Summary: Over the last 35 years I have lived in my home I have started many projects with Zinsser Qt BIN Primer Sealer. This stuff seals hard to cover stains better than any other product I know. What Is It? Zinsser is a shellac based stain-killing ... read more

Pros: Works well at covering up stains, oil, and scrach marks. Cons: Smells like the dickens!
Summary: Years ago, when ever I painted a new wall, I would never use primer. I simply used two coats of quality paint. That all changed one year after having painted a bathroom in a rental house I owned. I had just finished painting the ... read more

Pros: Best product on market for covering water stains and dark colors. Cons: Hard to clean tools, so use disposable. Throw away according to directions.
Summary: I have re-habbed many homes in my time and have tried a other primers. If you want to cover stains, I strongly recommend Zinsser BIN Primer. It covers water stains and dark paints better than the others. I have not had an opportunity to use Zinsser BIN ... read more

Pros: Product performed exactly as promised Cons: None
Summary: The previous owner of our home chain-smoked in the house for 20 years. Brown oozed out of the walls even after hours and hours of scrubbing with various types of cleaners. I tried KILZ in one room. Initially, with the KILZ, the room looked great after ... read more

Pros: Dries fast, covers stains and smells, great prep for just about any surface Cons: Smells absolutely noxious, can't re-use rollers (why would you anyway?), $
Summary: We knew we had a lot of work ahead of us when we started to prepare a house to get ready to sell. I was selling my moms house and we wanted everything just right for potential buyers. One of the most obvious things we wanted to do was completely ... read more

Pros: Superior adhesion, fast drying, suppresses stains and odors. Cons: Needs know-how, proper equipment and developed skill.
Summary: I am a professional contractor. Here is what you need to know. Bin is an alcohol-based primer, which means it out-gases significantly when drying and requires very specific clean up. However, Bin adheres to nearly any previous coating with little ... read more

Pros: Sticks like glue, covers well w/roller, goes long way Cons: Paintbrushes near useless, Ammonia cleanup, can't be used over water(latex).
Summary: Bought a house, with cardboard brown ceiling from nicotine stains. Used Zinsser 1-2-3 (I'll get to B-I-N) to cover it up, it took 5 coats of Zinsser 1-2-3 before it was non-existent! I probably should've used B-I-N because nicotine has a very easy ... read more

Pros: Excellent coverage capabilities, sticks to almost anything. Cons: SMELL! Solvent clean up.
Summary: My first primer experience was with Benjamin Moore trying to paint over a royal blue color in my garage (yea, I know). Well, several coats of that garbage didnt compare to one coat of BIN. Ive done many dark colors in my house that require a g ... read more

Pros: Quick drying, uniform coverage. Cons: Pricey, hard to find, ammonia clean-up.
Summary: My wife and I are currently in the process of painting all the trim in our house. Prior to this attempt, I consulted many professional painters/paperhangers to see what the "best" primer for wood trim would be.

Pros: Dries fast & goes a long way. Conceals knots in wood. Great for MDF. Cons: It's very thin; spatters and drips are unavoidable.
Summary: I purchased this initially because I read that MDF must not be primed with a water based product. Zinsser Shellac based primer was recommended. I was a bit sticker shocked. One gallon was over $40.00! However, as I began to apply it, it became clear that

Pros: Stain blocking, deep sealing, super sandable Cons: Bad smell?? I cant smell anything...
Summary: All these reviews are correct, its a great product. But nobody seems to mention how wonderfully sandable it is. It sands down like laquer to a glass finish if you want. It soaks more deeply into the wood than latex primers. Have you ever attempted to

Pros: Comes in spray or you can brush it on; thin and easy to use. Cons: None!
Summary: How do I love this product? Let me count the ways... I have painted a metal filing cabinet with latex paint after using BIN to prime, and the paint didn't scratch in the 15 years I had it. My first project was painting a glass

Pros: Incredibly smooth finish; the primer becomes one with the existing surface Cons: a little pricey, but worth it
Summary: I love the smooth finish that this primer has. It evens out some minor imperfections in the surface, though that doesn't mean it's not important to sand and prepare surface appropriately. I often paint vintage furniture and it hides whatever surface I
