Suzuki Esteem car is far from my dream car....

by jenb123 Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 200

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 1.0 Recommended: No

Pros: Inexpensive, accommodates car seats well.
Cons: Poor ride, no trunk light, high insurance rates, tires hard to find, horrid customer service
The Bottom Line: Adequate sedan for average use but not ideal for highway driving. I would only recommend this car if you are truly unable to purchase another.

My husband bought me a new car recently. I had never seen or heard of the car he purchased and due to an unfortunate death of my hard drive, we had no access to Epinions. Hopefully, if you are considering purchasing a 2001 Suzuki Esteem, I...

2001 Suzuki Esteem - Reliable

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Good reliable car
Cons: Probably better cars out there for the price.
The Bottom Line: Good car, but make sure you wouldn't rather have a Focus, Impreza, or Sentra before buying.

I like this car, but find it hard to love as I feel my previous car; a 1993 Subaru Impreza was an all around better car. Don't get me wrong about this car - it is nice and I may feel better for it after my mourning for my Impreza (that ended when a...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power, comfort, passenger and cargo space, build quality, handling, price, expected reliability, excellent styling (wagon)
Cons: At this price, you can't ask for much more.
The Bottom Line: A small station wagon is probably the most sensible car you could buy. So naturally, there are hardly any available. For my needs, this stands out in that small group.

Based on Suzuki's reputation, I expected a nice, reliable economy car. What I got was a pocket rocket. I needed lots of room for camping gear and a couple of big dogs, and a roof rack that would hold two kayaks. I got all that, but I also got a case of...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable, good gas mileage, and reliable.
Cons: Manual transmission can be touchy and a few minor oversights.
The Bottom Line: Great wagon for family with young children on a budget or people that just need the extra room.

I bought this car over two years ago for a very nice dealer than frankly bought a car that didn't fit his dealership. Next the two year old off lease Lexus, BMW, Volvo, and a few corvettes he had a four year old suzuki wagon. It was no wonder I was able ...

Pros: very nice car all the way around
Cons: no trunk light when buying standard package car

I am a very happy owner to the suzuki esteem. I went to the dealer of interest in a used vehicle, but they sent me home in the esteem. The price for the car is perfect for a family like me, trying to start off right finanically with a brand new car. I...

Pros: affordable,roomy,stylish(wagon),economical
Cons: none so far...
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended for an entry level car, lots of room and style, has power, economical and affordable.

Looking for a car that would fit in to our standard is pretty tough because of our financial constraints. We have a baby and needed a lot of room and space. A back seat that would fit a car seat without feeling cramped. We shopped around but was always...

The only thing worse than the car is the Customer Service.

Pros: Easy to get financed. The dealer was highly motivated, anxious to sell you one.
Cons: Horrible Customer service. The finance department are downright un-professional. Poor ride. Uncomfortable seating. performance lacking.
The Bottom Line: I know the desire to own a new car is great, but, for your money(over $15,000) you could do a lot better. The service after the sale is Horrible!

This is my wifes first 'new' car. What a let down for her. The car has a 'Yugo' ride. (maybe they sold Suzuki all their left over parts?) Uncomfortable seats, armrest in door is a hard plastic, no pad. Middle armrest is situated so far towards the rear...

The Bottom Line: I recommend it because it runs great and looks nice.

I am going to write my epinion on the 2001 Suzuki Esteem. I recently bought one and it is a very nice car. It is not to expensive and I feel it is a nice family car for a small family. The 2001 Suzuki Esteem runs great and has great gas mileage. I feel...

Love my Esteem!!!

Pros: roominess, good gas milage,looks,ride-feel,gets job done well, good engine(1.6L)
Cons: hard to find some parts,no manual for this car?
here's my story:
previously owned a 1994 honda civic lx.June was coming up and so was my birthday. I had the intention of selling the Honda some time soon, when i got a little "bowed" box (from my brother and parents) with a set of "suzuki" keys inside. With this "?" look on my face i looked outside to see a 2001 esteem waiting for me..woohhoo!
T.b.h. at first i didn't really think much about this car but soon after driving it for a while i fell in love with my car. IT has the 1.6L engine and it runs quite well (better than the honda). What i love about it is it's low-end grunt that it has, and i'm pretty sure it'll handle well in our crazy winters. What i like is that the engine bay is layed out quite nicely and easy to access anything in there.OVer-all it handles well and am quite pleased with it..the body seems quite solid and has a nice simple, efficient interior.
so far so good....

It's a great little car (Wagon)

Pros: Great engine,Made in Japan, many extras, excellent gas mileage,
Cons: Spotty dealer service, wind noise at higher speeds
We bought our 2001 GLX wagon - blue over silver - brand new and couldn't be happier. This car is great on gas, powerful enough to cruise the freeways and comes with all the extras for a low,low price. Cruise control, A/C, CD player, mag wheels are all included.

The engine has many features brought over from Suzuki's motorcycle division including a self tightening timing chain that doesn't need replacing for 350,000 kilometres. WOW.

Dealer service is hit and miss so find a good reliable auto mechanic for any work on the vehicle.

We changed the tires since the Potenza originals were bad in snow but that being said, they were great in rain.

Pros: Good gas mileage, Inexpensive buying cost
Cons: Bad Customer Service, Bad Design, High Insurance Rates
I purchased this car for one reason only, price. It was cheap, only $7,000 for a one year old car. I thought I had gotten a good deal. only to have the gas tank AND fuel pump rust out in only 5 years. Needless to say, I see Hondas, and subarus driving around that are twice as old as my car, with out this problem. The dealership was unwilling to help with the costs of fixing the car which was $800, and the customer service for Suzuki is awful.
