Pros: Unique film-making technique, great acting and solid writing Cons: Possible too intense for some viewers
Summary: "The Rules of Attraction" is one of the best movies I've seen in years. Will it be popular? Say as popular as lesser films such as "Sweet Home Alabama" or "XXX". Probably not. The film is a gritty, frequently negative look at the life of ... read more

Pros: Avary, yo! Is'all Avary! Cons: Abhorrible characters.
Summary: Fifty years from now I'll probably be asking myself, "Do I really like Rules of Attraction?", but presently I'll settle with "yes." Let's be realistic, folks: Bret Easton Ellis'/Roger Avary's characters are pestiferous. Sean Bateman (James ... read more

Pros: Cheaper on video than a bottle Tylenol PM. Good soundtrack. Cons: Resembles Tylenol PM in a myriad of ways but doesn't get rid of a headache.
Summary: If John Waters was a boring and soulless fiend from the duller parts of hell he might have written something like this.
This movie was like a sleep deprived and depraved nightmare one has had too many times combined with a cheap wine ... read more

Pros: It's NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE with a happy ending and punk music Cons: I could've written it
Summary: I went to this movie with big hopes of really seeing something interesting. I usually love drug-related movies simply because they are pretty exciting and they show a way of life that I am not really familiar with. But I was pretty disapointed...

Pros: Lots of funny dialogue and situations, well-directed Cons: Tons of sex, violence, drug and alcohol use (if that bothers you)
Summary: In the first ten minutes of the film, Lauren (Shannyn Sossamon) gets fall-down drunk, decides to lose her virginity to an NYU film student, passes out, and is basically date-raped by some freaky-looking guy while the film student video-tapes them as the ... read more

Pros: Interesting concepts, and that Ellis appeal. Cons: Lauren wasn't what she could have been.
Summary: The Rules of Attraction is the much anticipated film adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel of the same name. A romantic thriller, it tracks the hidden desires of a small group of privileged college students, and unleashes all the dark thrills ... read more

Pros: James Van Der Beek breaks away from the nice guy role Cons: "Love" just appears without courtship
Summary: I had never really heard of Bret Easton Ellis until I saw American Psycho last year for the first time. I was a fan of the dark comedy in which a New York businessman goes around torturing and killing people as well as animals. At the time I was not ... read more

Pros: Visually inventive and stunning; brutally funny and very brave. Cons: Sometimes veers into overkill.
Summary: Those who say that The Rules of Attraction is about nothing hit the nail right on the head. But to complain about it is to miss the point entirely, for empty nothingness is the very subject of Bret Easton Ellis' novel, and Roger Avary's audacious ... read more

Summary: I looked briefly over the reviews on this page and I could not believe my eyes. Do I expect everyone to agree with me? No. But for this movie to get such a good rating across the board blew my mind. I'll address this movie in terms of its major ... read more

Pros: Great Cast, message and real to life Cons: hidden message, random violence, overall one step before great film
Summary: I had high expectations of this film, with the casting choices and hearing it was based upon a book written by the same author as American Psycho, but both me and my movie going partner were surprised that although each casting choice was excellent and ... read more

Pros: the cast, especially Ian Somerhalder and Shannyn Sossaman. James Van Der Beek in places. Cons: James Van Der Beek in places. What's up with that 4-minute long Victor section?
Summary: I had unusually high expectations for this film. I'm a fan of satirical film. I love that teaser poster. I didn't like the book. I loathe and despise Pulp Fiction, a film that grows more and more annoying, pathetic, and manipulative with each ... read more

Pros: Remarkable camera work and editing, good acting ... Cons: Very disquieting technique and story.
