I called the company and was told that they are no longer making them.
Why are so many for sale? If you can fix them so that they don't stop reading
out I will happily be a customer again.
Pros: Looks really cool when it works. Nice nightlight. Cons: Inconsistent performance.
I bought three of them because I wanted a Caller ID and this one looked really cool and I thought my family would like one, too. So, I bought one for my husband's sister, one for my brother, and one for me. Theirs both work fine, but mine started with problems after I had it about a year. The buzzing/humming noise started first, so we put the device on a foam pad, which helped somewhat. Then the text began goofing up, like it's speaking in tongues. For example, the date will display as "EanU8ry 41, r 007" or show a caller ID of "Kinn dy SpicE Ctr" when my husband calls the house from his office. The phone numbers in the Caller ID are just as garbled and are totally unreliable. When we recently came home from vacation and turned it back on, it made such loud vibrating noises and the text was so unreadable that I'd finally had enough and pulled the plug on it for good.
The Info Globe's loud buzzing will make you want to unplug it. by my_critique ,Sep 10 '06
Pros: It's an eye-catching conversation piece ~ nice if you like high-tech gadgets. Cons: The loud buzzing will drive you to distraction. The noise makes it hard to concentrate.
We stopped using our Info Globe because it was so noisy you could hear the buzzing in the next room.
Pros: quicker ID of call coming in, looks COOL! A great gift to GET OR give. Cons: Manual needs pictures or more information, humming sound Bigger FAQ website would be helpful.
I got this as a gift.
And it is true (to me) that the manual isn't that great on helping you set up the system.
I read every word in the manual to find out:
1) Am I supposed to keep it on all the time?
2) When is it expected that the moving pieces will break down?
3) How much electricity does it use?
4) Is there a way to have it come on only when there is a phone call coming in?
It is "version 1" of a product - it seems - and the manufacturer could use constructive criticism to improve it.
I love not having to run over to the ID box that I have and see who it is calling.
