For years, I embraced lovable Mr. Whipple and bought Charmin. I even graduated from single to double to triple roll. The softness and strength was a plus.

The problem was, after we moved to an old house, we found that Charmin had two major drawbacks: 1)Turns out that "squeezable softness" comes with lots of puffed up fibers that fly off the roll as you spin it, leaving lots of dust throughout your black tile bathroom floor; 2)Charmin may be strong, but its structure is so bulky, that it tends to clog up easier than thinner tissue.

Well, sorry Procter & Gamble, but we've switched to Scott. Formerly about as pleasant as newspaper, Scott, since being purchased by Kimberly Clark, is stronger and smoother than before, yet still thin and dust free as it comes off the roll. And with 1000 sheets, no matter how fussy your children are, you'll be able to afford to keep the bath stocked, and make fewer visits with the plunger to clean up after them.

P.S. We have sewers, but friends with septic tanks, swear by Scott.

I came to use Scott 1000 Toilet Paper with a coupon I recieved from my grocery store for a no purchase necessary free 4-roll. My family and I after only one or two uses all agreed it was HORRIBLE. It was like an M&M (melted in your hand). The toilet paper in a port-a-potty is better that this was. I don't even see how they can market it. I am going straight to the store today and buying my normal brand Angel Soft as soon as possible. That is my opinion, 1ply I will NEVER do again

I had installed a new low-flush toilet in my home. Unfortunately my favorite paper kept clogging it. I decided to try Scott 1000 as i had two coupons for it.


It feels reasonably soft and smooth.It doesn't clog the toilet and the 1000 sheets last quite a while.

Cons: Poor quality, cheap product, overpriced when quality and size factored in.

Scotts used to be the best on the market IMO, however in the last 6 months (Jan 2009) they changed the product dramatically. The tissues appear to me to be much smaller (so price per sheet goes down if you shop by unit price and deceives you that the product is a good buy). The paper is virtually transparent and requires twice as many sheets as before. The usage per roll is thus half of what it used to be. Another example of getting less and less for your dollar. I no longer buy Scotts. I would rather pay more for a decent quality product. Other examples (1/2 gallon of ice cream is no longer 64 ounces; Hellman's quart jar is now 30 ounces).





Do the manufacturers think the US consumer is this stupid? Next Scotts will advertise this poor quality product as "New and Improved". The only improvement is profit for Scotts in the short run but they will lose marketshare and profits in the long run. Branding can work both ways. Once a product is viwed as inferior, people don't go back - case in point GM and Chrysler for anything but Jeeps and trucks.

Scott single-ply toilet paper in the 1000-sheet roll has been used in our household for more than 20 years, the package size changing with the number of family members living at home. We have always found it the best buy in terms of a roll lasting longer than most, and economical. Recently the texture of Scott toilet paper has changed. I bought a package of 20 Scott "Common Sense on a Roll" toilet paper and noticed that it seemed much more flimsy than previously and the roll did not last anywhere near as long as they used to, in fact was no better than the cheapest store brands. I wonder if, like some other products that have been around for years, Scott paper has been "improved" in a way that provides more economical manufacturing process to the detriment of product quality. We won't be using it anymore in our home.

I have been a user of Scott for as long as I can remember. My husband will use nothing else as well. I just recently bought the "new and improved" Scott. Not impressed. Yes, it is softer but it is flying off the roll. With four kids and not much storage space, I prefer the old and less improved! I will continue to be a Scott supporter but would love it if they would still make the "old" toilet paper.
