Pelican Eclipse Wireless Controller For XBOX, Very Nice!

by lllopez Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 100, Feb 15 '03
Pros: Cost, Convenience, Technology
Cons: Not Included With Game Systems yet
Background

One of the joys of having children is that you can indulge in some childhood play sessions with them, engendering a closer bond with your children, and in some cases having some genuine fun, all for yourself. Such is...

Another Disappointing Controller: Pelican Eclipse.

by yakkowarner Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, Jul 13 '04
Pros: Very durable, Cheaper alternative, wireless.
Cons: Poor signal reception, feels cheap, smaller footprint.
I spent a load of money on my first wireless controller which was by Logitech. I was very disappointed with this product and have since returned it. At the same time I bought this controller as a secondary wireless controller from my friends when they ...

Your liberation is here!

by liams_dad , May 27 '03
Pros: Range, Weight, Ergonomics
Cons: Apparently NO XBox Live-compatible (Not Verified)
Overview
I have had the XBox for about 2 months and I have quickly become an avid fan. My wife and I play a great deal, but we were becoming increasingly annoyed with the wires extending across our living room. Our seating arrangements...

When it works, it's STILL bad...

by actives , Jan 02 '04
Pros: same layout as XboX S controller
Cons: not quite the same feel as the XboX S controller, doesn't work
With few choices in terms of wireless XboX controllers, I decided to go with the Pelican Wireless Eclipse. Even though it didn't have the slots built into the controller and instead had the slots on the receiver, I liked the combination of price, the ...

Make sure you can take it back!
by daveboland ,May 30 '04
Pros: Cheap. Great distance if you can get it to work.
Cons: Often lost communication requiring a reset.
I should have checked this website for reviews before purchasing. I thought I'd save money over the Logitech model (which I saw on the shelf and had heard good reviews about for their non-Xbox wireless controllers).

This controller worked for me reliably for about 5 minutes at the most. When it did work it worked through walls and up to 60 feet or more. I could hear the menu items on the Xbox clicking or changing as I clicked up or down. Cool.

However, about 5 minutes into a game the controller and receiver would sometimes stop talking to each other. It was all random and often required a reboot of the Xbox just to get it to work again. I tried all 8 channel combinations over several hours of testing.

I think it used 2.4 GHz spectrum so I unplugged all 802.11b equipment and cordless phones, this did not help at all. I only had this for about a day before switching to a rock solid Logitech wireless controller, which for the Xbox was only seven bucks more.

Peli-crap Wireless Control!
by webslingerdude ,Apr 17 '04
Pros: excellent range, great battery life, Light weight
Cons: buttons stick.
I bought the two pack of these! I still have problems with the buttons responding. My fingers hurt now from hammering the buttons in. The range is great! I have the 2.4Ghz version that offers excellent range and function. I just have a problem with one controller working sometimes, and the other with junky button contacts. I am going to return them as soon as I can!

Junk
by vampire8u ,Apr 08 '04
Pros: makes a nice looking controller to lay around so your friends think you are cool.
Cons: It doesn't work. PERIOD.
Don't buy one of these rip offs. From day one mine never stayed working for more than a few minutes even though it all shows to be connected it just doesn't work. Changed batteries, used it 6 inches away from the receiver, tried all the channels and it just doesn't work for a long enough time to play a game. When it stops working you have to unplug the receiver piece from the xbox to get it working again. So if you want a wireless controller don't buy this, spend some more money and actually get one that works. I guess you get what you pay for and this thing was cheap and it was obviously cheaply made. This thing should be pulled from the shelves, what a joke. If you buy this you get what you deserve.

Finally a decent wireless controller
by lurkerx ,Jan 29 '04
Pros: Good signal range. White & black buttons on shoulders great idea.
Cons: No headset connection on controller. No automatic off if idle.
I decided on the silver Eclipse model since some reviews on discussion groups indicated some flaws with the previous black model. The design layout and size is the same as the wired XBOX S controller with the white and black buttons duplicated on the left and right shoulders. Battery life is claimed at 120-200 on new silver model compared to 30-50 on old black version.

It has choice of 8 channels and it did not interfere with my 802.11b LAN. I've detected good signal at 30 feet and could not test it up to the 50 feet limit without rearranging the house. Buttons need firm pressing but you get used to it quickly. Trigger buttons modulate easily. The left thumbstick felt slightly different to modulate than the XBOX S on games like SSX-Tricky, but got used to it after a few tries.

DON'T BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK!!!!
by deanswift ,Dec 12 '03
Pros: NONE!!!!
Cons: Stopped working correctly after a few days.
I bought one of these and it worked properly for about 2 days, then it started getting flaky. If it had just stopped working that would have been less frustrating than the intermittent working and then not working that it started doing. It would appear to be working, then right in the middle of a game when you need it most, it flakes out! Yes, I tried new batteries, and yes I tried it on all four of it's channels, all to no avail.

An Excellent controller
by beanscomix ,Jan 06 '04
Pros: Nice Layout, Good Range, Responsive, Good battery life, good price
Cons: Memory Card slots not located on controller
I bought this controller at EB games a few months ago and I love it. It's pretty much that same size and layout as an S-type controller, but with two extra black and white buttons located above the two triggers, and no wire, of course. I find it very responsive and that it has good battery life and range. The rumble-ing is a little weak, but I would rather have longer battery life than some slightly tingly hands anyways, so I sometimes turn the rumble off. I love this controller and would certainly recommend it to anyone who wants to "cut the cord" and would also like to keep their wallet nice and full.
