Pros: acts as a light switch without negating timer setting, digital, comes on "near" set time Cons: absolutely, positively NONE
The Intermatic Heavy-Duty Digital 7 Day Wall Switch Timer SS7C first came into my life on a visit to the in-law's house. Like four tiny sentries they stood at shoulder height alongside the front door. Knowing my father-in-law's propensity...
Pros: Good idea. Cons: Unreliable, can't manually turn lights on/off when timer breaks.
I bought a new house 4 years ago, and bought 2 of these timers to control the outside porch and garage lights. The timers replaced wall switches mounted on an interior wall right inside the front door. The first pair of timers failed when the ...
Pros: knowledge of sunset/dawn times, convenience Cons: noise, difficult to read and program, reliability
I bought two of these two months ago. They are amazingly noisy---you can hear funny gear noises when they turn on and off---but I decided to overlook the noise because of their nice features. The knowledge of sunset and dawn times for every day of the ...
Pros: easy to use;
can be bought everywhere Cons: seems to be very sensitive;
not solid-state switch;
3 timers failed within 2 years
I'm using this type of timer for my front porch light and at the rear door. Unfortunately, this timer already failed three times. It seems that the little motor quits working since I no longer hear the switching noise. It is still amazing that they are ...
Pros: Its good while it works. Cons: It WILL fail, max 1-2 years you'll get out of this.
I bought 2 of these a few years ago. They worked fine for a while but not much more than a year after I got them, they started to show signs of "low battery", first one then a few months later the other. I tested the batteries and they were still fine. ...
I have had mine for over five years and have found it to be most reliable. I wish all products fulfilled its task flawlessly for years. I am a Network Engineer, better than an electrician and blessed with common sense. I had to respond to the ...
Pros: Reliable. Looks nice. On/Off override is perfect. Cons: Programming device is as bad as programming your VCR. Font too small
Our outside lights are controlled by this timer. When we moved in, I tried to reset it and discovered that not only was the text on the timer itself too small to read easily, the instructions were too! Hubby tried to reset it this spring and got it ...
Pros: Good idea
Works well
Cons: Seems like a design fault
Can't program without the manual
The timer itself is a good idea, and mine worked well for about 6 months. Then I got the dreaded NoOp message. I purchased another timer, but managed to fix the old timer fairly easily. First, you need to understand what causes the NoOp message. ...
Pros: Nice Industrial Design Clear instructions Worked for a short while Cons: Poor quality Short life Terrible product support by manufacturer
Against my better judgement, I purchased an Intermatic SS7 wall mounted digital lighting switch to control my driveway and front entry lights. I had made myself a promise never to purcahse intermatic again after having exprienced their unreliable and ...
Pros: Good idea, useful in theory. Cons: Poor design- uses a mechanical switch that has a likelihood of failure.
I had the same experience as many other writers- it worked fine for a time, then one day I woke up to find the lights hadn't turned off and a NO OP message to greet me. Out of frustration, I found that hitting the device on the side with a hammer would ...
Pros: Clever and useful programming options Cons: Will burn out prematurely if anything presses against the back of the unit.
We're on our fourth Intermatic timer. You install this timer in the wall, in place of an on-off switch. It has six little buttons to use to program when the switch turns on and off each day. It has a nice variety of programming options. We use it to ...
Pros: It works at first, lots of flexibility in programming, looks cool Cons: Expensive and unreliable
This product has many features and looks great, but is very unreliable. I got one of these and had it installed for about 2 months of light use and now it shows "inop" on the display and doesn't even work to manually turn the light on and off.
Intermatic has no way to contact them electronically, if you have a problem with your product you will have to send them snail mail or call their toll number and sit on hold during business hours.
This product is much too expensive and too much trouble to replace for it to be as unreliable as it is.
Pros: Accuracy, Timer Display, Flexible and Easy to Use and Install Cons: none
I already own three of these timers and I am planning on buying a fourth. I have never been disappointed with any of its features. I use them to control lights in different rooms with varying complexity in the schedules and when it is not being used as a timer it functions as a regular light switch.
Once you learn the programming techniques you'll find it easy to use. In addition the timer is accurate it turns on and off reliably at the scheduled time (there is a random function as well). The features that make it stand out compared to other timers are its size, reliability, ease of use, easy to install and accuracy. It displays the mode and the time which is more than most timers that have no display at all.
Worked great -- for a while by morriegasser ,Nov 02 '08
Pros: Great idea, in theory. Cons: Poor construction quality. Breaks too soon. Awful to program and hard to read.
When it works, it's wonderful. But both of mine failed within 3 years, with the "noop see instr" message. Somehow I got one to work again, but the other failed permanently. Very hard to read without a flashlight and challenging to program. Also has a quirk, not too serious: if you say "turn on at 6am and off at sunrise", a legitimate thing to do in winter, and then it becomes summer so that 6am is after sunrise, it turns on at 6am and stays on. For a thing as smart as this, it should understand that turn off time before turn on time should mean don't turn on. I want to add an update. After being unable to get mine to work, I bought another switch to replace it. Suddenly, it's working again! I'd say between the two of these that I own, they have gone into the "no-op" mode 10 times over the last few years, sometimes just once, and sometimes for days at a time, and then suddenly mysteriously fix themselves.
