Terrible performance, inefficient ink, mangled configs by jmundale Pros: it can send a fax. Linux software operation
Cons: speed, consumables, printing, scanning, configuration, software. Do not believe the positive hype like I did ~ there are lots of shills for HP hyping this POS. This printer is a nightmare. I installed it on a network to service 3 clients: Windows 7, Windows XP, and ubuntu 9.1. Installation on windows 7 is fraught with errors. I managed to get a driver installed eventually, but forget the scanning software. This is after working with tech support to get the latest drivers. Software installation works on Windows XP, I wish I could say the same for the printer. Duplex printing jams every other page with multiple paper types. Multiple scan jobs require a printer power-cycle between each job. Don't be in a hurry with this POS, need about 45s per page. I had the best results for printing, faxing, scanning using the Opensource software under ubuntu, but there is no getting around the slowness, jamming, high ink consumption, and constant power cycles.

Great Printer by azepinion Pros: Prints quality documents and photos; copies and scans good
Cons: Quite large; takes up desk space; ink is expensive and runs out quickly I replaced a vintage HP deskjet printer with this Canon printer. I chose this model because I am working out of my house and do not have access to a fax or copy machine and also needed the wireless feature since I have my work and personal laptops sitting side by side and needed the ability to print from both of them.

So far, so good. No major paper jams (I used to get quite a bit from the HP printer). The quality of the documents are brilliant color (regular and photo grade paper). The only disadvantage is that there are separate color ink cartridges. These ink cartridges are small and the ink runs out fairly quickly and is expensive to replace. No local office supply stores (Office Max/Staples) can refill Canon ink cartridges. |

Poor printer by jdevine04 Pros: Scanner is good quality. Fax and copier work well.
Cons: Black ink leaks and black stripes print on back of paper almost all the time. I used this printer for printing brochures, letters and some photos. I also used the scanner, copier and fax. The scanner, copier and fax worked very well. I was satisfied with them. However the printing was a big problem.

For the first six months the printing quality was good. After six months the black ink began to leak into the yellow ink. I had to purchase yellow ink tanks freuquently because the yellow ink would turn black. After a few months that problem stopped to be replaced by thick black stripes on the back of the pages. I used alot of paper to perform roller cleaning, but the stripes came back often. The black ink stripes also used up the black ink much faster than normal. Eventually I bought a color laser printer. I would not recommend this printer. |
