changing oil in polaris 500

I spent weeks on reveiwes on atv's and super utility(polaris ranger,John deer Gator, and kawasaki mule) for my 73 year old dad, before deciding to talk him in to the Polaris Ranger 6x6. We went and bought a new one it had 0.7 hours on it, we got it home and he drove it about an hour ,and it quit. the speed of the ranger did not add up to the reviews that i read, anyway i loaded it on my trailer and took it back to the dealer, after about a day they checked it out to find that the motor was fried. remember this machine had less than 3 hours on it.
The mechanic told me that the oil pump was not properly primed from the factory, they orderd a brand new motor from Polais next day air and installed it at no charge, witch i would'nt have accepted anything less, because it was only one day old,so then after driving it the speed was much faster like expected (an awsome machine compaired, to his 95 two wheel drive kawasaki mule.
Anyway getting back to the subject, when changing oil in any of the dry sump engines, you need to prim the oil pump, this is done by putting a pair of vise-grips on the brether tube coming off the top of the oil resivor , starting the engine ,and let run for one minite, then release the vice-grips,you will hear a sucking sound when you release them if this is done properly....that was told to me by the mechanic, luckly this was not me or my dads fault, the factory should have done this , i love this machine ,but that sort of scared me about polaris ,they need to work on their quality control , but besides that i love their machines im going to buy a 2001 sportsman in a few weeks
