Several years ago, I tried the motorola talk-abouts and became discouraged about "toy" 2-way radios. I returned them. Now my children are older and running all over the neighborhood. Did research on this site and went with the uniden gmr638 because of the ratings. Well, I am very impressed. Very good range as described. My kids love them and we can stay in touch. Battery life is super. Very sturdy-multiple drops. They can also take AA's. Excellent value.
