Feature packed phone

by stevex , Oct 27 '02
Pros: Small, lots of features, GPRS
Cons: Fixed antenna, GSM only
I've had a few phones over the years.. the last one was a Motorola TimePort as well but one that flipped open. It's hard to believe these two phones are from the same company, they're so different.

The biggest difference is features. The...

Low cost: Mailing, trading, banking, surfing with Motorola Timeport around the world

by harmonia , Nov 17 '01
Pros: Tri-band + GPRS + FastInfraRed = ideal phone for businesspeople and travelers
Cons: To get use with the menu sometimes seems a little bit strange
First: I have a Motorola Timeport 260 Handy, which is the mainly identical european model of the Timeport 280 Handy and which functions because of its triband technology in Europe as well in US and many other countries (survey available on your...

Motorola P280: Voicestream's IStream Phone

by karentonyjake , Nov 13 '01
Pros: GSM; GPRS; Voice-activated dialing; Appearance; WAP; World phone (Trimode; PIM
Cons: Dim backlight; Non-flip
It's finally here. A 2.5G phone that uses GPRS for data access. Hence, you pay only for the amount of data you access, not for the time spent on line. Voicestream has introduced a couple of Motorolas for their newly launched IStream network, which...

Great business tool!

by Eck101 , Nov 26 '01
Pros: Appearance, tri-band world phone, GPRS, voice activated dialing
Cons: Backlight display
The Timeport 280 represents a great step forward for Motorola as a marked improvement over recent StarTacs. In my opinion, the best features are:

Appearance/Usability:
The 280 has a stylish silver/grey look and feels great in the hand....

Timeport 280

by newsom2 , Dec 05 '01
Pros: Flexibility, tri-band, appearance, reasonable price
Cons: IRda does not work with Palm Vx.
Very nice phone. I like that it is not a flip phone. It has a solid feel to it unlike some popular phones. This a a phone for a professional and not kids. No disrespect to kids. No emphasis on games and different colors, etc.

Negative. I...

House-phone quality sound, sounds good to me.

by popkorn1 , Jun 23 '02
Pros: Nice looking, great sound, easy locking
Cons: menu layout, screen brightness, ringer volume, some echo
This phone has already replaced my house phone. I don't get any calls on my normal phone anymore. The sound quality on the Motorolla Timeport is extremely good, I really wouldn't be able to tell it was a cell phone most of the time if it wasn't for the...

Timeport 280

by phonetraveler , Mar 18 '02
Pros: GSM coverage in US, Europe and Africa, long talk time, text messaging
Cons: Defective phone book - all numbers can be erased; poor sound quality
The Timeport 280 (GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz) is a nice phone. It is very light and the buttons are easy to use.

The problems I have experience with this phone in the two months I have used it are:
1) static during phone calls in strong...

quite nice

by shenk , Mar 11 '02
Pros: many many features, great sound, triband, light weight
Cons: has an antenna, poor reception, poor battery life
I actually have the Motorala P7689, which is the asian version of the 280. The styling is similar, but not identical although the functions are basically the same. The p7689 has the blue indiglo backlight which looks nicer than the plain green stuff. The...

the best phone on the market for the money!!

by blythiee , Jun 27 '02
Pros: nice design, adjustable volume, durability, clarity, features, reception
Cons: takes some getting-used to
In the last two weeks I have had the chance to try out three different models of cellular phone under my Rogers Cantel AT&T two year contract. The first was the Nokia 3360 (which ended up being a disaster), the second was the Siemens s40 (the worst...

Happier with Nokia 8290, 3390, or 6190.

by rnueoka , Jan 08 '02
Pros: Stylish design, built-in micro browser.
Cons: Sluggish firmware (compared to Nokia). Signal reception not better than Nokia.
First, I have to admit that this is the first Motorola phone that I have used for VoiceStream service. Prior to this, I've had a great deal of experience with the Nokia 2190, 3390, 6190 and 8290 models.
Other than the fact that the Motorola P280...

Much improved Motorola worldphone

by elybeck , Dec 09 '01
Pros: Tri-band support allows you to use the phone in Europe, Asia, and the USA
Cons: Menu system is awkward, IRda support in Windows 2000/XP?
While on a short-term assignment in Asia, I purchased Motorola's first attempt at a tri-band phone. That phone was a L7089, however this phone, the Timeport 280 is a good attempt to address the L7089's bugs.

The 280 offers voice activated...

I hate it

by blob66 , Jul 01 '02
Pros: lots of features, good battery life, infra red
Cons: hanging, cannot stop ringing, slow
At first appearance, this phone looks great, Big screen, lots of features, infra red.
However I felt a bit disappointed using it. I'm usually confident with GSM phones, but with the P280 it is so easy to erase contacts from your phone memory by...

won't go back to Nokia yet

by boulderben , Apr 09 '02
Pros: Lightweight,long battery life,usable worldwide,great sound(better than Nokia),web ready and more.
Cons: scratches show as case is colored on the external surface. No dedicated alarm clock.
I upgraded from a Nokia 5190. Nokia battery needed replacing and often disconnected from the phone. Traveling to Taiwan, I also needed a phone that would work abroad. Although the Nokia had been faithful, the Motorola (a brand that i was never terribly...

Don't use if you use a headset

by sidsub , Apr 29 '03
Pros: Good handset sound quality, good RF
Cons: Headset jack keeps dying!
I've now bought 7 of these (I'm not kidding) from Voicestream/T-Mobile. Each one has worked fine for 1-3 months and then the headset jack has died. In fairness, I do use the headset jack fairly heavily, but I've used other phones in the past in the...
