Let's hope this isn't his ONLY Chance! by rakasarmas ,Nov 24 '07
Pros: Paul Potts' voice...it's beautiful. Overall great selection of songs. Wonderful orchestrations! Cons: The small stuff (phrasing, commitment, flow, HEART). It lacks heart, Paul's strength.
Paul Potts was so impressive singing Nessun Dorma in his unpolished, but magnificent manner. Unfortunately, that kind of manner is not 'emotable' on a recording. This recording is nice. It has beautiful, even triumphant, moments. But overall, it was poorly produced. Paul has a long way to go in capturing an audience for an entire performance, which is exactly what an album has to do. He has a pure, innocent sound, but he has not yet found his "style", his "hook". Hopefully, for him, the people who buy this CD do it to support his career and his future. My annoyance is with the producer. Does he know anything about music at all? Here is a beautiful orchestra, amazing 1st violin, whose phrasing far surpasses Paul's. Didn't anyone notice? You can't sell humility on an album, that only happens live.
Don't get me wrong, I love Paul Potts. I love his voice. I love his potential. But he wasn't ready for this. I blame the producer, period.
