Professionals, stay away!

by ptiemann Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 50, May 02 '00
Pros: cheap
Cons: only 10 Mbs which they do not disclose on the package
This will be a very short epinion.
I bought this kit because I quickly wanted to get a hub and did not do any comparison shopping. Get to FRY's electronics, in there, grab something, pay and out.
They did not carry any separate hubs (which...

Reasonably priced peer-to-peer LAN kit.

by elegiac , Dec 06 '99
Pros: All components necessary for a peer-to-peer 10BaseT LAN are included, sans computers. <g>
Cons: NICs are 10/100BaseT, but hub only supports 10mbps.
Many of the currently available "network in a box" kits will exceed the needs of your average small/home office. Netgear's SB104 is a nice little 10BaseT kit from Bay Networks that won't break your budget into eensy-weensy pieces.

I'll be the first to tell you that I don't know a lot about networking but this kit makes it so easy that even someone like myself can do it! I must admit that because of my lack of knowledge, I was a little nervous about doing it by myself but with a...

by Joe_R , Jan 27 '00
Pros: Peripheral Sharing, Multi-Player Games
Cons: None
I picked up the Netgear SB104 network kit when I saw an add for it at one of our local office supply stores, the price was too good to pass up. I'd been considering networking my computer with my son's for a while and this provided the opportunity. The...

A small hub for a small network

by GreenSpleen , May 31 '00
Pros: More than you need for a home network.
Cons: Can be misleading if think you are getting a 100 BaseT hub
I recently purchaced this product at a CompUSA. So far, it works just like a hub is supposed to work. It's kind of hard to say something good or bad about any particular networking product based on brand name. Instead, you have to look at what it...

Would the Real Network Administrator Please Raise Their Hand?

by happy2000usa Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Jan 06 '00
Pros: Great Support, Reasonable Price.
Cons: Included cable is only ten feet.
Author's Note: This review is not entirely about the SB104. In fact, the "Network in a box" that I bought was from a competitor. Fortunately, I also added a Netgear ISA card for my "boat anchor." Netgear technical support saved my...

by DanCallaway , Jan 11 '00
Pros: Small, solid, and multiplies your DSL!
Cons: none.
Netgear makes great products with industrial construction, easy-read access lights and great dependability.

Now there's another reason to buy their hubs. If you're interested in DSL, or even if you have the service, you may have wondered if...

Cons: Only 10Mb/s with hub, but easy to upgrade to full 100Mb/s.

Pros: Cheap, 100% practical, excellent build quality

The DS104 hub is a standard 10MB 4 port network hub. It comes as the basic component of many of the Netgear card/hub packages and will server you well.

Currently I've used and worked with 4 of these little beauties over the past 1.5 years and...

I bought this kit about 6 months ago for $60. I'm not sure what the price is now. I'll talk about each piece at a time. The network cards are Netgear's FA310TX. These are 10/100 mbps PCI network cards. The hub has 4 ports and is 10 mbps.
