I installed on of these in June of 05. On Sat Dec 23/07 it started leaking profusely. I went to Sears to inquire about purchasing another and to ask if my money would be refunded if Sears service found it to be covered under warrantee. I short I was told ...

We purchased a Kenmore 50 gallon water heater in June, 1994 (with the 10 year warranty). It had to be replaced in October of 1998 with the Miser 9. Two days ago water was running out of the water heater in the garage. I called the tech support hotline, and was told that the original warranty would have expired in June, 2004, thus this heater is not covered.

That in & of itself is not a problem, but when she suggested transferring me to "Sales & Service" to have another one delivered, I told her "No way!!"

In another house, we had a no-name water heater that lasted for 21 years. To have to replace TWO Kenmores in 11 years? Now, THAT'S ridiculous!!

We had one of these Kenmore Power Miser 9 water heaters replaced through warranty one month ago (not to mention that it took SEARS 1 1/2 months to SEND the heater). Three days ago the lights on the front of it indicated that the heater has 'shut itself down and locked out.' We called Sears repair center, the service man contacted us today (after having no hot water all weekend) and told me that he has NO IDEA how to fix it! He made a call to Sears and NO ONE in the whole department OR building could help the repairman or tell him what has to be done to unlock it now. So what is my next step....I have a new water heater that is in lockout and not a soul knows how to repair it!?!?!?!?!
ANYONE OUT THERE with any info on how the repairman can get this thing out of lockout...PLEASE feel free to email me!

I will never buy a Sears product ever again.I would rather pay double
for the item. If one of their items fails under warranty you have to jump through 10 hoops like a dog,spend 2-3 hours on hold and wait
7 days before they do anything and the only way I got that was to
contact the contractor Sears hires,After telling me I would be the
next job the next day first thing good lie showed up at 2;30 P.M. the
next day I wonder when they start ? Still had to call contractor the
next day 3 times to get a time. I asked for a return call with the time
I even talked to the owner , NO returned calls.

Cons: Cannot change dip tube, must instead buy new water tank. Terrible!

I agree with the previous review. This model is an energy saver and recharges quickly. BUT the trademarked Pex Roto-Swirl dip tube is NOT replaceable. Dip tube failure, according to my research, is a common problem. It results in running out of hot water quickly because the dip tube cracks and mixes cold water into the hot water at the top of the tank, rather than taking the intake cold water to the bottom of the tank where it can be heated before being used. Usually, this is a very inexpensive part. It not being replaceable means we must buy another water tank to effectively replace this part. Terrible! Was this planned obsolescence of an otherwise great hot water tank?

We have had an extremely frustrating experience purchasing a Kenmore water heater from Sears. The system between the stores, installers and home office is extremely fragmented. After we placed the order for a water heater, we spent many hours over a period of days speaking with several people attempting to have the water heater installed. All we received was one excuse after another. While I hate to be so negative, we simply never have had such a dismal experience in purchasing a product. While the people we spoke to were nice, it is apparent they need to rehaul their entire system.
