~What's that flying off my car??~

by Kieli , Sep 17 '02
Pros: ~Easy to mount one board~
Cons: ~If you have more than one board, don't even try it~
Once in a lifetime, at least, everyone has looked into their rear-view mirror and wondered if the piece of {insert litter here} was indeed from their car. No one ever wants this litter to be a $500+ surfboard flying off the roof of their vehicle. Such ...

Great for many things besides surfboards

by datkinso , Feb 19 '04
Pros: Excellent for a wide variety of long skinny loads.
Cons: None for me
I have had two pair of Strap Thangs on my rack for about 8 years now. I don't surf so I can't speak to their usefulness with surfboards but I have a tremendous amount of experience with oak and maple boards. And copper pipe, pvc pipe, shelves, ...

Faith in the Strap

by BuyOrLeave , Jan 20 '06
Pros: Easy to install; quickly connects and disconnects allowing you to get on with life.
Cons: Bothersome nylon cover.
I purchased the Yakima Strap Thang for securing a 9ft longboard to a Honda Civic coupe. At first I was skeptical that it would hold but after testing it they actually follow design. Installing the strap thang was very easy, it comes with a connector ...

Never use a $2 dollar strap to hold down expensive surfboards

by outdoorsteve , Apr 13 '03
Pros: Easy to strap down boards
Cons: everything
When you think of yakima you usually think of a good quality product. However, this was not the case with this product. My buddy and I, had both of our long boards strapped down with this product. I was kind of leery of how flimsy the rubber strapped...

Great product! Longboarders check-em out!

by jkkauai , Dec 07 '07
Pros: secure, easy to use, and no dings or crushed rails! Life time warranty!
Cons: Straps are a lot more $$ than bungee cords
I have had my strap thangs mounted on my Vw Vanagon for over 3 years( 1st year+ in So. Calif. / last 2 years in Hawaii ). My Vw Vanagon "never" gets parked under 'any' cover and is exposed to full sun and UV rays all day every day for over 3 years. I ...

Disaster on the 405
by rickreeves ,Jun 08 '09
Pros: easy to use.. yakima seems like a good co.
Cons: defective straps... dont drive in the freeway..
I was driving back from Newport to Santa Barbara with my boards  and the strap snapped and the boards were destroyed.. I'm so disgusted this even hurts to write this... I just bought a new CI quad and had my fun board as well ... Both of them got run over... Luckily  no one got hurt.
