Pros: Easy set up, Speed Cons: Size
I purchased this item at a local best buy to network my house. I had previously set up a wired network using T-1 lines. I wanted to be able to take my laptop in other rooms of the house and decided to attempt a wireless network.
The LINKSYS...

Pros: Easy Setup - great range compared to other wireless solutions Cons: WEP 128bit encryption not mentioned in setup, should be required question
Belkin doesn't hold a candle to the range found with this wireless router. I took back my Belkin router and wireless card, and went with Linksys not expecting much, but what I got was a great product. With the Belkin router and card, I had to walk into...

Pros: Easy to use and easy to install Cons: Poor customer service
This router is very easy to install and extremely easy to use. My house has already wired with Cat-5 cable, thus all my existing network was cable based with a router, a print server, and a 100mbps switch. I thought it will be a hassale to add another...

Pros: It's widely available Cons: It doesn't work & terrible tech support
My first two had to be returned because they burned out. The only way to reach technical support was to set my alarm for 3:00 in the morning and call them then. Twice, I got excellent support doing this, once the person had all of the wrong information....

Pros: Readily available, good price Cons: Tech support is awful and lousy VPN functionality
This router works pretty well in both the wirelss mode or using the wired ethernet ports.
If your application is a bit complicated or if you expect to need to use technical support I'd suggest you move on to another brand.

Pros: Trouble free until it died. Cons: Died 3 months from the purchase.
My 3 month old Linksys BEFW11S4 just died. The box itself never gave me any trouble. The installation was a breeze and I never had any performance problems.
Yesterday I got home to find that I had no connectivity to the Internet through my...

Pros: Convenience. Good tech support for simple problems. Cons: Poor tech support beyond simple problems.
Setup looked like it would be a cinch, until I discovered that I had to upgrade the firmware. A couple of hours and a few phone calls later I was operational.
I set up one computer (basement room) hard-wired to the router. Two computers with...

Pros: Router, WLAN and ethernet hub functions combined Cons: Intermittent function failure
I am familiar with Linksys' products since I upgraded from a WAP11 access point, which always worked like a charm, to a router so that I could network easily all the connected PCs in my home network. Set-up was easy through the browser-based set-up util ...

Instant Hotspot
by niteranger7 ,Jun 12 '04
Pros: Price, Installation, Ease of use. Cons: Range
This wireless router is great! You can't beat it for the money. Set up was a snap. It even has 4 ports in back in case you want hook up with a wire. I installed cards in both my laptops and the desktop. Now I can share files across the network between all three computers. You can share printers and even hook up storage on the network. Range is ok, it covers my house, but my wife run her own business next to our house. The signal there is weak and she loses connection often. I've already prepurchased a Linksys WRE54g range extender to increase my range. I write a review after I get it, and try it out.

Biggest POS I ever purchased
by colin78617 ,Nov 08 '04
Pros: Easy to set up as a switch Cons: Laughable WAP range (if you get a signal at all)
Sure, it works great as a switch. As a WAP? Hardly.
This POS can't put out a decent signal within a 6' radius.
Meanwhile I can pick up signals from somewhere in my neighborhood. Not sure where as none of my neighbors will fess up and tell me whose running a WAP.
Call support? Where'd they dig these bafoons up? I had one tech tell me line-of-sight was required. Hello? If I had line-of-sight, I'd have run a cable and return this hunk of crap.
My first mistake was purchasing this load of crap.
My second mistake was calling tech support.
My third mistake was keeping it and trying to get it to work.
There won't be a fourth mistake. I'm not buying another product with their name on it.
Learn from my mistakes and steer clear of this.

AVOID the Linksys BEFW11S4
by rpatters ,Apr 04 '05
Pros: Good looks and is stackable (unlike the newer Linksys products) Cons: Periodically disconnects wireless users -- UNRESOLVED PROBLEM!
When it works, works well. Linksys tech support (from India) is arrogant and very, very unhelpful. Recommendation: Avoid this product -- period!!

Never a Problem
by activelyx ,Feb 19 '04
Pros: It keeps going and going without any problems. Cons: None that I can tell.
I installed this router and was up and running in 1 hour.
Customer Support is very good and very responsive. I've called them twice in the last year, once on a weekend. Both times they help me resolve my problem. Once I reset the router to its factory defaults and forgot how to configure it. The second problem was that the router failed to release its Dynamic IP Address after my cable modem's IP changed. And all I had to do was cycle from DHCP to Static IP and back to get it working.
And Linksys honors its rebates in a timely fashion. I received my rebates within the 8 week window.

Best Price for LinkSys Router
by cantenna ,Mar 02 '04
Pros: Easy to set up, has great range. I have not had to reset it. Cons: The specifics on changing power output and other programmable options are not available
At http://amazon.com I picked up a BEFW11S4 LinkSys access point/router for Under $48.00 with free shipping; ups ground.
6 days later I had it up and running!
Go for it!
I read some reviews from the internet that were all positive.
I have a computer whiz friend that liked his, and he would know.
This is a DEAL!!!
I wish they provided a schematic for us Tech types.
This unit comes with a cd for set up and installation.
The setup was rather straight forward and easy to follow.
