Pros: The most appealing lovers ever to appear in a bodice-ripper Cons: Sticky-sweet prose that mostly just plods along to a shuddering finale
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is the kind of heavy-breathing, bodice-ripping romance I’d normally hurry past in the bookstore, shuddering and making the sign of the cross, thankful I don’t read those kind of books.
Pros: Descriptive writing that lets you see, hear, taste without being tedious. Cons: Too long between series installments.
I am reading this book for the fourth time for two very good reasons. First, because the author, Diana Gabaldon, writes such fascinating tales packed with information and action that I can reread one of her books and not be bored.
Pros: Captivating Cons: Very small amount of offensive language
After I had discovered the wonderful world of books as a child, my mother often accused me of living in them. In this book, I almost felt as if I HAD been transported right into the story.
Pros: fantastic romance and adventure story Cons: might have to look up a few words
The first time I saw this book, I was shelving books in the romance section of a Barnes and Noble store. The cover caught my eye, since the book looked out of place to me. I actually asked the man in charge of genre fiction if it was mis-shelved! He...
One of my oldest friends recommended Diana Gabaldon's series to me while we were on a mini-vacation a few months ago. I have to say that I was skeptical about the whole concept. I've never been much of a science fiction/fantasy reader, so I figured this...
Pros: Page-turner, hard to put down, good escapist novel Cons: Oh my God! Is this a *romance* novel?
People who know me will never believe I read this book -- let alone liked it so much that I went out and picked up the two that came after it, and then, when I finished the third and found out there was a fourth, I actually made a special trip to the...
Pros: Vivid descriptions, great story, nothing like it! Cons: May be a little long for some.
My husband actually recommended this book to me. My husband, the Louis L'Amour reading, under the stars sleeping, VanDamme watching non romantic guy actually read this book, and liked it! And I, his romance novel reading, bubble bath taking, chic-flick...
Pros: Writing style, characters, plot Cons: Time consuming (not a con to ME, but to others, perhaps)
Outlander is easily my favorite book. I've read it at least 10 times, and each time I see something that I missed the previous times. It actually took me a while to get into it, but my friend who recommended it said "Give it 100 pages... if you're...
Pros: Great writing, very imaginative, wonderful characters Cons: None
I didn't know much about Scotland, or Scottish history until I picked up this book - but now it's one of my favorite places to read about (and hopefully visit someday)
This book was recommended to my by my local bookstore clerk, who told me...
Pros: Entertaining, Historical, Sensual. Cons: None....other then it ends.....
Outlander is a MUST read. The story is based on historical fact but with fictional main characters. It is mostly set in 18th century Scotland. Diana Gabaldon's humor shines through her work and I found myself laughing out loud over and over again. ...
Pros: Fantastic historical detail, engaging characters, riveting storyline. Cons: Unbalanced portrayal of "major" characters, and the two major time periods touched on in the book.
Diana Gabaldon's _Outlander_ is the first in a series of time travel books. There are currently four books published, with at least two more to come. Some would say that's too many. Others would say it's not enough.
Pros: incomparably well written, interesting, intriguing, long Cons: for those who do not or can not read a long book, these books are the longest there are, it seems!
I read Outlander for the first time seven years ago, after picking it up in an airport bookstore in a South American country... I was looking for the thickest book I could find to keep me occupied through what I knew would be a very long flight....
Pros: Extremely hard to put down. Very enthralling. Cons: The only down side of her books are that she sometimes gets too mired down in details and it tends to make the book drag a bit.
"Outlander" had me hooked from page one. Diana Gabaldon's accurate portrayal of Scotland at the time of the Jacobite Uprising leaves the reader feeling that they are actually there. The descriptions of the settings and of the characters are...
Pros: wonderful story, amazing descriptions Cons: not for the squeamish
The Outlander series is outstanding! There are presently four books out, as well as a companion, and two more to come. Diana Gabaldon has written a story that is exciting, enthralling, historically accurate, and, at times, humorous. From the time I...
Her husband is two centuries away, she is related to her lover's mortal enemy, and her neighbors think she's a witch. In this unforgettable novel of t...More at Barnes & Noble.com
