The best thing to come out of Korea since... uhhh??

by ibosley , Mar 28 '07
Pros: features
Cons: craftsmanship, quality
The LG VX6100. My first real cell phone. I have had this little jewel for about two years now. Actually, I'm on my second one. The first was turned into insurance. Let me start by saying that this phone is very hardy. I have dropped it Lord knows ...

Great Phone

by jettaboy07 , Nov 14 '05
Pros: size, cool factor, big screen, features
Cons: battery life
I purchased this phone about four moths ago, and it has been great. Nothing has gone wrong with it, it has proven to be very durable over time. I drop my phones quite a bit, and my samsung a-650 couldnt put up with it, but this phone has no problem. ...

DON'T BUY THIS PHONE
by stpetetigger ,Nov 11 '06
Pros: Great camera, good reception for calls, voice activated for when you are driving
Cons: LEMON when it comes to where you charge the phone causing you to LOSE everything!!
I have used this model of cell phone for two years and am fed up with it now. TWICE I have had the spot where you charge the phone come out (along with part of the mother board) causing me to LOSE all the pics on there. US Cellular could not repair the phone, and said it was because I used a "non" LG Car Charger. So, I bought an LG car charger and go figure... it did the SAME thing with a brand new phone. Don't waste your time on this phone!!!

LG VX 6100
by suezee03 ,Oct 12 '05
Pros: CONS outweighs any pros this phone had.
Cons: DROPS CALLS...DROP CALLS...PIX-MESSAGING feature does not work after a while...
It was time for an upgrade so I wanted a cool looking phone. My husband picked this one and boy, do we hate it now. Our previous phone was a Samsung and we never had any problem with it, especially dropped calls, but with this LG VX6100, it is terrible. We can never talk on it for more than a few minutes before our calls get dropped. I know it's not the Verizon wireless network because our previous phones did not have this problem. This phone ALWAYS drops our calls. We live in the city. There shouldn't be a reason for our calls getting drop. Word of advice: DO NOT GET THIS PHONE!

One more thing. After a few months of having this phone, the pix-messaging feature won't even work anymore. I can still take pictures but I can't send it. I'm paying for the service too!

Stupid, stupid, phone.

This phone........UGH
by jonnyhongkong ,Feb 18 '07
Pros: Functional (Vibrate & high mode, etc.)
Cons: CHARGER CLIP FALLS OUT. I HATE IT.
This phone has proved to be very useful....when it isn't broken. I have this problem where the metal piece inside the phone actually falls OUT (the metal piece that holds the charger in). This happened to me 3 times with different LG V6100's each time. I don't abuse the charger, and I don't pull on it when it's charging (especially enough to have this happen 3 TIMES with different phones). Otherwise, I like this phone. Many better ones out now, but it is still a decent little phone. I love the vibrate & high feature, among others.

I really hate this phone!
by dongtoucher ,Sep 26 '06
Pros: Cheap price, Pretty durable, Decent battery life
Cons: Side buttons, Bad reception, Dropped calls
My third phone through Verizon is by far the worst. Previously, I used Audiovox and Kyocera. I've had this phone 18 months now and I've suffered more dropped calls, bad connections and annoyances than ever before.

My number one complaint is the stupid side buttons. The phone takes pictures of nothing, switches to Driving Mode and vibrates while I'm carrying it on my hip. Why not recess the buttons or let the user disable them?!?!

I only use this as a phone and it does an alright job when I can get a stable signal. I do occasionally use it as an alarm clock and it actually works great for this!

On the plus side:
Battery life is good. I only need to charge it about twice a week. It's pretty durable - I've dropped it from about 3 feet a few times and the battery usually goes popping out. But, it still works.

My wife has the same phone and she hates it too.

I wish I had the old Kyocera phone back. As soon as my contract is up I'm switching to T-Mobile pre-paid and a new phone.

I love LG
by shainamacmath ,Aug 14 '07
Pros: User friendly
Cons: They dont have the option to block restricted calls like motorollas do.
LG's are so friendly. I have had many phones and I will only buy LG's from now one. I have had a motorolla before. It did nothing but freeze up on me. Shut off. I could manage it very well. The LG never give me a problem. NEVER

LG VX6100 - Don't Do It , save yourself the aggravation!
by platonist ,May 14 '05
Pros: It was cheap with the rebate
Cons: Speaker requires open phone, dropped calls, no self-portrait on camera, side buttons inadvertently operate phone.
I am returning this phone. Over the years I have had two other phones - another LG and a Samsung; this is by far the worst. More often than not, it drops calls - and I don't even live somewhere rural; I live in the DC area! The buttons on the side are too sensitive; when in my purse, it turns itself on Driving Mode and takes pictures. You have to keep it open to use the speaker, and the display reads "speaker on" when it is off, and "speaker off" when it is on. Also, there is no self-portrait feature on the camera. With my Samsung, I could turn on the camera and shut the phone; it would display the viewfinder on the front so that I could snap a photo of myself.

Just got it...very nice so far.
by ericamyhall ,Dec 01 '05
Pros: Selection of wallpapers, bright display, loud speaker
Cons: Very slight fuzziness during some calls.
I have been with Verizon in the Des Moines area for 4+ years and recently decided to trade up from my Audiovox 8900. The front display had gone out, and I was ready for a new phone.

I purchased the 6100 off of the Verizon website for $29.99. I had read many reviews before buying and was convinced that - for the money - this was my best choice. I've been using it for about 48 hours and love it! The phone has a bright display, more "fun" wallpapers, etc. than I was used to on the 8900 and has not dropped a call yet...which was my biggest fear, having read some reviews!

Verizon's Get It Now software runs quicker than on my 8900 and download times in general (tones, applications, etc.) are faster.

The only drawback I've noticed is a slight fuzziness when talking to some people. It's not heard on the other end, so it's my phone...but it is NOT a problem. Not distracting at all...just an artifact I'll deal with :)

Overall, it's a great phone for the money...we'll see if it withstands the test of time.

Keep looking if you use voice calling often!
by jgcinohio ,Sep 02 '05
Pros: A decent basic phone, good capacity memory for contacts, decent basic camera.
Cons: Non-intuitive command structure and operation, cumbersome driving (hands free) driving mode, weak documentation.
After many years with a Motorola, I switched while modifying my account as Verizon offered a deal on the LG VX6100. Unfortunately, I took it. I drive often on business and rely on hands free calling ("Driving Mode", in LG jargon). This phone requires a button and three voice commands for each call. Furthermore, you don't know when the call is over. The announcing feature for hands free is annoying as well, and the entire matter of how "Driving Mode" really works isn't addressed in the LG manual. Within 24 hours, I tried to have my old Motorola reactivated, but it was too old for Verizon to do that (no 911 dialing). I was trapped. While this works reasonably well as a basic phone, has plenty of memory, and works reasonably well as a camera, those are the basics I expect anywhere these days. The complete lack of easy, logical, and intuitive function in the hand free or driving mode will probably ultimately result in this phone flying out the window as I'm driving down the interstate.

Good features, lousy quality
by fpl_guy ,Aug 02 '06
Pros: compact, easy to use, good feature set
Cons: I'm still waiting for my second replacement
I got this phone because it has the features I wanted, and was a reasonable price at US Cellular. The sound quality is so-so, the range seems ok, and the menus are easy to navigate.

The battery life was good until the phone started switching to analog mode for no reason, about three months after I bought it. This reduces battery life to about a day. US Cellular sent it in to LG (charged me $10 to send it!) and in about 5 weeks I got a replacement. I had the replacement for 2 days when the screen started freaking out; split images, off colors, and just plain unintelligible hash. Again returned to US Cellular, who again sent it to LG (didn't charge me this time). That was going on four weeks ago, and still no phone.

My advice, stay away from LG. US Cellular is not so hot either.

Only decent Verizon Triband
by homecmk ,May 29 '05
Pros: Triband, user-friendly
Cons: Analog external display, bulky, thick, design
This is my 4th Verizon phone. Started out with a A530 which had nothing, to a VX6000 that had a camera and a 8900 that really sucks. The VX6100 is hugh compared to the GSM and even Sprint PCS phones coming out. The only real difference between this and the VX6000 is that it's a Triband. The antenna is always poking me when I bend, since I keep it in my pocket.

Promises much, delivers little.
by BOSSC351 ,May 29 '05
Pros: Nice features.
Cons: Drops calls. Reception is horrible. Must pay to do ANYTHING on this phone and service.
Got this phone from Verizon when it came out for use at work and emergencies. The camera is a nice feature to use on the fly and I take pictures of my son to look at when times are rough. The calendar and calculator are both helpful in a bind but here is the bottom line. This is a phone. If the phone is crap then what is the point in all the rest of the fancy features. And let me tell you, this phone IS crap. It drops calls on me with one bar or full bars. I got a replacement phone and the same thing happens. I put on an external roof mount antenna that boosted my Nokia considerably only to find no real difference in signal or quality. My wife have the cheapy $.99 Alltel Nokia and it blows this LG piece out of the water. A side by side comparison is when the realization sets in that I got screwed. Both CDMA and both working from the same SID.

Why I Like This Phone
by biophile ,Nov 10 '05
Pros: Very Durable, takes reasonably nice pictures, reasonable price. Doesn't drop calls.
Cons: The side keys are a bit too sensitive and it is a bit bulky.
Compared to the other reviews I have read, I haven't had any of the same problems. I was recommended this phone by my cousin who is a phone technician for Verizon Wireless. He told me that is the most durable phone with the fewest problems they sell and so far, I would have to say he is right.
I purchased this phone in March 2005, for the reasons that I heard it was durable, it is a trimode phone with nice camera options.
I have never had a dropped call with this phone and that is coming from someone who lives in rural Wyoming, where dropped calls are the norm. This is my first camera phone, but I am impressed. I like the self-timer option, which I've used quite a bit and is handy when you want to be in the picture as well.
It is a little bulky, but I expect that for a camera phone. I feel that the price was very reasonable for all the features. I haven't had any of the battery problems I've had with my other phones which is a huge relief. Overall, I think it is a great entry-level camera phone.

LG VX6100 is an excellent phone and buy with Verizon
by thesellerman ,Jul 28 '05
Pros: Signal strength, ease of use, color display, camera, ring functions, style
Cons: "Digital command" button poor location and irritating.
This review is written by a sales professional who utilizes approximately 4000 minutes a month. Have used numerous cell phones over the years and replace mine every year or two. This phone, feature for feature and dollar for dollar is without question top drawer.

Lets get a few things clear first though. I buy my cellular telephone phone to be a cellular telephone, message center and I keep it simple. I did not purchase this phone to be a high tech digital camera nor did I purchase this phone to be cruise internet. That is what my digital camera and computers are for.

When Verizon offered this phone with a two year extention, the phone cost fifty dollars and is worth every penny.
