  • Superb design-- works great and built to last!

    Sep 14, 2006 by
    Rated a Very Helpful Review
Pros: Uses little water/electricity. Gently gets clothes clean. Bullet-proof design. US built, shipped factory direct.
Cons: Purchase price higher than many other machines. Not flashy.

Summary: I expect this to be the last washer I'll ever buy (and I plan to be around a long time!) It is designed like no other washer we looked at--it uses little water and gets clothes very clean while being exceptionally gentle on them. Best of all, the ... read more

  • Thumbs down to Staber

    Jun 17, 2011 by

Pros: low water and soap use
Cons: Parts very expensive, poor design, Staber staff surly, curt, unfriendly, disengaged, and uncaring.

Summary: We are a renewable energy dealer and took on this product line in Canada in 2001. We also purchased a unit for our own use so we would have direct experience with it. For a couple of years we were happy with it, it seemed to perform as ... read more

  • Staber washers fail often and are not worth the trouble

    Nov 13, 2010 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Horizontal axis machines are great. But Staber is the worst brand in this product category.
Cons: Staber does not design their washers for long-term reliability.

Summary: The bottom line is this machine is not worth the trouble, as you will find out if look anywhere on the web. It is expensive and unreliable. Even if you are handy with fixing things, why should you pay money for an unreliable product? Is that how you want ... read more

  • Staber Not worth the expense or trouble.

    Aug 16, 2010 by

Pros: Less detergent needed.  Top loading is easier on your back.
Cons: Broke just after the first year and then every six months thereafter (or less).

Summary: I had high hopes for the staber vertical axis washing machine.  However, after 3 years and multiple repairs I am getting rid of this smelly machine.  There is not enough room in this review to tell you how many problems we have had with this ... read more

  • Staber Washing Machine Experience

    Feb 12, 2009 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: We like that its made in the USA and its design. We definitely save money.
Cons: No support and having to deal with shipping and receiving.  Dealer would be nice.

Summary: We purchased our low-end model Staber in 2003 after reading all the Epinioins about the horrendous experience people were having with front loader wearing out in 18 months or less.  We had an old Whirlpool heavy duty toploader that just wore out ... read more

  • Good when it works, poor support

    Aug 8, 2008 by
    Rated a Helpful Review
Pros: Energy/water efficient, cleans and spins out water well Most working parts fairly accessible.
Cons: Iffy quality control. Poor support. Cannot find local repairmen. Very expensive.

Summary: I got my first Staber washer back in 2000 for $1,200 with plans to run it from an off the grid home. It arrived with a banged up front cover, but Staber quickly sent me a replacement. Everything was fine for a couple of years, we traveled a lot and ... read more

  • Overpriced, semi-functional. You and your clothes will stink.

Pros: Novelty item, makes you feel good to own one initially. Can be repaired by owner.
Cons: High cost, misleading sales info, matched units probably available for less $.

Summary: I have owned this horizontal washer for over a year, have seen zero savings in energy. I am on a well, so I do not know if water use is down. The Staber washing machine has already broken once, and I had to replace a circuit board myself. Have also ... read more

  • Staber washing machine

    Apr 22, 2007 by

Pros: Does everything advertised (see website-www.Staber.com) this won't let me post enough words
Cons: Had a tiny glitch-company fixed it.

Summary: I purchased my (fabulous!) RED!!! Staber washing machine after accidentally coming across this brand while doing research on energy efficient front loaders. I didn't want a front loader-too hard on my back-but wanted the energy efficiency and large ... read more

  • My Staber experience - after 2 years of ownership. Very positive.

    Jan 29, 2007 by

Pros: Cleans well. Very efficient. Very robust design, easy to owner repair. USA made.
Cons: Need to clean the tub rubber skirt with vinegar every 4 to 6 months.

Summary: I bought the Staber washer in 2003. Below is the information I wrote after owning it about 4 or 5 months. It has been very reliable, and cleans our cloths very nicely. My wife really likes it because it does a good job cleaning and is very fast, to me ... read more

  • Not a good value

    Nov 22, 2009 by
    Rated Show
Pros: Easy to work on -- very few parts and all are easily accessible.
Cons: Product breaks just outside warranty.  Replacement parts very expensive. Not a good value.

Summary: My Staber broke three years after purchase.  The replacement parts are very, very expensive (over 25% of the purchase price of the machine -- can cost you as much as $400 for parts) and they have to be backordered.  It's not worth repairing ... read more

  • Constantly needs repair... Beware!

    Jun 10, 2008 by
    Rated Show
Pros: low water usage, very little detergent required
Cons: needs constant repair, parts are expensive, very loud

Summary: We purchased a Staber two years ago and have replaced the motor twice, a pump and pulleys. Additionally, poorly designed screws came loose more than once. Since we are a family of 5, the washer does get a lot of use, but it should not require this much ... read more
