Pros: Tons of features at a great price. Cons: Virtually none.
Wireless networking has really taken off in the last year. As we learned from mobile phones, wireless brings with it a whole new level of convenience. In theory and in practice, with a wireless-enabled computer, you can walk into a wireless hot spot...

Pros: A networking novice can be up and running in a few short hours. Cons: You don't get the satisfaction of drilling wire holes through walls and ceiling.
I love this house, I really do. So, when I finally abandoned Juno and went DSL, while I wanted to share that connection throughout the house, I didn't want to poke large holes in the place to do it. I mean, what, was I supposed to tear up the carpets,...
Pros: Wireless freedom, while still providing wired ports. Good web-based setup interface. Cons: Initial seutp can be difficult in "upgrade" situations, No power switch.
I've had my home networked by a regular (wired) router for a period of time (See review on SMC 7004ABR Router here at Epinions), and everything worked well. However, I decided that the time had come to go fully wireless, and enjoy the freedom of being ...
Pros: Linksys experience - refined version of the technology. Wireless is freedom! Cons: Line of sight issues. Use access points or third-party antennas if you run into problems.
This technology is amazing.
This particular product is a truly robust, latter version of multiple attempts by dozens of vendors to produce an EFFECTIVE Wi-Fi wireless lan router/access point.
Pros: Cheap, compact, easy to set up Cons: Would probably not work in anything bigger than an apartment
As soon as I found out that the same wireless technology used in my office could be used in my apartment, I saw all the fun possibilities (as well as the serious business applications, but there are considerably fewer of those).
Pros: Excellent throughput
Responsive technical support
Excellent for hard-wired networks Cons: Very unstable wireless connection
Constantly needs to be reset to maintain good performance

Pros: cheap, easy to find new or used Cons: not robust for heavy use
I love and hate this little blue box.
I love it because: its fairly priced, its feature rich, its easy to buy (and sell), it basically does what you expect and you can plug in 3rd-party antennas to extend its range.
Pros: Easy to setup, web interface to change settings, wireless! Cons: Need to update firmware in order to get it to run reliably
The Linksys BEFW11S4 is a wireless cable/DSL router with a 4 port switch. Basically this means you can connect a cable modem or dsl modem to it so that you can share it on a network of computers. What drove me to buy this particular model was the...

Pros: Quick and Easy Setup, 4 wired SWITCHED ports, instant wireless, highly configurable, removable antennas Cons: wireless enabled by default
Linksys I think was one of the first to come out with a cable modem router, and then companies followed suite. I still think Linksys has the most user friendly (for the uneducated computer user) interface around. I remember seeing Netgears and others...
Pros: Removes the hassle of wiring and gives the ability to connect multiple units. Cons: Wireless networking in general is more expensive than wired.
I recently moved into a new home with a DSL connection. Since we were about to become a multi-computer household, I began looking into my options. My only two options were to use the DSL on only one computer at a time, or to create my own network.

Pros: Share a cable modem without the cables.
NAT firewall adds security. Cons: **CORRUPTION USING NetBEUI**

Pros: Very easy to install. Works well with Windows 98, 2000, and XP. Cons: Bad range. May have to buy a signal booster if you live in a house.
To make the story short, I have two desktop PCs and a laptop. Using cable modem, I had to be in the room where the cable modem box is, and swap the cable between my desktop and laptop in order to get connected to the internet.
Pros: Excellent configurabilty for a variety of Network configurations Cons: Poor support options. No support numbers in documentation

Pros: Parts of it are easy to set up. Once working - wireless is great. Cons: Most incredibly horrible customer service I've seen from just about any company.
Call me old fashioned. Call me a cranky old fart (well, not real old, I'm under 40 still). Call me demanding (but I'm not), but I believe in financially supporting only those companies that support ME, the customer.
Pros: No more CAT5 cables strung all over the house! Cons: Ties up 2.4 GHz frequency in the house.
As a hardware geek, the number of PC's around the house keeps growing. I've had them networked for years, but have had to run CAT5 lines through the basement and crawl space to achieve this. Recently I've been remodeling the basement and decided that...
Pros: Easy setup, good looks, flawless performance Cons: Not the best tech support (but will you need it?)

Pros: Easy web-based setup; Reliable; Powerful for a home network Cons: Range is less than advertised.
This is a pretty robust piece of hardware.

Pros: Integrated unit with good form factor Cons: Not for someone with an existing wireless network, shallow customer support
If you're thinking that the BEFW11S4 V2 is a great deal, it's because it's missing significant features versus the WAP11. It's not nearly as powerful as the WAP11, and if you have an existing wireless network and want the BEFW11S4 to work in it, then...
Pros: Easy to configure. Cons: Netmeeting can't receive calls through this because of the way Netmeeting receives calls.

Pros: None. The hardware isn't any better than similar items available. Cons: Possibly the most apathetic customer support operation on the planet.
I have to say off the bat -- I'm VERY disappointed with my Linksys experiance. I tried to get this product working for three weeks. I even had the network gurus at work puzzling over it. No joy. The problem is that the AP portion of this combo ...
Pros: Easy setup, if you just use the most basic functionality.
Not expensive. Cons: Securing the wireless network does not work. WEP is not working.
Poor technical support.

Pros: none Cons: weak signal, doesn't support MSN messenger voice packets, died after a year and a half
I had it for a year and a half, and now the wireless portion of it is dead. Linksys tech support said I'd have to buy a new one, since it's out of warranty. I expect devices like this to last long enough to become obsolete.
Pros: Works great in a 2600 square foot, 2 story house. Cons: Had port problems with Ver. 4 unit.
The router works great, both wired and wireless. I had a problem with the first unit I bought (Ver4). It would not recognize my laptop on on port 2 but it recognized my desktop. Linksys technical support thought it was a defective unit. I returned it for...

Ease of use
This is an incredibly easy to use product. The manuals have complete details on how to plug in the cables. You put in a setup cd and it configures everything for you. I was on withen 5 minutes.
Pros: Easy setup. Has 4 ports for hard-wired solution. Decent range Cons: Not obvious on how to filter by MAC address.
I have setup several home and small office networks, both wired and wireless. I decided to set up my own wireless home network and went through several trips to the store returning D-link, SMC, and Siemen's wireless products (for more info see the...
Pros: Easy to implement Cons: Documentation could be better.
I purchased this unit recently, along with the wirless PCMCIA card (WPC11). I have to say that I am very impressed. It was very easy to install and use.

Pros: easy as pie to setup, great range, made my life easier Cons: I once stayed on the phone for over an hour for Tech Support
After realising my family of 4 can't share one computer, I managed to fix my brothers computer, and move my computer up to me room :) It wasn't too long that I discovered that I had also left my internet connection.
I purchased this item at a local best buy to network my house. I had previously set up a wired network using T-1 lines. I wanted to be able to take my laptop in other rooms of the house and decided to attempt a wireless network.
Pros: Easy Setup - great range compared to other wireless solutions Cons: WEP 128bit encryption not mentioned in setup, should be required question

Pros: Easy to use and easy to install Cons: Poor customer service
This router is very easy to install and extremely easy to use. My house has already wired with Cat-5 cable, thus all my existing network was cable based with a router, a print server, and a 100mbps switch. I thought it will be a hassale to add another...
Pros: It's widely available Cons: It doesn't work & terrible tech support
My first two had to be returned because they burned out. The only way to reach technical support was to set my alarm for 3:00 in the morning and call them then. Twice, I got excellent support doing this, once the person had all of the wrong information....
Pros: Trouble free until it died. Cons: Died 3 months from the purchase.

Pros: Router, WLAN and ethernet hub functions combined Cons: Intermittent function failure
I am familiar with Linksys' products since I upgraded from a WAP11 access point, which always worked like a charm, to a router so that I could network easily all the connected PCs in my home network. Set-up was easy through the browser-based set-up util ...
Pros: Price, Installation, Ease of use. Cons: Range
This wireless router is great! You can't beat it for the money. Set up was a snap. It even has 4 ports in back in case you want hook up with a wire. I installed cards in both my laptops and the desktop. Now I can share files across the network between all three computers. You can share printers and even hook up storage on the network. Range is ok, it covers my house, but my wife run her own business next to our house. The signal there is weak and she loses connection often. I've already prepurchased a Linksys WRE54g range extender to increase my range. I write a review after I get it, and try it out.
Biggest POS I ever purchased by colin78617 ,Nov 08 '04
Pros: Easy to set up as a switch Cons: Laughable WAP range (if you get a signal at all)
Sure, it works great as a switch. As a WAP? Hardly.
This POS can't put out a decent signal within a 6' radius.
Meanwhile I can pick up signals from somewhere in my neighborhood. Not sure where as none of my neighbors will fess up and tell me whose running a WAP.
Call support? Where'd they dig these bafoons up? I had one tech tell me line-of-sight was required. Hello? If I had line-of-sight, I'd have run a cable and return this hunk of crap.
My first mistake was purchasing this load of crap.
My second mistake was calling tech support.
My third mistake was keeping it and trying to get it to work.
There won't be a fourth mistake. I'm not buying another product with their name on it.
Pros: It keeps going and going without any problems. Cons: None that I can tell.
I installed this router and was up and running in 1 hour.
Customer Support is very good and very responsive. I've called them twice in the last year, once on a weekend. Both times they help me resolve my problem. Once I reset the router to its factory defaults and forgot how to configure it. The second problem was that the router failed to release its Dynamic IP Address after my cable modem's IP changed. And all I had to do was cycle from DHCP to Static IP and back to get it working.
And Linksys honors its rebates in a timely fashion. I received my rebates within the 8 week window.
Best Price for LinkSys Router by cantenna ,Mar 02 '04
Pros: Easy to set up, has great range. I have not had to reset it. Cons: The specifics on changing power output and other programmable options are not available
At http://amazon.com I picked up a BEFW11S4 LinkSys access point/router for Under $48.00 with free shipping; ups ground.
6 days later I had it up and running!
Go for it!
I read some reviews from the internet that were all positive.
I have a computer whiz friend that liked his, and he would know.
This is a DEAL!!!
I wish they provided a schematic for us Tech types.
This unit comes with a cd for set up and installation.
The setup was rather straight forward and easy to follow.
Overall, this is a wonderful... by zerocool_dt3000 ,Mar 14 '03
Overall, this is a wonderful product. I have used their standard wired LAN system and it was more of a pain than the wireless version to install. Considering the benefits of a wireless system the cost is reasonable. The only problem I had with it was that the router froze inexplicably and did not send signals to the other computers in the system. The solution was to simply unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in. I highly recommend this product!
