I purchased my GMC SIERRA Z-71 in May of 1999. I have now had it a little over a year. Here it is from the old Horse's mouth. I should call this my one year evaluation. I feel like if you have a bad product it will show within the first year.
The overall RIDE; I have driven nice cars that did not have this smooth a ride. Not soft and mushy at all but a happy medium.
The HANDLING; Handles nicely in curves and backing, I tow a trailer with about 5,000 lbs on it quite often, and it is always correct in handling.
BRAKES; The brakes are good and right there in a pinch with plenty of stopping power. I installed an electric brake box for my trailer and would recomend that to anybody pulling a tandem axle trailer, whatever brand of truck you have.
ENGINE; I have the 5300 series engine in my GMC and I have nothing bad to say about that engine at all! I'm so impressed with the performance. When I tow the trailer I use the tow/haul mode and I cannot tell that the trailer is even there. I also will invite Ford to try and come up with a 4x4 that will get 19 miles to the gallon!!!!!!!!! Thats right you heard me correctly, I am getting 19 mpg highway and 17 mpg city.
4X4 system; I Duck hunt, that should say a lot right there about the terain and muck I go through. The 4x4 system is right on target. Wonderful!Excellent! The auto 4x4 is like having all wheel drive, super nice.
Interior noise; You can tell you are driving a truck here in this department. Its not bad, but it isn't the best either.
AUDIO; Factory CD and Cassette am/fm is really nice. Who needs aftermarket stereos?
Thats my rating, I really like the truck and would buy another one.

I'd like to add, that I change the oil every 3,000 miles.
I use Mobil 1 synthetic 5w 30. Synthetic oil is worth the money!
