Dent Wizard ReviewOct 02 '00 Write an essay on this topic.I had a dent taken out of my Audi A4 hood this morning. It took thirty minutes, cost $129. Simple, easy, no-hassle. I made an appointment with Dent Wizard. They are a national chain. I went to the one in Danvers, MA. Showed up at 8:30 AM, Walked into a nice little waiting room. Friendly serviceman introduced himself and we looked at my car. I liked it that their parking is just outside the door. He explained that to get at the dent he would have to drill a small hole in the secondary plate on the underside of the hood, but said he would patch it with black silicone. I said fine. I read People magazine for thirty minutes. (21% of Americans think Cindy Crawford has a perfect body.) The mechanic called me back to see his work. It looked perfect. He'd smoothed the dent completely and polished out the scratches in the clear coat. Looks great. I asked what tools he used and he showed me a couple twisted pieces of heavy metal wire. I expected something more high tech, but he explained that he tapped it out from underneath. He described it as being sort of like using a magic marker and making dots till an area was filled in. I don't know quite what he meant, but from looking at the tools he had, and the job he did, I think there is some serious talent and training involved. Dent Wizard is definitely the place to go if you have a minor dent that has not broken the paint. They smooth it out without harming the finish and it's much less expensive than conventional body work. They charge $129 for a "golf ball" sized ding, and $149 for a "baseball" size dent. There are some dents that they can't fix though. If a dent is in a spot that they can't get to from underneath they can't work on it. Sometimes dents on the edges of panels can't be worked on because of this. But it's well worth a visit for an estimate to see if they can do the work. So all said and done I was impressed with their attitude, skill, value, cleanliness, and especially the convenience. If only all car maintenance was so easy. |
