Good viewing - Constant hum
by craighenny ,Jan 02 '07
Pros: Great picture quality, fantastic viewing angle. Cons: Constant humming noise during operation. Poor warranty policy and terrible customer service.
The viewing angle on this TV is awesome, the picture quality is great and the on board speakers do an OK job in a small space.
I had one continuously lit pixel and another (apparently) dead pixel out of the box. Both of these pixels mysteriously disappeared after one month of use??
Then I noticed a low humming noise after about 3 months. The constant hum gradually became louder and far too irritating after 10 months so off to the authorised service center she went.
After two attempted repairs at the authorised service center, Sony dismissed the claim advising that they do not recognise the issue as a fault.
My authorised service center went on to say that the humming issue is common in the smaller Bravia displays but not in the larger displays, yet Sony do not recognise the issue as a fault.
Sony concluded that the constant humming noise is acceptable. The telephone consultant practically told me, "BAD LUCK!"
Don't buy a Sony.

Beautiful TV
by wh00dini ,Oct 16 '05
Pros: Picture, I love the powersave and light detection feature. Cons: All of the inputs should be in the back of the set.
Amazing picture quality and easy to setup. I have my PowerMac, DVD player, Sky box, and Xbox connected to it. My Mac looks amazing on it. Wish the resolution was higher but not at the price I paid. I went to the store with Panasonic in mind but I needed VGA input and the Sony had it.

Great TV - Hum issues below are not the TV & are easily fixed
by barb_epinion ,Jul 03 '07
Pros: Quality, value, clarity of picture - absolutely incredible! Cons: None
I too purchased the Sony Bravia - from Costco $2459 after rebate in May - now $2399 already :(
The TV has fantastic color, love the look and overall quality. It is in a room opposite a triple sliding glass door so lots of light. The picture quality is excellent.
I nearly returned the TV because of the humming noise after two months. IT IS NOT THE TV. Go to Radio Shack and purchase a Ground Loop Isolator ($16.99) and the HUM IS GONE! Use the ground loop isolator for the audio cable connection.
Love the TV !!

Very Nice! Worth the money
by digitaltechie ,Mar 26 '06
Pros: Picture quality, sound quality, features, cost benefit Cons: Remote control buttons don't have backlighting
The color is vivid and the picture is sharp even when using it without HDTV service. I like the fact that Sony didn't sacrifice on features. It still retains standard features such as timer, clock, channel labeling, and day/time auto on/off amongst other additional features. The FREEZE picture function with PIP (Picture-In-Picture) is also a nice feature. The feature allows you to freeze the picture while the PIP continues to show the moving picture.
The brightness rating is amongst the brightest in the price range. No issues with picture response time that some LCD's are known to have. No issues with handling black/dark images. The SRS TruSurround sounds great!
The quick setup's diagrammatic instructions for the various setup scenarios was concise except it excluded my case; connecting the coaxial cable directly from the audio/video coaxial connection on the television to the wall coaxial outlet without a cable box.

Humming sound
by achenor ,Jan 11 '07
Pros: Video Cons: Humming sounds
I've got the 23 inch version.
A great display, but the sound is average and the constant humming is way too loud.
A Sony representative told me that it wasn't the first time she heard about it, and that there was little they could do about it.
I suggest you try to listen to the buzzing sound before you buy it.

Looks good - sounds bad
by gotchaby ,Oct 04 '06
Pros: The picture is good. Cons: Poor sound quality.
Very poor approach to customer service.
I bought this TV because in the store the picture looked just great. We decided to get a new TV because the soccer world cup was on, and it was to go into the bedroom to enjoy the very early games.
The very first time we used it, I noticed a low-level buzzing noise. I tried to get used to it, to no avail. Contacted Sony for an authorized repair centre, who could not fix the fault and would later on not admit it existed.
To cut a long story short, 3 months of aggravation and with the noise increasingly annoying, Sony denies all responsibility for this fault. I strongly recommend you listen to your prospective purchase, and I would never NEVER recommend a Sony product to anyone.
Sony's attitude to customer problems is 'go see the retailer - it's not our problem - we can't do anything to help you - there are processes to be followed' etc etc. Unsurprisingly this brand is losing its market leadership rapidly.
