A life-changing purchase

by jmalchow , Jan 06 '01
Pros: It really will change your life
Cons: It's a sin to use the words "TiVo" and "con" in the same sentence
Ok- I admit it. I'm obsessed with TV. And, by association, TiVo. You see, for me, TiVo *IS* TV. It causes me terrible pain to imagine life without TiVo. Terrible, icky pain.

As I rack my mind thinking of the bad points about...

by rsnodgrass , Apr 27 '00
Pros: Easy to use, auto-updated, good support
Cons: 9 hrs best quality is too little, no ethernet

Some thought HDTV would change the world of TV but promise that is still left unfulfilled. I would argue that personalized TV, not...

An astonishingly useful device

by cmj42 , Sep 07 '00
Pros: Flexible, adaptable, smart, and even hackable (thanks to open source)
Cons: A little slow in bringing up menus sometimes; limited storage capacity on the lower model (easily fixed with a second drive)
I must admit that the first time I ever heard of the TiVo I thought "Oh, how pointless. So you can pause live TV. Big deal." I wondered what the point was on spending all that money on a VCR that had no removable media and a decidedly...

Everything they say it is, and more...

by mrchiguy , Aug 10 '00
Pros: Pause live TV, instant replay, never miss your favorite shows
Cons: documentation could be more detailed regarding specific features
Why TiVo? I had some "spare change" and had seen a few ads for TiVo on television. I'm not a big TV watcher; there's only a few shows, such as West Wing and Sports Night, that I like to watch on a regular basis. Or so I thought until...

Couch Potato Heaven

by doc911 , Dec 14 '00
Pros: Ease of Navigation
Cons: Inferior On Demand Guide
What is Tivo?

Quite simply, it's a smart VCR that has a wealth of advantages over the more traditional units that have become commonplace fixtures in our homes. Tivo takes television to the next level, adding impressive functionality...

My savior!

by valeski , Jan 20 '01
Pros: Easy to skip commercials. High quality.
Cons: I had to return the first one which had some problems.
I have the Phillips PTV 312 w/ 30 hour capacity (at low recording quality). I only record at the highest quality and that bring the capacity down to 6 hours.

I can finally watch television again w/ this product. Television content is 50%...

Tivo: I actually watch TV now

by afranquemont , Sep 06 '00
Pros: performs exactly as described
Cons: yet another remote
We bought the TiVo for a couple of reasons. First of all, I suppose, we are geeks. We like technology, and the TiVo is a nifty gadget. Secondly, despite having digital cable, the way TV works is, all the things you might want to watch are on at the same...

TIVO: Tops in Video Options

by Howie11239 , Oct 11 '00
Pros: Super easy to use
Cons: Somewhat difficult to set up
I love my TiVo. There's no other way to say it. Imagine having a machine that rewinds without a mechanical pause. Imagine stopping a live show to go to the bathroom, then clicking a remote to end up exactly where you left off. The convenience is...

I wish the damned thing worked

by michaela20 , May 10 '00
Pros: Great technology
Cons: Terrible quality control
I really loved all 5 TIVO units that I had.

Why 5 units? Because all 5 were defective and I had to return them. I finally quit and got my money back. I will probably wait for the second-generation machines. Read on, if you are interested in my...

I'm a convert

by producer , Dec 12 '00
Pros: Easy to use, great interfaces, very adaptable to your lifestyle
Cons: Harder to channel surf, records all syndicated shows if you don't tell it otherwise
I love this new toy!

My fiance desperately wanted a Tivo after his friend bought one, and I was very against it. I really didn't think we needed yet another gadget to add to our growing pile of dvd, cd, vhs and other electronic equipment...

TiVo -- It changes the way you think about television

by evstok , Sep 26 '00
Pros: Changes the way you watch TV... Totally
Cons: Don't buy a 14hr unit
Don't make the mistake of viewing TiVo as a glorified VCR. It's anything but.

Sure, TiVo can tape a show for you when you're out, but that's not its primary purpose. Instead, TiVo is meant to keep you from watching live TV. As strange as it...

I liked it so much, I bought the company.

by david_ogren , Nov 11 '00
Pros: Will revolutionize the way you watch TV
Cons: Addictive; need to comparison shop
The following is a slightly updated review of my PTV100 review. The PT100 is essentially discontinued, having been replaced by the larger PT300 and Sony models. Other than storage capacity, the PT100 and PT300 models are identical.

About a...

This changes everything!

by edson , Jul 09 '00
Pros: It will free you from TV schedules and let you watch what you want, when you want
Cons: It's a bit pricey. Channel surfing is slow. Some features haven't been perfected yet.
Think of all the advances in TV viewing: color, remote control, cable, satellite, VCR's, DVD... TiVo will be bigger than all of these. In this review, I will discuss some of TiVo's key features, and describe my own thoughts or experiences...

Nice but $$$

by RufusPawthorne , Apr 20 '00
Pros: Read the features, it does exactly that.
Cons: Price fluctuations and getting burned.
I had been researching TIVO for almost 6 months, comparing it to Replay and other pseudo-competitors. Then on the radio, they say that Phillips is doing a LIVE demo at my local Good Guys Electronics.

So I am there on Saturday morning...

The TiVo Revolution!

by RichBoston Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Oct 27 '00
Pros: YOU are in control of your TV!
Cons: Expensive to buy plus additional fees
A month ago I had barely heard of TiVo and now after using it for a couple of days I can’t imagine not having one. Let me tell you how I ended up with a TiVo.

I was reading the following review by Peter Weisenberg (pweisenberg):
