  • Intermatic Digital 7-Day Wall Switch Timer Beats the Clock and My Memory

    Nov 05 '02
Pros: acts as a light switch without negating timer setting, digital, comes on "near" set time
    Cons: absolutely, positively NONE

Summary: The Intermatic Heavy-Duty Digital 7 Day Wall Switch Timer SS7C first came into my life on a visit to the in-law's house. Like four tiny sentries they stood at shoulder height alongside the front door. Knowing my father-in-law's propensity ... read more

  • Unreliable Intermatic Products

    Pros: Nice Industrial Design
    Clear instructions
    Worked for a short while
    Cons: Poor quality
    Short life
    Terrible product support by manufacturer

Summary: Against my better judgement, I purchased an Intermatic SS7 wall mounted digital lighting switch to control my driveway and front entry lights. I had made myself a promise never to purcahse intermatic again after having exprienced their unreliable and ... read more

  • Don't purchase unless you have better than 20_20 vision!

    Oct 20 '07
Pros: Reliable. Looks nice. On/Off override is perfect.
Cons: Programming device is as bad as programming your VCR. Font too small

Summary: Our outside lights are controlled by this timer. When we moved in, I tried to reset it and discovered that not only was the text on the timer itself too small to read easily, the instructions were too! Hubby tried to reset it this spring and got it ... read more

  • Guaranteed to quickly fail

    Mar 09 '07
Pros: Its good while it works.
Cons: It WILL fail, max 1-2 years you'll get out of this.

Summary: I bought 2 of these a few years ago. They worked fine for a while but not much more than a year after I got them, they started to show signs of "low battery", first one then a few months later the other. I tested the batteries and they were still fine. ... read more

  • Unreliable, bad failure mode

    Feb 12 '07
    Pros: Good idea.
Cons: Unreliable, can't manually turn lights on/off when timer breaks.

Summary: I bought a new house 4 years ago, and bought 2 of these timers to control the outside porch and garage lights. The timers replaced wall switches mounted on an interior wall right inside the front door. The first pair of timers failed when the ... read more

  • Fixed the dreaded NoOp fault

    Dec 23 '06
    Pros: Good idea Works well
Cons: Seems like a design fault Can't program without the manual

Summary: The timer itself is a good idea, and mine worked well for about 6 months. Then I got the dreaded NoOp message. I purchased another timer, but managed to fix the old timer fairly easily. First, you need to understand what causes the NoOp message. ... read more

  • A poor design, but the occasional rap with a hammer will get it working again

    Mar 24 '06
Pros: Good idea, useful in theory.
Cons: Poor design- uses a mechanical switch that has a likelihood of failure.

Summary: I had the same experience as many other writers- it worked fine for a time, then one day I woke up to find the lights hadn't turned off and a NO OP message to greet me. Out of frustration, I found that hitting the device on the side with a hammer would ... read more

  • Was Pessimistic, Now Optimistic

    Oct 09 '05
Pros: Clever and useful programming options
Cons: Will burn out prematurely if anything presses against the back of the unit.

Summary: We're on our fourth Intermatic timer. You install this timer in the wall, in place of an on-off switch. It has six little buttons to use to program when the switch turns on and off each day. It has a nice variety of programming options. We use it to ... read more

    Pros: TROUBLE FREE

Summary: I have had mine for over five years and have found it to be most reliable. I wish all products fulfilled its task flawlessly for years. I am a Network Engineer, better than an electrician and blessed with common sense. I had to respond to the ... read more

Pros: knowledge of sunset/dawn times, convenience
Cons: noise, difficult to read and program, reliability

Summary: I bought two of these two months ago. They are amazingly noisy---you can hear funny gear noises when they turn on and off---but I decided to overlook the noise because of their nice features. The knowledge of sunset and dawn times for every day of the ... read more

  • not reliable

    Aug 04 '03
Pros: easy to use; can be bought everywhere
Cons: seems to be very sensitive; not solid-state switch; 3 timers failed within 2 years

Summary: I'm using this type of timer for my front porch light and at the rear door. Unfortunately, this timer already failed three times. It seems that the little motor quits working since I no longer hear the switching noise. It is still amazing that they are ... read more

  • Intermatic timers still SUCK!!!

    Apr 05 '10
Pros: Nice functionality, if you can get it stay working for any period of time.
Cons: Fail constantly, use idiotic CR2 $10 photo batteries that get drained within 1-2 months.

Summary: It's really not clear how Intermatic has managed to stay in business.  And what is Home Depot doing still selling this garbage?Although I guess I am really the idiot since I decided to give them another chance.  What was I

  • Love it

    Oct 14 '09
    Pros: Worry free product.
Cons: 4 years and no problems.

Summary: I've had this product for 4 years.  I set it when I originally bought it and have not touched it since.  Outstanding!    I don't have to worry about turning lights off and wasting precious energy which helps our environment

  • Great timer

    Aug 24 '09
Pros: Automatically adjusts to the changing seasons.
Cons: Requires a battery which must be changed every 1-2 years. Tricky to set.

Summary: I installed one of these around 3.5 years ago and it has been working great. I get about 2 years out of the single AAA battery it uses and it turns my porch light on at dusk and off at dawn.
