Hondas Have Been Good Leases For Me!
Apr 02 '00
In 1994, I moved clear across country from Washington state to Florida. My Cutlas Sierra had been great to me for several years, but I wasn't about to drive 3,600 miles to test it further. So, when I got to Jacksonville, I had to figure out new wheels.
First, I looked at used cars. Then I took a look at the price of new cars. The cost of my move precluded being able to afford the latter.
I, also, didn't want to take a chance on buying a used car that might end up needing a lot of maintenance. So, I found myself in the Honda lot checking out leasing options.
Honda got me into a new 4 door Accord with reasonable lease payments. It was my first Honda and a gem! I loved it. They, also, gave me a 5 year lease, which supposedly car dealers do not like to do. The fourth year into the lease, I went back to look at the '98 models. They had "invited" me to turn it in early. My mileage was quite a bit over the limit but the car was in great shape. Maybe I was lucky, but a friend had told me that if you re-lease within the same car company, you may not have to pay the extra charges for mileage overages. I didn't. Honda didn't even bring it up.
We, also, haggled a lot over the new lease payments. I knew exactly which car I wanted---the beautiful red, two door '98 coupe. It was obvious they wanted me to lease another four door for the payments I wanted to make, but when I finally told them, I really did love the '94 and would just as well hang onto it for the next year versus trading it in for a '98 four door (which didn't seem any nicer), they agreed. I drove away with the biggest grin on my face and absolutely adore this car! By the way, I got another 5 year lease----yahoo! Honda is terrific!
