Pros: Original, nice production design, good performances Cons: Use of deux ex machina
Summary: I am not a big fan of the horror genre because most of its movies are kind of dumb, but I think Hostel is one of the best. This movie is a morality play about behavior and consequences taken to the extreme. It’s completely original, well-planned, ... read more

Pros: Original concept is good. Cons: Character development is poor and characters are not likeable enough to really get upset about.
Summary: General I thought the premise for this movie was interesting. The acting was decent. The movie had some shocking scenes. Was it scary one might ask....No, not so much. Was it shocking or disturbing. Yes, but not so much that you would ... read more

Pros: Well acted, interesting story, good music Cons: Not scary
Summary: When Hostel came out in theaters I never really wanted to see it. Even when it came out on Dvd I never really wanted to see it. Then for some reason I had an interest in seeing it. I dont really know why but I guess it was because there were so many ... read more

Pros: The first half built up tension nice. The technical stuff was well done. Cons: Extremely disturbing. Serves no purpose other than to show people suffering. Not at all scary.
Summary: Hostel always seemed like a pointless gorefest that was probably too extreme for me. I remember the trailer for Hostel creeped and grossed me out more than the movie it preceded in theatres, Saw 2. The whole movie seemed like an excuse to show people ... read more

Pros: Interesting, traffic accident type appeal, good acting and camera work. Cons: Grim, film is more unsettling than scary.
Summary: A trend in horror films has emerged out of the slasher films of the 80's and 90's. Torture and slow death have replaced the sudden shocking and violent deaths previously in vogue from the likes of Michael Meyers, Jason and Freddy Kruger. But the absolute ... read more

Summary: “Terrible referred to truly horrifying things like the movie Showgirls or giant squid-things that leave you sincerely wondering how they could come into being on the earth as we know it.” This is a quote from John McWhorter’s book The ... read more

Pros: The gore scenes is the only thing good making this film watchable, Jay Hernandez. Cons: Movie is so damn slow to get to the point, weak plot, wasn't scary.
Summary: I was very excited when this film was released. The previews looked really good; it had a great "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" look to it with a gruesome and disgusting tone with it. It looked almost brilliant and could be one of the most great horror films ... read more

Pros: gory! not an average slasher, cool story. Cons: the hostel and occupants are not authentic for the region.
Summary: I was in the military for 8 years and was stationed in places that had hostels or were just a train ride away, including the Ukraine. The hostels in this movie are false. Hostels are usually very run down. There are rats and mice in the rooms. There are ... read more

Pros: Gore, acting, plot and directing. Cons: It wasn't too scary....
Summary: I didnt get a chance to see this in theaters so I bought it. I had very hi expectations because Quinton Tarantino presents it and I love his work. I also love horror movies so I thought this would be one of the best movies ever. I was wrong it ... read more

Pros: - Cons: predictable, a bit gory
Summary: I am someone who likes to watch a good film but in particular I do like a horror movie if done successfully. I don't know what it is maybe it's the fear that I like or maybe I'm just a sick person but I doubt it. I hate the usual films with teenagers ... read more

Pros: The effects were fun…oh and it ended. Cons: The plot is too slow to start and too quick to finish.
Summary: Please take note: There may be minor spoilers in this review. American horror does not exactly have a great reputation. Since Hitchcock it has pretty much been a downward spiral with a few notable exceptions. "Hostel" by Eli Roth is certainly ... read more

Pros: Somewhat crazy idea... previews showed all the good bits. Cons: Weak storyline, weak acting, terrible background research... Weak!
Summary: Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino should do a little bit more research before they try to situate a movie into a certain country. John Woo for instance prides himself that when you watch one of his movies, you can count bullets and know someone didn't just ... read more

Pros: intriguing plot, gore effects Cons: climax
Summary: When he's not splashing his name allover his own movies, Quentin Tarantino keeps busy by recommending and "presenting" others. And he's not afraid of losing credibility. According to the commercials Tarantino called "Wolf Creek" one of the scariest ... read more

Pros: gore factor, "eye candy" Cons: substandard plot, terrible pacing, lack of suspense, poor characterization, poor acting, pointlessness, indifference for story
Summary: Yes, I heard "Hostel" sucked. I heard it was nothing more than some softcore porn at first, a wickedly gruesome gorefest, not to mention utterly bereft of plot and sensibility. I heard it was a waste of money. Maybe I'm lucky because I have a ... read more
