Pros: Best TV in it's price range, good feature set and great picture. Cons: No 1080p? Ha didn't buy it for 1080p, bought it because it beat its competitors.
Have only had the TV for two weeks, but will update at later intervals (3 months, 6 months, etc). Looked at a lot of TV's during my search. Magnavox, Sony, Samsung, Pioneer, anything I could find really. In the big debate of Plasma vs LCD, well the ...

Pros: Sleek design, excellent picture, very low price Cons: owners manual on CD, weird on screen menus, remote not universal
I bought this TV on Black Friday 2007 at BJ's. At $699 for a 42" LCD TV, I figured I couldn't go wrong. Wow! The picture is excellent. I have it hooked to standard cable right now, not HD, and it is hard to tell it is not receiving high def programming. ...

Pros: Great picture, easy to use onscreen menu, handy quick-start guide. Cons: The user manual is on CD Rom.
My wife and I did a lot of research on Plasma, LCD and rear projection televisions and shopped around quite a bit before deciding on the Olevia 242T. I reluctantly stood in line on Black Friday at Office Depot, where we found it on sale for $699.99(after ...

Olevia 242t 42 inch LCD
by gregorh ,Dec 03 '07
Pros: Incredible picture, great value, easy controls, fantastic audio (40 watts). Cons: Few "universal remotes" work for Olevia.
Incredible value for a supurb tv. I was astounded when I got it set up how vivid and true the picture is. I bought it on Black Friday at Office Depot (4 per store) for $699! I still don't believe the bargain. I believe you can typically get it for around $800. Do yourself a favor before you pay $1200 to $1900 for the name brands...take a look.
Hint: use the "black enhanced" feature on picture adjusting for best picture. Also, I used "native resolution" for a more real picture. It is difficult to find extra universal remotes that are programmed for Syntax Olevia. I had to throw out my old ones.Suggest "R5" Universal Remote Control. Suggest Syntax use either the Olevia or the Syntax name to simplify branding. Wish they included more cables for set-up. Also, a complete printed Owner's Manual would be helpful (they supply a dvd). I'm pleased that Consumer Reports gave it a high rating, but the brand is nearly ignored by most tv critics.
I particularly like the natural tones and the non-glare glass. Very light and easy to set-up.

Olevia (Syntax) 242-S11 42" HDTV
by jmacho ,Nov 26 '07
Pros: One of the best in price/performance Cons: Nickpicky here- user's guide on CD.
Purchased a 242 series at BJ's during Black Friday and was well worth the effort!!!!!!
Syntax offers a number of sets in the Olevia 242 series which appear to be very similar. While considered by many as an off-brand, these sets are gaining popularity due to their low price point and very good performance. I had been watching 40" LCD screens for some time and I am very pleased with the TV. Hooked it up to my Comcast cable (just basic service) and home theatre setup, and the few digital channels I get were great. (Thankfully some of the football channels were digital) Using the DVD player RGB with very good picture quality. Have no HDMI (maybe a new DVD player with HDMI upconverter next year.
The best deal I could find - $699
