Epson Perfection V500 Flatbed Scanner
So far, it's a superior choice. Allows easy film use in the digital age.

Pros: Excellent speed and image quality, good price, holds 12 negatives.
Cons: Difficult initial setup for me, odd resolution choices, small number of slides fit.
I bought this scanner to scan negatives, as I had it's predecessor (HP reviewed on here as well).  This one is so far so clearly superior that I know I should've bought it to begin with.  If you read no further, I'll go ahead and say that this ...

Hewlett Packard Scanjet G4010 Flatbed Scanner
Overtaxed by its features

Pros: Inexpensive, acceptable scan quality and speed on paper objects
Cons: Insufficient image quality for scanning negatives, awful software, unreliable

I am usually not this emotional over a scanner

Pros: Good quality scans.
One button makes PDF creation easy
Cons: Saving to JPEGs is not as easy

Plustek OpticFilm 7200 Film Scanner (35 mm)
If you're not in a rush, it works wonders

Pros: Compact. Relatively cheap for it's features. Fast scanning. 
Cons: Tricky 35mm holder. Minimalist software. Requires 3rd party software for good results.
