Forget tv, we're watching the laundry

by pbyaeger Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 500, Mar 20 '05
Pros: Gets clothing extra clean, quiet operation, conserves water, looks sleek, stackable
Cons: Needs special detergent, squeaks when stacked, expensive
It began with a tragedy. After less than eight years of mediocre to good service, my top of the line GE Profile top loading washing machine gave up the ghost, dying quietly with a tub full of cold, soapy water and dripping sweatpants. After I closed ...

Pros: Large Capacity Less detergent Energy and water savings clean clothes
Cons: Expensive
We bought this washer and the dryer (dryer review yet to come) March 10th, after our 6 year old top loader died. We'd got them when it was us and one child. Now, we've got 4 children. I'd been doing laundry every day for our family of 6. We started ...

A Man's Point Of View

by laundryguy60 , Oct 13 '05
Pros: Uses very little soap and water. Cleans great!
Cons: It's heavy and it can't dance.
I retired early and my wife still works so I do most of the laundry. I've had a Maytag top loader for years and even though it was dependable, it did not seem to get our clothes clean. You could forget washing anything large (like a king size ...

Impressions from a new Whirlpool owner cont'd

by peter777 , Sep 28 '05
Pros: Well-constructed, efficient, extremely quiet, nice design, faster spin means less drying time
Cons: More expensive, deeper dimension than top-loader
Our old Kenmore washer and dryer were going bad about the same time. I researched front-loaders for their better water and electricity efficiency and we had some experience with them (although smaller) in other countries. I was a bit concerned about ...

So Quiet I had to see if it was still running - it was!!!

by lawndartgoalie , Jul 20 '05
Pros: Quite, efficient, $150 rebate from local electric utility
Cons: Tall with pedestal. Deeper than the previous washer. Takes a lot of real estate.
Our old Whirlpool top loader provided reliable almost trouble free services for 19 years. It did have a habit of burning through a belts (2) smoking up the whole house in the process. Upon replacing the second belt, the repair technician said that ...

This washer's a godsend!!!

by mmonagle , Sep 02 '05
Pros: Energy efficient, large capacity, lots of cycles and options, great spin cycle, quiet during wash.
Cons: Very tall on pedestal, loud spin, expensive.
My old Whirlpool (16 years old) started to leave rust stains on our clothes. Since I have a big family, I figured it had served me well. So, I decided to buy a Kenmore Front Loading washing machine. What a heap of junk!! After six days, the thing ...

Great washer without any problems

by rubyeye20 , Aug 19 '05
Pros: super energy efficient, makes clothes super clean...
Cons: some vibration, long wash times
One thing I really love about this washer is that it is fun to watch and fun to listen to some of the noises it makes. Forexample when it enters the high spin cycle it sounds like an turbine whirring up to speed and it just sounds cool. The pluses ...

Absolutely the BEST

by gestevens , May 29 '05
Pros: Quality, workmanship, quiet, easy to operate.
Cons: None
I must preface this discussion with the fact that I am a chemical engineer - so latest, greatest technology always impresses me. And if I can also do something that helps the environment and save me money at the same time - I'm for it! The Whirlpool ...

Pros: seemed to have good repair record

Biggest waste of money ever
by mykidzmommy ,Mar 11 '09
Pros: It fits a ton of laundry in, when it works.
Cons: There is no warm rinse, only a cold rinse.
F11 error all the time now.
We researched a lot when my old washer died, since we wanted one that would have a better motor.  (We have a large family and do a lot of laundry.)  We decided on a Whirlpool front loader for it's large capacity and the sealed motor.  Well, this machine is a huge piece of junk.  In 2 years we have had not one, not two, but THREE major repairs done on the machine.  Now at 2 1/2 years we are looking to replace the machine.  Whirlpool has been worthless in helping us, since "the machine is out of warranty".

6 repairs in 17 months
by nancyfarrell ,May 11 '07
Pros: I truly can not think of anything good about this machine.
Cons: The machine has broken down 6 times in 17 months. Enough said!
This washer has been nothing but trouble. I have had it repaired 5 times and am waiting for the 6th repairman. The machine fails to complete the cycles. The error code FH keeps appearing. Parts have been replaced, no help. The last repair man who was here 6 days ago, said there maybe a loose wire because the machine vibrates. Well....all washing machinces vibrate.

Scheduling repair through Whirlpool is like pulling teeth. It takes 7-10 to get a repair person to the house.

I do NOT recommend this product! I also think Whirpool's customer service is terrible!

Whirlpool GHW9150
by kungaloosh ,Aug 24 '05
Pros: Handles king comforters and mattress pads. Uses half the laundry detergent.
Cons: Price (but still worth it).
LOVE IT! I owned a Maytag Neptune since 98, which I could not wait to dump and leave with my old house. This washer and dryer are great. Far superior to Maytag. Of course, I have only had it for 3 months but, still, the features are great, and it is quiet. I have read that second floor laundry areas get shaky, but I don't see it as a problem. My set is right next to our master bedroom, and I have been known to start a wash at 6 AM, and it is quiet. I have had no one in the household wake up to complain! The loudest noise is when the water wooshes in and the door locks and unlocks itself.

F11 problem (Whirlpool)
by hopethissave ,Jan 02 '08
Pros: Good unit
Cons: Some what noisy
I had a F-11 code problem with our Whirlpool Duet wash machine. After looking on the web it was either the control board or the door lock. The service tech warned us of a costly future for our unit. I then talked to a retired service tech and he asked if I had tried cleaning out the filter. The filter is under the door that you place the clothes in. The front panel located on the bottom of the unit needs to have 3 screws removed which are near the bottom. Once the front panel is removed there is a plastic filter fasten on the center bottom. The plastic filter has a slot that you can unscrew. When I removed ours there was coins, parts of a pens and a small screw driver. When that was cleaned out there has not been any other problems. Good luck and I hope this saves someone in the future.

Not bad... if you have realistic expectations.
by bmprok ,Oct 05 '05
Pros: Front load, stackable, reduced energy and water usage.
Cons: Takes a little common sense to operate effectively.
I have had this washer for almost 2 years. Overall, it's a good machine. I have had no technical/operational issues with this machine. I have 3 kids under 5... so I do a lot of loads in this machine and it has handled it well. A couple of things to keep in mind, though. It does NOT effectively wash oversized loads - especially not if they are heavily soiled. You have to reduce load size, pre-treat problem areas and use the extra rinse cycle for moderate to heavily soiled laundry. I have found when my laundry was not getting clean it was a detergent issue more than a machine issue. Tide HE does NOT work well... I have had much better luck with other brands. I do also have an issue with odor/mildew now and again - especially when it is hot and humid out. A little bleach and baking soda fixes the problem easily. In summary, this is a good machine - as long as you use common sense and don't expect it to work miracles.

spin cycle vibration, water in door
by unhappybuyer72 ,Jul 25 '05
Pros: Uses less water
Cons: excessive vibration during spin cycle. water left in door.
we had a whirlpool 9100 front loading washer which has been replaced by a whirlpool 9150 front loading washer because the 1st washer had excessive vibration on the spin cycle, caused the clothes to intertwine and wrinkle and caused the no iron clothes had to be ironed. some clothes were torn. The 2nd washer a whirlpool 9150 front loader has a worse vibration during the spin cycle. The 9150 had a burnt electrical odor during the first and second load so we are now returning the 2nd whirlpool to the store and they have promised to return our money. We are sorry we bought the more expensive front loader and gave up out top loading washer which was doing a great job. The front loader door has standing water in it after every load and the door has to be left open or you will have mildew in the machine. This front loader is too expensive and I do not want to iron clothes when it is not necessary.
