  • Nacho Libre is funnier than Napoleon Dynamite

    Jun 22 '06
    Pros: Jack Black!
Cons: A few overly silly parts

Summary: Here’s a great idea: Get the guy who made Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess) and team him up with the guy who wrote School of Rock (Mike White) and then cast Jack Black in the lead role. The hilarious result of this collaboration is a movie ... read more

  • Nacho, Hold the Cheese

    Aug 03 '06
Pros: Zany, ridiculous, insane, fun while intoxicated
Cons: You may have to get intoxicated to enjoy this film

Summary: There are some movies that are best served with generous amounts of alcohol and a crowd of your craziest friends. This is one of them.No one should go to a movie starring Jack Black and expect anything more than ninety minutes of fart humor and ... read more

Cons: Drags near the end, very unusual

  • Jack Black Wears Stretchy Pants In Nacho Libre

    Jun 30 '06
Pros: It's a really good story.
    Cons: The direction and dialogue.

Summary: This movie should've been right up my alley. It is about wrestling. That alone should've made me see it on the first day. However, because of scheduling craziness, I wasn't able to take my father and two sons until a couple weeks after the debut. Still, ... read more

  • I hate orpans...but Nacho Libre is decent

    Jun 29 '06
Pros: Half of the time it is funny, good performances
Cons: Half the time it isn't funny, amateurish and devoid of a plot

Summary: I was one of the lucky few who saw “Napoleon Dynamite” before it became immensely popular. I went and watched it on my birthday with some family and didn’t know anything about it yet. I thought it was decent, a little pointless, but worth a few chuckles. ... read more

  • What do you get when you mix Religion and Lucha Libre? Nacho Libre

    Jun 26 '06
Pros: Jack Blacks facial expressions, Ana De La Reguera, wrestling match ups. It was short
Cons: not enough laughs, juvenile at times,

Summary: Spoiler WarningThis opinion reveals everything about the plot of the movie Jack Black stars in this mildly funny film about a man of the cloth that dreams of being a Luchador. Nacho Libre starts out with a young chubby Mexican boy ... read more

  • Terrible

    Jun 21 '06
    Pros: The pretty nun
Cons: Mugging, useless visuals, insulting lenghty lead-ins to unfunny visual punchlines.

Summary: We love Jack Black but this is just terrible. Maybe he was trying to be serious because of "religious" content, but even that lent no redeeming quality to it. So even if farting sounds make you laugh -- there's a time and a place for everything I ... read more

  • Attack Of The New And Improved Formula Movie

    Jun 20 '06
Pros: Jack Black. Some interesting mimicry of Mexican film making. Two of the jokes were funny.
Cons: 72 jokes were unfunny. Racist.

Summary: We can only guess the conversation between husband and wife writing team Jared and Jerusha Hess went something like this, "Holy smokes honey, our agent says he can sell whatever we want and make a big studio movie with a real movie star!" "But I'm ... read more

  • School Of Rock + Napoleon Dynamite = Nacho Libre

    Jun 20 '06
Pros: Absolutely hilarious, bizarre and yet amusing
Cons: Some of Jack Black's antics are a little overplayed

Summary: Jack Black is funny. He is also kind of "schtick-y" and annoying. Give him a Spanish accent, a mustach and a crazy afro, and you've got yourself Nacho Libre, the funniest luchador (wrestler) ever! He still does his kind of funny/kind of ... read more

  • And Starring Pancho Villa as a Fat White Guy

    Jun 17 '06
Pros: Jack Black just had a son, so good for him. I wish him the best.
Cons: Jack Black also just released an unwatchable comedy.

Summary: An improvement on Napoleon Dynamite simply by virtue of starring Jack Black, writer/director Jared Hess' second film Nacho Libre is still as tasteless, moronic and unfunny as his debut, the title alone revealing Hess' continuing obsession ... read more

  • Idiotic Fun

    Jun 17 '06
Pros: joyful, fun, shot on location, Jack Black
Cons: not as funny as Napoleon Dynamite and not as deep

Summary: Nacho Libre is the latest offering from Jared Hess, co-writer and director of Napoleon Dynamite. This time out, Josh Heder - whose iconic look and sound made Napoleon Dynamite what it was - has been replaced by Jack Black. The switch signals a move, ... read more

Pros: At least it's only 90 minutes
Cons: Not the most redeeming 90 minutes you could indulge in

Summary: It seems that these days, America gets the kind of comedy it deserves. Writer-director Jared Hess' Napoleon Dynamite had characters that were to be pitied instead of laughed at, but millions of people lapped it up. Now Hess is back with another ... read more
