Basic but competent unit

by apowell , Nov 29 '04
Pros: Good sound for small speakers, decent volume, nice techno looks.
Cons: AM reception weak, long telescoping FM antenna, don't buy one without factory AC unit.
I bought the SC-EN5 on Ebay for an office stereo. I wanted AM, FM and CD playback with a reasonably small footprint and contemporary looks, and I got them in the SC-EN5. The unit has a silver finish with brushed aluminum cover on the face and sliding ...

Compact Unit with Clear Sound

by catchant , Jan 03 '05
Pros: clear sound, good looks, nifty CD door
Cons: no bass, poor AM/FM reception
Panasonic SC-EN5 $129.99 (CAN); ~$100.00 (US) This unit really caught my eye when I was shopping for a low-priced "micro-system". The sleek, sophisticated styling is a step above most of the rather ugly, "techno" style systems. The vertical CD door ...

Sleek, stylish and sounds great!
by lady_legolas ,Mar 11 '04
Pros: Small and sleak, value for money!
Cons: Some cds make more noise than others when spinning, remote is easily lost
I had been saving for this model for weeks and weeks, then eventually found it (to my delight) half price at argos for being ex-clearance.
For such a small product, the box it comes in is extremely long but ensures it is well protected. Putting it all together was comparitively simple, but a little fiddly at times. The tiny remote is simply astounding, and the battery is ok to insert providing you have good eyesight and a pin. The speakers are a little harder to wire up, and I had to stare at the diagram blankly for a few minutes before I got it right.
Once I got the thing up and running I was delighted by the amazingly fun motorised door, and the wonderful crisp sounds which you can choose certain modes to get different qualities. I haven't used the sleep timers or alarm yet, but I have seen I have been very satisfied with this product, and it excepts all types of CD as far as I have tried. A small fault is that the with the orange display (pretty as it is) it can be hard to read what it says from a distance.
