Pros: inexpensive and lightweight, good quality picture Cons: No case, warranty not very good
My wife purchased this DVD player in December of 04 from Best buy. She got this for me for Christmas. Every time I would walk by one of these I would stop and comment how cool it would be to have one of these. It was not very expensive This model comes ...

Pros: Very sturdy, flexible and reliable. Cons: Not a great picture.
My husband is an insomniac. Weve tried all sorts of things to get him to sleep, but the only thing that seems to work is watching TV. He used to fall asleep on the couch and then, when he woke up, hed shut everything off and come to bed. Of ...

Pros: GREAT price, sleek design, easy to use Cons: None!
I've never been good with electronics... I've never known exactly how to work a VCR, how to fix a TV when the screen goes blurry, and I'm a wreck when it comes to untangling wires and extension cords. So let me tell you right now that the only reason I ...

Pros: Good player, serves purpose well. Battery lasts and has large screen. Cons: Hard to see screen at angles, not kid proof, sound output is weak in airplanes.
This DVD player will serve it's purpose well for adults or even teens, but it isn't durable enough for kids. Also, the battery pack does not allow the players screen to open completely flat so, you can't use the mounting case for the back of the head ...

Garbage
by lralph55 ,Jul 09 '08
Pros: Cheap Cons: Simple stopped functioning for no reason. No abuse or neglect took place.
Item broke after 3 uses. A waste of a $100.00. Don't waste your money on this item! We used the item on two trips one of which was the trip home from the store and the second was for vacation and the kids watched dvd's. The item worked for the car ride down and quit before we could ever use it a third time.

I got Model IS-PD040922
by kuaiyu ,Aug 01 '05
Pros: Sound, picture, portability, size, construction are all good. Has a very quiet motor. Cons: No Audio/Visual cable for hook-up to a large TV. Big Deal, I already had one.
One slick little player.
I must have read close to 50 or more reviews on different brands and models. After returning 3 different "other" brands, I decided to try this brand. I like the battery, it doesn't warm up the whole unit. After the initial charging of the battery I ran a DVD, then a CD until it was run out. It lasted close to 4 hours non-stop. It easily hooks up to a large TV, it runs well, it was gotten for traveling, it worked well off the car adapter as well as AC. For the price, it is durable, compact, that does what I wanted it for. I am pleased, but it is only a machine and made by man, subject to defects and breaking. I recommend purchasing the product, test it out in all areas you plan to use it. If it doesn't meet your approval return it. I did that with 3 "other" brands, which were reviewed as being "Very good" yet cost a lot more.

Impressed with quality and value!
by zoebower32 ,Feb 22 '06
Pros: Sound quality, picture quality, battery life, remote control, setup menu, buttons on player Cons: Didn't come with a case...that is it for now!
I purchased this DVD player last weekend. I had done some research on these types of portable players and really couldn't find one that stood out to me. I had tried the Polaroid brand and when I got it home the captioning wouldn't turn off. I had to take it back. I also purchased a Cyberhome brand and after an hour of play it froze. So, I went with Insignia after the salesperson at Best Buy assured me it was a reputable name. It is a brand exclusive to Best Buy. So far, I have been happy with it. The sound is awesome compared to the others mentioned above and the battery life is long enough to watch one movie, at least. I had no problems with the remote control at all. The buttons were easy to navigate and worked well for me. I would recommend this brand to my family and friends. So far, so good!

I purchased this product at Best Buy for aprox. 100$ and got a 20$ rebate. After 1 time using it, it died. The company refused to fix the product because I "left the country" Buy a lottery ticket, its a better investment!

It just died...
by lulutripp ,Mar 26 '07
Pros: Great picture, affordable price. Cons: Died suddenly with no explanation.
I bought my Insignia portable DVD player in November with the limited warranty (90 days). I was so happy with it, had no problems at all and watched a ton of movies on it.
Then, this morning, I went to plug it in and nothing happened. I tried everything, but it's just dead. My 90 days are up and thus, I wasted $108 that I will never see again. Plus, it's just so sad not to be able to watch movies in my room anymore. I have no idea what happened to it. I've been incredibly gentle with it, storing it in cool places where it didn't get any kind of jolts or jarring. I've never dropped it. I just don't know what happened...

Bad Item, Try a Brand Name
by memoryking ,Dec 05 '05
Pros: none Cons: The whole thing was a con.
I bought this about 5 months ago.
It is very unreliable and only plays dvds when it feels like it. I will NEVER purchase an insignia product again.
I'm out $100.

Stay Away
by klfarley ,Aug 10 '05
Pros: None Cons: Cheap and unreliable
After about four months of use, player stops playing and restarts the DVD if the cover over the DVD is touched. I called Best Buy where I bought it and they told me to call Insignia. I called Insignia and they said it was normal. I looked at other units and they did not do this. My other player is fine. So now I have a useless player and Insignia says that there is not a problem with it.
I would NOT buy this DVD player. Buy a name brand. It will have a better warranty and a company that will STAND behind their product.

DO NOT BUY - TOTAL GARBAGE
by buffibr ,Jun 08 '06
Pros: Nothing Cons: Quits working for no reason at all, short 90-day warranty, mfg refusal for replacement.
My son received one of these portable DVD players for his birthday from Grandma. We only used it FOUR times before it quit working. I took extreme care to ensure it was protected from damage, temperature, elements, etc. Upon returning it to Best Buy they informed me this machine only has a 90-day warranty and since I Grandma didn't buy the extended warranty there wasn't anything they could do. Maybe they should know that this brand has issues of quitting for now reason at all and recommend a better brand to customers or at the very least push the extended warranty on this item.
I will NEVER buy another Insignia product again.

Pretty Awesome
by dashiznit741 ,Aug 06 '05
Pros: Great screen, great sound, great price Cons: DVD player motor can be loud
I love this DVD player. The screen is nice, vivid and bright, and there are a lot of color and brightness settings for it. It plays my JPEG cds`, music cds`, and dvds` no problem. I only have two complaints. 1. sometimes the remote isn`t very responsive, but thats okay since you are at the most 5 feet away from the unit. 2. The motor is kinda loud. I havn`t tested other portable dvd players in the loudness-of-the-motor department, but this one is loud enough to notice, but not loud enough to be taken out of the movie experience.(just turn the volume up a little, you won`t notice) This is a great portable dvd player especially for the price. I completely reccomend this product!

Bargain = Bad Product
by erickrapp ,Feb 18 '06
Pros: wide screen. Cons: no picture/sound even though the power is on and the dvd is spinning.
I was told by the guy at Best Buy that Insignia made by Best Buy and that the quality is as good as any name brand player. The first time I used it the screen and sound went black. It hasn't worked since. I would not recommend this brand to anyone. I'm also weary of Best Buy now too.

DO NOT BUY DO NOT BUY DO NOT BUY
by dontgetburned ,May 13 '06
Pros: None Cons: No support from Mfg or Best Buy.
Extended warranty a "must",this is a CHEAP product
I used this product for less than 10hrs and it quit working. Std warranty 90days, unit purch in Nov. for Xmas present, Quit working 3/18. Was told "should have bought extended warranty". No repair possible, wrote letter to Best Buy and Insignia (they have same address). Was told "should have bought extended warranty". Others on web indicate identical problem. In my opinion this product is JUNK and is not supported by the mfg or Best Buy. If you compare it by price with others, make sure you add in the extended warranty, you'll need it.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT, SHOP AT FRY ELECTRONICS NOT BEST BUY
