Excellent choice for the price

by reality106 , May 05 '07
Pros: The picture is unbeatable for the price. All the inputs you could ever want.
Cons: The VGA input produces a better quality picture than the DVI.
I purchased this TV back in October 2006, and use it as my computer monitor. I've never enjoyed Need for Speed this much in my life! It does seem to be a bit buggy around the edges though; it DOES change picture size in a strange way, and isn't easy to ...

niko 32" tv

by yummy930New Member , Aug 01 '08
Pros: price
Cons: resolution
I bought this tv for over two years already. At first I was very skeptical on buying a tv from a brand that I never heard of. But the price was unbeatable. I bought this on buy.com fro $600 with free shipping. On top of that there was a $100 mail in ...

Stay away from Niko - the company is dead
by vmazelis ,Feb 29 '08
Pros: Good quality video.
Cons: Dead company, no support available. No HDMI or DTS / SPDIF (optical) inputs
I've bought it in 2006 and its working OK so far. The problem is I found it impossible to connect to my HD DVD player, as it does not have an HDMI plug-in, neither does it have SPDIF (optical digital input). So I get HDMI video, but no audio, or a non-stereo lowest quality audio from their weird single - line audio input on the bottom of the TV. I was unable to find any workaround. My choice is either use component outputs on my DVD Player and hook them up the Component inputs on the Niko TV and lose the HD Video, or use the HDMI converter and DVI input on Niko with good HD video but horrible mono sound.

Their website is still on at Nikotronics.com but it hasn't been updated since 2006, Downloads area is empty, the Search engine on their site doesn't even recognize their models and nobody answers emails to their support. Conclusion: the company is dead. Don't buy it, unless you get it for close to nothing.

Looks nice when it works
by pinkstg ,Aug 20 '06
Pros: Great picture
Numerous inputs
Cons: Screen size adjusts itself in undesirable ways
Reliability
My old tube TV was on its last leg so I decided to buy a low end (cheap) HDTV. I found this TV on Tigerdirect and I couldn't find a better value. The picture is just as good as more expensive models I saw in the big stores. I replaced my 32" tube TV with this one and it is plenty big. It has 4 sets of inputs, 3 component, 3 S-video. You can use the #3 inputs to output sound (and I suppose video) to another source. I'm sending the TV's sound to a receiver.

After less than two months of moderate use this TV failed. It developed a big vertical stripe of dead pixels about 4 inches wide. I'm in the process of trying to get it fixed under warranty. Sometimes the TV automatically adjusts the screen size to 16:9 and won't let me change it. Other times it keeps switching between 16:9 and Panorama over and over and over again. It does not do this for HD sources; it picks 16:9 and leaves it there.

Great TV But No Rebate
by jfschill ,Sep 10 '06
Pros: Great picture, bargain price, excellent features, easy installation.
Cons: Don't count on the promised rebate.
I purchased the Niko 32" LCD TV on April 23, and I am very happy with the TV. All the positive things others have written about it on this and other sites are true. The only mild issue I have had is that the universal remote Comcast requires for digital users will not adjust the volume levels or turn the set on and off--a mild inconvenience to me.

However, Niko promised a $100 rebate if the set was purchased from one of several merchants (such as Buy.com). Some 4 1/2 months later, and 21 weeks after I received an email promising payment of the rebate within 8 to 10 weeks, I still have not received the rebate. Today, I threatened to file a complaint with the California Attorney General's office if I do not get the rebate soon. We'll see.

Frankly, the TV is worth the price even without the rebate. But do not buy it expecting a rebate without a fight, at best.
