Pros: Cheap Cons: Cheap / Age Discrimination
Well, it's new. Just a week old. However, after only one visit I see the pattern. What bent me out of shape about the Glen Burnie gym was this. I went in to get my photo taken and get a tour. Sorry only one person on staff. I was told they had ...

Pros: Still have a decent amount of cardio equipment, some free weights. Cons: Cancelled all classes, cancelled the babysitting center, got rid of all the heavy weights.
Planet Fitness recently acquired the gym that I belonged to for about a year. No polices, rules, or regulations were posted, and the only thing that was printed up and set up for members to see was the notice stating that Planet Fitness had bought this ...

Pros: None at all. Cons: Poorly run, dirty, rude staff, crowded, not interested in helping anyone.
My wife and I joined Planet Fitness in Aston, PA when it opened about 4 months ago. The salesperson told us several times that the $10/month would end the next week. Well 4 months later, still $10/month and the place is so crowded it is not usable. ...

Pros: Clean, well equiped. Helpful staff. The price can't be beat. There is also no contract. Cons: If you're looking for classes, you'd be better off somewhere else.
I just joined the PF in Brockton, MA. The gym has everything you need unless you're a competitive body builder or world class athlete. There is at least two machines and sometimes four, for every exercise. The locker rooms and ...

Pros: Everything. Cons: Nothing. ;)
I love the place. The people at the front desk call me (and everyone else) by their first name. The entire staff is personable, fit, and helpful. The location I attend is the Paxton Street gym - 3460 Paxton St. Harrisburg (Paxton St), PA 17111 ...

Pros: none Cons: Poor customer service
Planet Fitness took over ownership of my old gym and that's where all my problems started!! The customer service at Planet Fitness is terrible. You can't ever reach a manager whether you are there in person or if you call. Apparently, they leave ...

Does what it Says
by tigurbaby ,Apr 25 '05
Pros: Clean, friendly management, great pricing, no contracts, plenty of equipment. Cons: Many members don't know what they're doing or aren't serious.
The whole appeal of Planet Fitness is that it is a gym for average people who don't make working out their lives. If you're serious about working out and want to be surrounded by people who are bodybuilders, this isn't the gym for you (and it never claims to be.) Their motto is that they are a judge free zone which takes the pressure off for people who want to join a gym but haven't been to one before or aren't in shape. As said, its not a pick up joint or a beauty contest, just a place to go to run on treadmills while watching T.V. The facility I've been to is well kept, clean, has over $200,000 worth of equipment so there is no waiting, and the price ($10 a month, $20 startup in my area) is phenomenal. They also included a juice bar that will make shakes with any ingredients you can think of, with scoops of any suppliments you want. Overall, great for beginners or those that are hoping to be in shape but not bodybuilders.

Disappointed in Florida with Planet Fitness
by heatherzinfl ,Jun 19 '07
Pros: Lots of treadmills, one friendly staff member. Cost. Hours. Cons: Equipment removal, staff ringing lunk alarm unnecessarily management does not care or encourage member feedback.
Planet Fitness took over World Gym in Palm Harbor, FL. At first it seemed to be a good concept, no grunting, no slamming/dropping weights, etc. Now the staff has taken things too far, just the other day, two gentlemen were laughing in the gym and the gal at the front desk sounded the "lunk alarm" at them for laughing. As one of the gentlemen was leaving, the front desk gal made a snide comment to him - end result - he cancelled his membership that day. Now they have removed the squat rack, a few other leg machines, and the bars which enabled members to do pull-ups and hanging leg raises. Reason? These pieces were "intimidating" to their target member. No judgements? Yeah right.

planet fitness white plains, ny disappointment
by gym_fanatic ,Jan 20 '05
Pros: Clean, equipment is in very good condition. Cons: Have to wait for machines, benches, no decline bench, missing a lot of necessary equipment.
This gym used to be Golds Gym when I joined several years ago. Several months ago they just changed to planet fitness. The gym now stinks. There are so many more people and so much less equipment. Everyday I went, through the course of a little over a week, some other pieces of equipment were removed. There is like 4 benches with about 10-12 people waiting to use them. There is NO DECLINE BENCH...what the hell is with that? Dumbells only go up to 70lbs. and 9/10 people there are disgusting to look at. When is used to be Golds Gym, 7/10 people looked good, it pumped you up and got you really working out. Now, you walk in and it completely unmotivational. There are a lot of people who go there who aren't serious about working out, and I'm not even a hardcore bodybuilder...just an average joe. They physically threw out bodybuilders because they said that "this isn't a gym for people like you."

Planet Rudeness Dorchester
by irishrich ,Nov 22 '06
Pros: Cheap Monthly Fees Cons: Way over Capacity, rude management
Since becoming Planet Fitness (formally Worlds Gym) They have reduced Weights and benches, increased membership Wayyy beyond capacity and hired a Manager that is a complete ignoramus. If one dares ask a question or report defective equipment. The usual response is "leave" . It seems the two owners have completely abandoned their membership base and chased after this new business model. It may work initially, But Planet Fitness is already starting to obtain a bad reputation.

We love Planet Fitness
by jsmi ,Jan 15 '07
Pros: Great atmosphere, clean, tons of machines, wonderful staff. Cons: none
I have been very happy with Planet Fitness. I was happy to hear that I was not having to pay higher prices for a lot of services that I had no use for. I never liked working out next to the "grunters."
Finally, a gym for "the rest of us." If you want to grunt, slam weights and leave your puddle of sweat on a machine for the next unfortunate soul, then go to Golds Gym."

This Planet in Columbus is Overpopulated!
by chowds ,Feb 27 '07
Pros: none Cons: Unbelievable crush of humanity
Want to work out? Run on a treadmill or use a piece of aerobics equipment? Well the Planet Fitness in Columbus OH is not for you. If you like standing in line to get a machine then head on down there and sign up.
They advertise over 70 pieces of aerobics equipment. And if you like to work out between the hours of 4-7 p.m. weekdays, about 69 of those will be taken and one will be broken. As you stand in a line 5 deep be sure to check out the staff as they continue to sign up more people.
I've worked out at this gym for over 10 years (it was a Gold's before) and at no time have I ever seen such a huge amount of people there. You literally cannot get a machine. It's unadulterated greed on the owner's part. I've started looking for a new gym. If you are considering a gym, be sure to skip this one.

Just say no!
by powerciser5454 ,Jan 30 '07
Pros: None Cons: Crowded, hot, stuffy, rude, broken equipment, dirty locker rooms.
You get nothing for your money. The cardio equipment is always taken. There is never any staff except for a senior citizen at the front desk. This is obviously an attempt to sign up as many people as possible with no intention of providing service.

I like my Planet Fitness!
by mariejessie ,Feb 03 '05
Pros: Comfortable setting, good location, lots of equipment, equipment in good shape Cons: Need to know how to use equipment, or pay a trainer; no other support.
I'm an average person who always felt insecure at those muscle head gyms. My planet fitness in Shelton, Connecticut is a decent place where I can go, do my workout, and not worry that I'm a 40-something with a few extra pounds. The facility has lots of equipment, I hardly ever wait for it, and everything is in great shape. I'm happy with the price too - especially compared with the other gyms in this area!

Orange, CT has gone DOWN !!!
by ruotols ,Sep 08 '05
Pros: $10 a month Cons: No more free weights
A great concept until they took away all the dumbbells over 80lbs and all the fixed barbells over 60lbs. They have 2 benches and no incline or decline. NO ONE is allowed to take the Olympic bars and use them for GOD FORBID curling...
The place was great when it was just plain old World Gym with a new name....
Go to Mike Katz's place in Branford... I use to be a member back in the 80's and I am going back home...!
